This is an exciting time to join the Charity as it embarks on a new chapter of our strategic objectives in grant giving. The Grants Manager will be responsible for their own portfolio of grants as well as supporting the Grants Directorate with the development and execution of the Charity’s strategic objectives to maximise the benefit of the Charity’s funding.
The Grants Manager will be responsible for end-to-end grant-making; assessing applications, making recommendations and monitoring of a portfolio of grants. The grants will be broad in range from smaller, single year grants under the School Holiday Activity Fund to multi-year, large grants within the Open Grants Programme. The role holder will work closely with other members of the Grants Team, including the Directors, to support learning, develop special initiatives and contribute to the creation of policy and processes. The role will suit someone with previous grant-making experience who is seeking to develop their expertise in place-based grant-making and/or the CYP sector. Given the nature of the existing portfolio, experience of working with cultural organisations and education settings would be a particular benefit.

General Statement of Duties
The St John of Jerusalem Eye Hospital has a loyal donor base, and we are now able to grow the major donor portfolio significantly to build our long-term sustainable income. The Grants & Partnerships Officer will lead on delivering a best-practice grant-giving programme as part of a wider major donor programme.
Alongside the Executive Head of the UK Office, the Grants & Partnerships Officer will develop new major donors prospecting, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship strategies as part of a wider fundraising strategy.

Main Responsibilities

We are seeking a Head of People and Operations to join our Senior Leadership Team. This is a multifaceted role, leading the people and culture agenda along with responsibility for the smooth running of our operations, including overall office management and managing our IT provider.
Reporting directly to our Chief Operating Officer (COO), the successful candidate will be both forward thinking and focussed on long term sustainable improvements as well as hands on, developing initiatives that will improve efficiencies and ways of working throughout FNF and will have proven experience in working in an operational role within a similar sized environment.
Principle Duties and Areas of Responsibility
People and Engagement
- Work closely with the Senior Leadership Team on the development and delivery of a people plan that drives engagement and performance. This includes proactively listening, learning and acting on feedback from our people engagement survey
- Lead on all aspects of HR, including recruitment, onboarding and performance management, staff benefits, leave allowances and mandatory learning.
- Responsible for managing our employee relations provider, ensuring that their service is fit for purpose and supporting all managers within the charity
- Work with our Occupational Health outsourced service to ensure that we are providing our people with an effective occupational health solution
- Create an approach to reward and recognition that celebrates success and encourages people to go above and beyond and making a difference for FNF, fully utilising our recognition platform
- Lead on the diversity, equity and inclusion agenda, ensuring that inclusion is considered throughout the employee lifecycle
- Work with our Marketing and Communications team to drive internal communications including our newsletter and team meetings
- Champion and embed the new values and behaviours across FNF, ensuring they are reflected in HR policies, practices and employee engagement initiatives to drive a positive and inclusive workplace culture
Policy and Governance
- Ensure that the people KPIs are monitored each month, looking at any themes and trends and associated actions
- Develop and maintain people policies and processes which are fair, transparent and comply with relevant legislation promoting FNF as an employer of choice.
- Maintain all employee records in line with regulation and organisational policy ensuring that all information is up to date and relevant
- Provide transparent and clear people and workforce information to the Board along with the relevant FNF committees
- Work collaboratively with our Finance team and Pension administrator to effectively manage the FNF salary exchange pension
Health and Safety
- Ensure that health and safety standards are met across FNF, this includes the communication of health and safety policies to ensure they are understood and adhered to
- Conduct regular risk assessments across all areas of FNF including office spaces, remote working environments and any other areas where the charity operates
- Establish and maintain an effective system for reporting, managing and investigating accidents, incidents and near misses
- Work with external partners to keep up to date with changes in legislation and to conduct the annual health and safety audit and ensure that any recommendations are implemented promptly
IT
- Act as the primary point of contact between FNF and the IT provider, ensuring clear and effective communication to ensure they deliver high quality services that meet our needs
- Review and manage the IT service contract ensuring that all terms and SLAs are monitored as well as considering value for money and service experience
- Manage the budget for the IT function at FNF
- Maintain an inventory of IT assets (hardware, software licenses etc) and ensure they are properly managed and documented. This includes the procurement and disposal of IT equipment as needed.
Office Management / Administration
- Partner with managed office provider to ensure that all services are delivered as per the contract, building a strong working relationship with the building and facilities team
- Ensure that the office environment is well maintained, welcoming and conducive to productive work
- Oversee the management of office supplies, ensuring that stock levels are maintained and ordered are placed
- Implement best practices in office management, including document management, filing systems and communication protocol
- To identify areas across the charity where processes, systems and collaborative working can be made more efficient, and support the team in implementing improvements
Person Specification
Experience, Knowledge, and Skills
- Relevant professional qualifications in business administration or a related field would be desirable
- Previous experience working in a similar varied role ideally within the non-profit sector
- Demonstrable experience in reviewing and improving processes to enhance efficiency and effectiveness
- Previously managed HR activities such as recruitment, onboarding, performance management and engagement
- Experience in development and implementing policies and procedures, ensuring compliance and best practice
- Knowledge of managing relationships with vendors, including SLA’s and contract terms
- Highly organised with strong multitasking abilities, juggling different pieces of work and meeting deadlines
- Strong analytical and problem solving skills
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, interacting with people internally and externally
- Excellent analytical skills with the ability to distil and communicate information in a way that is easy to understand

About the role
We’re looking for a self-motivated and driven public health, inclusion and awareness manager. This is an exciting time to join Breast Cancer Now and the public health, inclusion and awareness team as we continue to grow as a charity and our work across the UK. Your role will continue to help drive forward our team’s work, which is to empower patients and the public to play a full role in managing their own risk of getting breast cancer, diagnosing breast cancer earlier and improving their quality of life after a breast cancer diagnosis and treatment. Thereby reducing the risk of recurrence.
You’ll be responsible for managing and expanding the development and implementation of behaviour change programmes across the UK. This includes growing our public health talk programme for external organisations and specific partners.
You’ll work closely with the associate director, public health, inclusion and awareness to deliver public health activities as identified in our strategy and team plans and work across the wider directorate and organisation.
About you
You’ll be a self-starter with proven experience of developing and delivering public health and inclusion initiatives, campaigns, behaviour change projects and programmes. This includes community based and digital interventions. You’ll have strong experience in people and volunteer management.
A confident communicator, you’ll have experience of developing and delivering training programmes or public health activities in a community setting to diverse audiences. You’ll be able to develop and maintain positive relationships at a local level with external organisations and groups including those from under-represented communities. You’ll also have experience of managing and supporting volunteers.
Highly organised, you’ll have the ability to adapt to changing circumstances. Someone who can demonstrate initiative, undertake projects independently and see projects through to completion, including both the management and evaluation of projects.

Here at Action For Humanity (AFH), we are looking for an Advocacy & Policy Manager to join us. You will join us on a full-time basis and in return you will receive a competitive annual salary of £40,000 to £45,000. This role is remote but based in London.
AFH is an NGO that provides aid and assistance to people affected by natural and man-made disasters. Our vision is a world of crises-resilient communities. AFH has taken a leadership role on advocacy for the ongoing conflict in Gaza and has a long history of being a thought leader on the humanitarian crisis in Syria. In order to help achieve this goal, AFH is recruiting an Advocacy & Policy Manager, where the successful candidate will report directly to the Director of Communications, manage and strengthen AFH’s advocacy campaigns, and develop and build networks to support our advocacy efforts. The Advocacy & Policy Manager will also be the focal point between the organisation and policymakers, in the UK and beyond.
The Advocacy & Policy Manager will advocate the humanitarian needs stemming from the crises in Gaza, Syria, Yemen and other contexts in which the organisation works. They will convey the voice from the ground, to various external audiences, and will build a presence there to promote the organisation’s work, which is rapidly evolving and is entering newer phases.
Your accountabilities as our Advocacy & Policy Manager will include the following:
Building external relations
- Lead on creating and executing an Advocacy strategy and relationship-building plan to ensure AFH is well connected and respected amongst key stakeholders including politicians, policy makers, governing bodies, other NGOs, etc. Regularly seek new opportunities to enhance external relations.
- Represent AFH in advocacy meetings, humanitarian coordination and other forums, conferences, events, and working groups, leading as many as possible.
- Build and maintain AFH’s relationships with influential people and authorities, including politicians and Governing bodies. Facilitate supporting regular and meaningful engagement with them.
- Build and maintain relationships with regional advocacy groups in and around Palestine, Syria, Yemen and other contexts.
- Position AFH as influential in public debates on Palestine, Syria, Yemen and other countries where AFH works, making AFH a resource for journalists and other key stakeholders covering related issues.
- Keep abreast of regional advocacy groups in and around Palestine, Syria, Yemen and other contexts.
Supporting internal stakeholders
- Guide and advise AFH’s head and field offices on advocacy issues and trends.
- Support our field offices with Advocacy capacity building and enhancing business development, partnerships, and institutional funding.
- Support the head office with enhancing business development, partnerships, and institutional funding, through targeted external stakeholder engagement and improving the technical branding of Action For Humanity in the eyes of potential partner institutions.
- Identify advocacy opportunities by working with the wider Communications and Marketing departments in the writing, editing, commissioning and disseminating of press-releases, op-eds, statements etc., to secure coverage of the organisation’s work across the media spectrum.
- Collaborate with the Marketing team to create interesting and engaging multimedia content to ensure the organisation’s marketing and brand strategies incorporates our advocacy position.
- Provide analysis to the CEO, Director of Communications and other stakeholders, including inputs and talking points for meetings, as required.
- Promote a principled approach to advocacy, policy and external relations among relevant internal stakeholders, and ensure that external messaging is evidence-based and driven by field realities.
General
- Closely monitor the evolving humanitarian and political context in the Middle East, Asia and Africa, particularly where AFH currently operates, and disseminate written and verbal updates and analysis in a timely manner to internal and external stakeholders.
- Produce high quality public and private policy and advocacy materials including letters, briefing notes, position papers, and advocacy reports.
- Build up AFH’s advocacy work in relation to domestic programmes.
- Promote the advocacy positions of the Syria Relief brand as well as the Action For Humanity brand.
What we are looking for in our Advocacy & Policy Manager:
Education
- Degree (or equivalent) in relevant field i.e., International Development, International Relations, Public Relations, Economics, Politics.
- Evidence of sector-specific continuous professional development.
Experience
- Strong experience and track record in an advocacy or similar role.
- Experience in building strong relations and networking with key staff within various UN agencies, especially I/NGO, Forums, UN, OCHA meetings and with local ones.
- Collaborating in multi-national organisational problem solving, operations in complex organisations.
- Active participation with I/NGO Forums desirable.
- Understanding of UK political and media landscape.
Skills & Attributes
