Who we are
Street children in Kampala face challenges we would find hard to imagine. Escaping from conflict, domestic violence and extreme poverty, they find themselves vulnerable and on the streets.
Unable to attend school and outside supportive and safe family relationships, children are forced to find food shelter and income, often putting themselves at risk of exploitation, disease, physical harm and drug or alcohol abuse.
Amazing Children Uganda gives street children in Uganda the chance to free themselves from poverty and transform their lives by providing opportunities for education.
Our vision for each child entering our programme is that they will become:
Empowered to transform their own lives
Free from poverty with financial independence
Fully integrated into society and contributors within their communities
Motivated to maximise their potential throughout their lives
Our approach is simple:
We provide education scholarships into boarding schools for those who are eager for and have the capacity to engage /re-engage in school. Boarding school provides a secure and safe learning environment, encourages social integration and builds essential networks for the future.
Funding for school education is through individual sponsors who provide multi-year funding for a specific child with whom they develop a one to one relationship. These are highly motivating relationships; for the child they build self-esteem and provide encouragement, while the sponsors follow the transformational journey of their child which they find inspiring.
From general donations we provide food and shelter in the school holidays; cover medical costs; fund Holiday Programmes which include music dance and drama, sports, health and wellbeing, and work orientation.
Post school we provide scholarships for professional and vocational education, career counselling, and a mentoring programme to help them transition into the world of work.
The first students to complete Amazing Children Uganda's education programme are now all in employment and financially independent. They are on their way to a life free from poverty with the opportunity to achieve their full potential, demonstrating the success of our distinctive approach.
