As the pioneering charity dedicated to childhood bereavement support in the UK, Winston’s Wish has been at the forefront of developing crucial services for grieving children. We continue to inspire and advocate for bereaved young people by prioritizing their voices and needs.
We are seeking individuals who share our innovative spirit and are passionate about improving the lives of bereaved young people to join our Board of Trustees. If you envision a world where every grieving child or young person receives the support, they need to lead full and meaningful lives, we would love to hear from you.
We are seeking to appoint a new trustee to our board. Given the focus of our work, we are especially interested in professionals with expertise in mental health, psychology, or related fields.
Weparticularly want to hear from you if you identify as:
· A person of colour (racially minoritised/racially diverse)
· Live with a disability or condition affecting daily life.
· Come from a disadvantaged background.
Applicants do not have to have lived experience of bereavement or have used the Winston’s Wish services.
Person Specification
· We have a specific gap on our board for a trustee with relevant sector experience. Given the nature of our work we are especially interested in professionals with expertise in mental health, psychology, or related fields.
· Previous governance experience in the not for profit or commercial sector is welcome but not compulsory.
· Interested individuals should be able to demonstrate an enthusiasm for the work we do, an
unwavering promise to live our values and a commitment to work collaboratively and
positively with our board and staff teams to achieve the very best outcomes for bereaved
children.
· All Trustees are appointed for an initial term of two years and are eligible to re-stand for a
subsequent term. Members normally serve for two terms to ensure a balance of
continuity and refresh.
· The Board of Trustees normally meets four times a year and in addition, Trustees are
encouraged to take on responsibility and actively participate in sub-committees, attend
events and support the staff teams as appropriate.

We are looking for a volunteer to work with residents at our supported accommodation to maintain our beautiful and spacious garden. The women we support here have experience multiple disadvantages, which can include experiencing VAWG (Violence Against Women and Girls), significant mental health support needs and/or problematic alcohol and/or substance use. We believe that spending time in nature, socialising and working together on a shared project is beneficial for mental and physical health, as well as building positive connections between residents in the house. Ella House is trauma-informed service and endeavours to give the women opportunities for personal agency over their own space.
About the role
You will work alongside our Wellbeing Group worker to support the delivery of outdoor wellbeing sessions, which will also include:
- Maintaining and improving the beauty of our outdoor garden space.
- Supporting the facilitation of gardening activities which could include planting and nurturing trees, bushes, flowers, shrubs and other greenery.
- Tasks may also include other landscaping activities such as building rockeries, shelters, etc.
- Helping to create wellbeing areas in the garden which might include herb gardens, vegetable patches or sheltered quiet spaces.
- Providing supportive encouragement, enabling residents to recognise their self-worth, gain self-confidence and improve their social skills.
- Supporting clients to learn practical skills that may lead to voluntary work or employment.
- Carrying out standard gardening maintenance
Who are we looking for?
We are looking for an enthusiastic volunteer who has a keen interest and knowledge in horticulture. The ideal volunteer will have:
- Patience, tolerance and understanding.
- The ability to relate positively and respectfully to people, with a non-judgemental attitude.
- The ability to encourage and motivate.
- The ability to share various gardening related skills.
- The ability to make the most of limited or non-existent budgets.
- Basic awareness of mental health issues and substance use.
- Self-motivated – able to carry out tasks unsupervised.
- Flexibility regarding variety of tasks associated with the role.
- An interest or understanding of working with women affected by domestic/sexual violence/mental health/substance use.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Reliable and good time management.

Volunteer Role Title: Volunteer Driver
Aim of volunteering role:
To be part of the volunteer team that enables and empowers people affected by dementia to socialise and live well. You will help to ensure people living with dementia are not isolated and able to reach their potential.
Tasks:
- To drive a mini bus to collect our day Support Clients in the morning and take them home in the afternoon.
- To support our clients to safely embark and disembark from the minibus.
- To report any maintenance or safety issues with the drive route or minibus to the Transport Coordinator.
Activities:
- To collect Day Support Clients from their own homes and bring them to our Day Support Centre.
Time:
Variable shifts Monday – Saturday 8.45 am -10.30 am or 2.30pm – 4.30pm the times are approximate according to traffic. It is preferable to do both morning and afternoon trips.

Base will be Safeharbour memory wellbeing Centre, Coldharbour Road, Northfleet, Kent, DA11 8AE
Skills required:
- The ability to drive in a safe manner

Home-Start believes that the earliest years make the biggest impact. Our work is with families who have (at least) one child under five and that are facing challenges such as loneliness, postnatal depression, or multiple births. We train volunteers to visit the family once a week, supporting them in a variety of emotional and practical ways. This is for 2 to 3 hours a week, one day per week.
By visiting a family in their own home, our volunteers represent a lifeline to families who are struggling to cope. They offer non-judgemental, confidential support in a way that is tailored to the needs of that individual family. By doing this, our volunteers support them to grow in confidence, strengthen their relationships with their children, and forge links within their local community.
Our approach works because our volunteers have parenting experience or experience with children, and they understand the stresses and strains of life. They are there to listen; not to judge.
To volunteer with Home-Start, we ask that you are a good listener, have an interest in supporting families, and are able to volunteer in the daytime for a minimum of 6 months. You should have experience with children/families, a desire to help and support others and have a 'can-do' attitude.
You might not think it, but your lived experience, your unique background, and the languages you speak, could hugely benefit the families we support. You can work alongside them to help them regain their confidence and resilience. In doing so, you can directly increase the chance of local children growing up happier and healthier.
Full training is provided (25- hour course) and an enhanced DBS check will be required.

Family Thing Dance is a small but growing charity that provides inclusive dance classes for people with learning differences and diverse abilities. We are looking for Trustees to join our Board to offer governance and support to grow the charity.
The dance base is commercial dance and hip-hop. Family Thing's mission is to provide opportunities for empowerment, support and a sense of belonging using dance as a vehicle to reach these aims.
Family Thing is passionate about providing these dance opportunities for everyone. There are many reasons why. Mencap lists the main benefits of taking part in leisure activities as improving physical and mental health, personal social skills, self-worth and confidence, and social attitudes (Mencap, 2019). Yet despite these widely understood benefits, only 16.8% of people with a learning disability take part in a sport or physical activities at least once a week, compared with 39.9% of the general population (Sport England, 2018). Additionally, there is a great deal of evidence that inactivity is a major contributing factor of ill health in people with learning disabilities. Only 9% of participants in a 2016 review met the minimum recommended guidelines for physical activity (Dairo et al, 2016).
We know that organisations like Family Thing play a role in the well-being of people with learning disabilities by providing activities that promote good physical health as well as positive psychological and social stimulation, and offers a way to overcome situations such as loneliness and anxiety. We know that a positive impact of Family Thing is the increase in social engagement and improvements in physical and mental well-being for those who participate in our classes.
Activities: Family Thing offers free or subsidised, supportive, fun and creative dance classes to diverse groups of children, young people and adults. During each session, dancers are invited to create their own ‘dance hero persona’, and have opportunities to express themselves as individuals with the support of the group. There is a focus on strengthening their sense of community through the concept of “supporting your crew”. As defined by those who attend the groups, the overall aim is to create a “big family” that’ll dance altogether basically!
What are we looking for?
At this particular time we are keen to find people with a financial services background and someone who may be willing to take on the role of Treasurer in due course and/or someone with marketing skills, including digital marketing.
Experience
- Experience of the dance community (desirable but not essential)
- An understanding of equality, diversity and inclusion and a desire to support those with learning differences and diverse abilities
- Leadership experience (desirable but not essential)
- Experience of delivering strategic organisational change (desirable but not essential)
It is not necessary to have previous board experience as training and support can be given

Who We Are: Class 13 is an education equity charity based in Brixton. Our mission is to create equitable schools where exclusions are unnecessary and teachers love their jobs. We focus on three critical challenges: improving mental health and well-being of young people, reducing exclusion rates, and increasing teacher retention. We provide comprehensive training and support to schools, promoting practices and policies that center equity and foster an inclusive environment.

Open Trustee Positions: We are expanding our board and seeking individuals with specific expertise to help us achieve our bold vision. The roles available are:

Chair of the Board:
- Lead Class 13 through its next phase of growth.
- Act as a spokesperson and champion for our mission.
- Experience in charity or nonprofit governance is essential.
- Drive change and ensure effective board performance.

Treasurer:
- Oversee financial scrutiny and lead in approving annual accounts.
- Experience in finance, accounting, and/or audit required.
- Understand the importance of core funding for Black-led organizations.

Fundraising and Partnerships Trustee:
- Shape and oversee our fundraising strategy.
- Experience in building relationships with large organizations and major donors.
- Make the case for change and expand our community of advocates.

Practice and Evaluation Trustee:
- Drive the quality of our products and services.
- Experience in academia, evaluation, learning, and/or teaching.
- Set up and chair a new Practice Advisory Committee.

Experience of Teaching:
- Bring real-world teaching experience.
- Ensure the board understands the needs of educational professionals.
- Voice of our primary participants – the teachers.
- Experience in safeguarding is essential.
Key Responsibilities:
- Ensure Class 13 carries out activities for public benefit and complies with governing documents and charity law.
- Maintain proper financial control and pursue objectives in line with our theory of change.
- Monitor and manage risks and opportunities.
- Meet duties as an employer and respect the roles of staff and volunteers.
- Commit to quarterly trustee meetings and additional ad hoc responsibilities.
