About us
Who we are
Animal Concern is a predominantly Scottish-based charity dedicated to campaigning for the humane treatment of wild, farmed and domestic animals. We tackle issues of animal cruelty or exploitation - lobbying politicians to change legislation and policy to better protect our animals in law, and raising public awareness online, in the streets and in the press.
Our campaigns include:
- a ban on the release of sky lanterns and helium balloons in Scotland due to their damaging effect on animals and the natural environment;
- limiting fireworks to public, licensed displays only across the UK due to the often fatal distress caused to companion, farmed and wild animals alike, as well as several groups of vulnerable people'
- prohibiting second generation anticoagulant rodenticides from use in the Scottish countryside due to their pervasive nature which has already infected the wider food chain;
- banning the use of snares and other similarly cruel wildlife traps in Scotland;
- calling for a moratorium on the further expansion of the toxic fish farming industry in Scotland due to the catastrophic mortality rates and environmental pollution;
- jointly working with other major animal welfare groups such as OneKind, the League Against Cruel Sports, the Scottish SPCA, DogsTrust, Blue Cross, Animal Equality and others to:
- end the greyhound racing industry in Scotland,
- ban trail hunting in England and Wales,
- and campaign for better enforcement of existing animal protection laws on the UK's factory farms.
