As a Purchase Ledger Assistant at Claire House, you will:

• Report to the Financial Accountant.
• Be responsible for the Purchase Ledger Function, including supplier payment runs, ad hoc supplier payments, and administration of the invoice and credit card systems.
• Monitor finance email boxes to ensure prompt responses and timely query resolution.
• Support the handling and counting of donations and facilitate their handover to cash collection services.
• Assist the Finance Team with daily and monthly tasks to ensure the smooth running of the department.

We are looking for someone with:

• Experience in purchase ledger and knowledge of SAGE 50 accounts.
• Understanding of accounting principles (preferably part AAT qualified).
• Strong IT skills, including a good working knowledge of Word and Excel.
• Excellent planning and organizational abilities.
• Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to work well with individuals at all levels.
• Initiative and the ability to work independently.
• Good interpersonal skills and a commitment to Claire House’s objectives.

The role:

The principal objectives of SCCT are to provide Almshouses and make grants to support individuals and organisations within the boundaries of Sutton Coldfield.

They are a truly community-focused charity, with the origin of SCCT traced back to when Bishop Vesey of Sutton Coldfield persuaded Henry VIII to grant a Charter in 1528. Throughout a long history, SCCT has improved the lives of generations of people in Sutton Coldfield, particularly those in the greatest need. It has sustained its original core priority to alleviate suffering while redefining and extending its benefits to reflect changing times and needs.

As the Chief Executive of SCCT, you will be responsible for providing leadership, strategic direction, and effective management to drive the mission, development, and impact of the organisation. You will work closely with the Board of Trustees, employees, and local community organisations to lead SCCT in fulfilling its objectives and making a meaningful difference in the Sutton Coldfield community.

The Board is seeking a part-time Chief Executive, working three days a week with an FTE salary of £85,000-£90,000 per annum.

There are three main functions of the role: overseeing operation of SCCT’s Almshouses and significant grant-making activities; supporting management of SCCT’s investments (principally a collection of properties, and an investment portfolio), and ambassadorial leadership of the charity in the community.

The role of the Chief Executive for SCCT will be varied, with the following functions covering a healthy but not all-encompassing overview of the post:

• Working with colleagues and Trustees to oversee polices, practices and procedures to ensure the efficient and effective management of the Almshouses
• Oversee the grant funding application policies and processes whilst establishing frameworks to assess grant effectiveness and their impact on beneficiaries

• Working with the Finance Director, Grants Manager and Property Manager to oversee day-to-day operations including project implementation, financial management, administrative functions and workload
• Collaborate with the Board of Trustees, attending all Board and sub-committee meetings, providing regular updates, strategic insights, and recommendations.  Providing support to the Board of Trustees in ensuring proper governance processes are operated throughout SCCT.
• Leading on the development and implementation of the EDI strategy
• Working with the Finance Director and Board to:
  • Develop and manage SCCT’s budget and five-year forecast
  • Report on financial performance to the Board and stakeholders
  • Liaise with auditors and external auditors
  • Manage investments, oversee major transactions and manage performance of investment partners and advisors
• Identify potential risks and challenges and ensure effective systems, processes and procedures are in place for mitigation.
• Operate SCCT in a manner which delivers long-term sustainability of this historic charity.

The roots of today's charity grew from one shop, on Battersea Park Road, opened in 1992. The shop's objective was to raise funds to support the Wandsworth Oasis AIDS Care Centre. The Associate Director of Local Fundraising is a senior role within the Income, Innovation and Engagement directorate; a highly ambitious and professional team which is working to grow income and strengthen the organisation’s voice across the UK as the leading end of life care charity in the UK. Marie Curie has ambitious financial growth targets and needs to drive net contribution, engagement and awareness if they are to achieve their fundraising ambitions and subsequently their service growth goals.

What a day might look like for you:

As our Senior Scientific and Policy Officer - Animals in Entertainment & the Media, you will develop and implement a strategic plan to raise industry standards, improve legal protection, and shift public attitudes to improve the welfare of animals used in these industries.

The role is situated in the RSPCA's Wildlife Department but the scope of the work includes all animals, including companion animals, so you will work collaboratively across several departments. 

You can find a full description of what the role entails on the attached role profile but in a nutshell, we will look to you to:

• Generate and maintain RSPCA policies, strategic aims, goals and objectives relating to animals in entertainment and the media.
• Develop and implement a strategic influencing plan to improve industry standards, legal protection, and public attitudes towards animals in entertainment and the media
• Build strong relationships with stakeholders, including those in the entertainment industry, animal welfare organisations, and regulatory bodies, and represent the RSPCA in advocacy coalitions to achieve the RSPCA's goals and objectives.
• Prepare and deliver evidence-based briefing papers, policy reports, position statements, articles, and press releases.
• Work with RSPCA colleagues to ensure RSPCA standards are based on the latest scientific evidence and best practices.
• Undertake media interviews as the RSPCA's lead spokesperson on animal welfare in entertainment.
• Stay up-to-date on animal welfare science, legislation, ethics, and industry developments.

What makes a great Senior Scientific and Policy Officer - Animals in Entertainment & the Media?

To succeed within this role, it is essential that you have:

• A degree level qualification in a relevant discipline.
• Strong relationship building, negotiation and influencing skills.
• Strong stakeholder management skills.
• Proven experience of high level influencing and setting the strategic direction for advocacy on animal welfare issues.
• An ability to build and utilise networks of contacts effectively and to work in coalition with others.
• Broad knowledge of animal welfare issues and specific knowledge and experience relating to animals specific to the post. 
• Expertise in developing compelling policies, shaping agendas and working in coalition to achieve change.
• Experience of translating policy and research into change through advocacy, and a strong track record of driving policy change with national and local governments.
• Excellent research and writing skills with the ability to effectively condense, summarise and make sense of large amounts of information quickly, pulling out salient points and spotting potential weaknesses or problems. 
• You must also be aligned to our vision and values.

The post holder will ensure that our £2 million annual research spend funds the best work.  They will lead funding, governance, public and patient involvement and work closely with the Director for Research, Programmes and Impact to support strategic delivery.

The Head of Research will understand the research landscape and the processes required for research funding and governance.  They must also understand the role that the Association of Medical Research Charities (AMRC) has in supporting this.  The post holder will be a strong communicator who can build relationships at all levels, both internally and externally, and work effectively to deadlines and under pressure.
