About us
Who we are
We believe in the rights of all children, everywhere, and that they should be valued, protected and met by all.
We exist to make this the reality for children in northern Ghana, where more than half of all families live in poverty and 1 in 10 children die before their 5th birthday.
Now is a really exciting time to be joining AfriKids as we launch our new strategy to reach even more children across the north of Ghana. We’ve got big plans over the next three years under our three programmes: Education, Child Protection and Health.
EMPOWER CHILDREN
We are empowering children by keeping them healthy, safe and in school, teaching them about their rights and giving them a voice in decisions that affect them.
As the leaders of tomorrow, building their knowledge and confidence now means they can secure their own futures and be stronger change makers themselves when they grow up.
PUT COMMUNITIES ON THEIR FEET
We are putting communities on their feet by helping poor families to grow their income, ending harmful beliefs and educating communities to value, protect and meet the rights of all children, now and in the future.
DEMAND THAT GOVERNMENT DELIVERS
We work with the authorities and other partners to improve child protection, education and health services in northern Ghana so that they work for all children, including those most at-risk.
Our culture and values
Around half of all families in northern Ghana live in poverty and basic services like quality education and healthcare are limited.
Few people have formal jobs and most families survive by growing whatever food they can to provide for themselves.
These pressures can soon put children at risk – of life on the streets or needing to work to support their families at the cost of their education, which could help them secure their own future.
Our support - led entirely by local people - is helping families lift themselves out of poverty, empowering communities and strengthening the public and private sector to ensure that all children can be happy, healthy, safe and in school. By doing this, we are helping the next generation break the cycle of poverty for good.
Equality, diversity and inclusion policy
We are committed to being a diverse, inclusive and equitable employer; actively promoting diversity at all levels of our organisation and ensuring everyone feels included, valued and supported to fulfil their potential.
We actively encourage applications from all backgrounds and our recruitment process is designed to prevent unconscious bias, foster diversity and recognise the potential that you can bring to AfriKids, over what you have already achieved.
