About us
Who we are
Established in 1948, Age UK Suffolk is now a local partner of Age UK - the national charity formed through the merger of Age Concern England and Help the Aged. The charity is a member of the Age England Association, a federation of Age UKs. Age UK Suffolk works with and for older people in Suffolk, campaigns with them and on their behalf and is a provider of direct services and support across the county. Older people tell us what later life is about: getting involved, enjoying yourself, learning new things and receiving help when you need it. Therefore our mission is to enable older people and their family carers to •Manage the challenges that may come with ageing •Retain choice in, and control over, their lives •Enjoy later life rather than endure it. Age UK Suffolk employs around 200 staff and has over 400 volunteers in its services and activities around the county. These people work in a variety of different ways, but each makes a vital contribution. Some work in teams, for example the day centre, charity shops and offices. Others work alone for services that require visiting older people at home, such as Home Service Assistants, or providing advice from our Information and Advice Services.
