Who we are

Abingdon School and Abingdon Prep School together make up the Abingdon Foundation. Abingdon School is a leading independent day and boarding school educating around 1000 boys aged 11 to 18. Abingdon Prep School is a day school for approximately 260 boys aged 4 to 13. The Abingdon Foundation employs over 300 academic and support staff across the two schools and at Tilsley Park Leisure Centre, which the Foundation manages for the School and the local community.

Both schools are academically selective achieving consistently excellent results with the vast majority of pupils moving on to leading universities with a high percentage to Oxbridge. Although strongly academic, equal emphasis is placed on the 'Other Half' or extra-curricular programme, which is the envy of most schools in the independent sector. The School has a happy, purposeful atmosphere, with intelligent, lively, unpretentious boys and talented teachers. There is no typical Abingdon boy - individualism is nurtured so it's not surprising that the impressive list of alumni includes actors, musicians, academics, politicians and sportsmen.

The schools are on separate sites with the Senior School in the centre of Abingdon just six miles south of Oxford and the Prep School a ten minute car journey away at Frilford. Both sites benefit from extensive high quality teaching facilities set in beautiful grounds. Recent developments include a stunning 21-lab Science Centre at the Senior School opened in 2015 and a multi-purpose Sports Centre opened in 2008.  In the future we are looking forward to opening, in September 2018, a new sixth form centre, library and art department.  The Foundation is well resourced with a continuing and highly ambitious refurbishment and development plan.
