Who we are

Age UK Islington’s (AUKI) mission and purpose is to promote and assist the wellbeing of people in and around Islington. The primary beneficiaries of the charity are people over 50 living in the London Borough of Islington. AUKI supports people in a range of ways. We have a helpline, provide social prescribing and care navigation support to people who are aged 16+, who are living with long term health conditions, and a specialised service for unpaid carers. Another major focus is on reducing social isolation and loneliness. All our services are oriented towards helping people identify and head off problems before they turn into crises or become impossible to manage without intrusive and costly statutory help.

An important part of our work is bridging the gap between formal services and the range of fantastic support and activities. We listen carefully and follow through to achieve good matches that stick. The primary focus is to link clients to wider prevention and sustaining systems and means of support. This involves deeper and wider integration into and with other services. This provides efficient and earlier connections to non-clinical services, serving to assist prevention, improve client control and provide client optimism. Referrals are received from GP surgeries, professionals, individuals, and voluntary organisations.

Support offered also involves working closely with other services in the borough – GP surgeries, professionals, and voluntary organisations. We help people to put support in place so that they can better cope.

A core part of our work is to provide one to one support to people, to work with them over several weeks to enable them to resolve whatever it is that they are struggling with, or what they want to achieve, whether this is getting out of debt, coping with limited mobility, or getting back on track following a period of depression, and much more.
