About us
Who we are
Arthur Rank Hospice supports people in Cambridgeshire who are living with a life-limiting illness and those who need end-of-life care. Services are provided free of charge to patients and their families, to help make every moment count.
The Hospice’s vision is to provide the highest quality care by achieving excellence in everything they do.
Care is provided at the Hospice in Cambridge, the day treatment centre in Wisbech and in patient’s own homes through the Arthur Rank Community team. Their specialist and community-based palliative care is timely, innovative and compassionate and supports patients with a life-limiting diagnosis to improve their quality of life and fulfil their choices at the end of their lives.
Alongside the support provided by the inpatient unit, day therapy services and Hospice at Home teams, patients can additionally benefit from: patient and family support (including counselling, bereavement and spiritual support); lymphoedema care; complementary therapy; medical and pain outpatient clinics; and advice from the clinical nurse specialists within the specialist palliative care home team. Programmes are practical, holistic and tailored to the individual - patient, family member or carer – and may also include rehabilitative support, physiotherapy, occupational therapy and psychological support.
Arthur Rank Hospice Charity needs to secure £7.45 million every year to deliver services free of charge to patients and their loved ones. About half of this currently comes from statutory sources with further funds raised through its Bistro, education services, conference facility and hairdressing salon. The remainder is raised thanks to the wider local community who are motivated to ensure that the work of the hospice continues: amongst other things they donate to the hospice’s shops, take part in events, take on personal challenges, hold their own fundraisers or leave a gift in their Will.
The people behind the hospice are its greatest assets, including circa 200 staff, 500 volunteers and thousands of supporters, known collectively and fondly as ‘Team Arthur’: they make Arthur Rank Hospice the vibrant, welcoming and uplifting place it is. Its volunteers are invaluable and are involved in all aspects of the Hospice; they support our Bistro team in serving freshly cooked food, help to maintain our gardens, transport patients to and from the Hospice and serve afternoon tea on our wards, we have over 45 different roles and all build on the excellent care we provide.
