Our expert team of canine behaviourists provide behavioural support and advice to teams within Battersea, members of the public, and the rescue organisations we work with around the world. The team design and help implement behaviour modification and training plans for dogs whilst coaching members of the canine care groups through the practical day-to-day steps. They also assist with behavioural and welfare assessments of animals who come into our centres and are on hand to help manage and provide further support with dogs with more complex behavioural needs. The team provide support to dogs during their stay at Battersea, and are also available for continued advice after rehoming.

We are now looking to recruit a Canine Behaviour and Training Advisor for our team in Old Windsor. Within this role, you will work with our operational teams in the assessment and welfare of the dogs in our care and in the provision of behavioural training and advice for staff, volunteers, customers and external organisations. You will be working as part of a care group to create behaviour modification plans, support with handling difficult dogs and make recommendations, along with the individual care group, for individual dog outcomes.

Shine has a membership of over 14,000 members living with Spina Bifida and/or Hydrocephalus and associated conditions and over 6,500 associated members.

Our Little Stars project for 0–12-year-olds has been established for over 5 years supporting younger members and their families with their diagnosis and beyond. We also have a growing Teen membership known as FIRE (Friendship, Independence, Resilience, Equality) Working alongside our multi skilled, established team, you will be supporting members across all age groups and building on the great foundations already in place. 

We are looking for an Early Intervention Project Worker who can cover the South of England, primarily you will be home based, supporting members through phone calls and using online platforms.  You will be required to attend clinics, events and meet members one to one where necessary within your allocated area and occasionally across wider areas and nationally. 

Purpose of the role 

• To deliver Shine's Little Stars (funded by The National Lottery Community Fund) project for 0–12-year-olds, supporting early years and younger members with their families, their diagnosis and beyond across the Southern Region. To provide advice, support and guidance to enable people with Spina Bifida and/or Hydrocephalus to access the correct benefits to become financially stable, the right services to improve their health and well-being, and to better co-ordinate their support and independence through a variety of methods. 

• To improve the life wellbeing of children 0-12 years old with spina bifida and/or hydrocephalus by promoting independence and providing them and their families with early intervention support. 

• To create a community whereby those affected by spina bifida and hydrocephalus can connect with others, are empowered through knowledge and feel confident in the support networks surrounding them.

In the last year we have seen a 25% increase in members who are living with Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus (NPH) across England, Wales and Northern Ireland. There are currently just over 600 members with NPH, plus their carers registered, but we are expecting this to continue to rise as awareness and diagnosis of the condition grows. 

We are looking for an experienced, skilled, organised and dedicated new staff member to join Shine’s Services team to develop and lead our new NPH service.

You would be covering and supporting the shops in our Central Area, the areas range from Horfield, Gloucester Road, Keynsham, Totterdown, Whitchurch, Fishponds and more.

The details:

• Salary: £26,279 up to £28,429 FTE per annum, dependant on experience
• Hours: 37.5 hours per week, 5 days in 7
• Permanent role

Key responsibilities:

• Holding and covering the role of a Store Manager on an interim basis wherever required within our Central Area shops 
• Adapting your leadership style and approach to individual store situations and circumstances to effectively lead, coach teams and volunteers
• When supporting or covering stores, to ensure that the Hospice’s operational, health and safety, people and volunteer policies and procedures are being followed
• Delivering consistently high retail standards
• Actively supporting and demonstrating our values through your role
• Promotion of diversity and gender rights

What we are looking for:

• To be able to be flexible, pro active and to be able to adapt to ever changing needs
• Ideally, you will bring previous retail experience, gained at managerial / supervisory level
• Commercial awareness and demonstrable experience of managing a team, volunteers and delivering outstanding customer service would be equally advantageous
•  A genuine interest in fashion and charity retail
• Ability to earn trust, motivate, build rapport and provide leadership within short timescales
• High levels of organisation with a proactive approach
• Open and adaptable to change and able to support others through it
• IT literacy and numeracy skills. Using email systems and online resources; use and understand basic spreadsheets

Communications and Advocacy Manager  - Resilient Water Accelerator

Contract: 2-year Fixed-term contract, with the potential to extend, Full-time.

Location: The role can be based in the UK or USA
For the UK Location: Hybrid working, WaterAid is located at Canary Wharf, London and this will be your location and contract base. To apply for this post, you must be able to demonstrate your eligibility to work in the UK. A minimum of 40% of working time is spent face to face, either in London office, or as a result of external engagement or travel for WaterAid.
For the USA Location: WA USA and their offices.

About the Team:
The Resilient Water Accelerator (RWA), hosted by WaterAid, is global initiative that aims to:

• Address the climate impacts on water to strengthen resilience in vulnerable communities;
• Secure greater investment from public and private sources in water infrastructure and services;
• Ensure this work can be replicated and scaled to increase long term water security.

To achieve this we will work with policy makers, experts, investors and communities to identify critical climate risks to water and shape a business case for priority projects. We will work to ensure these projects act as positive examples of a new approach to programme development in the water and climate sectors. This role will play an essential part in delivering our international programme of work.

As Communication and Advocacy Manager you will play a key role in delivering our global thought leadership objectives

About the Role:
As Communication and Advocacy Manager you will  help to draw links between our work in country and the much needed action on international finance for climate resilience. You will be ready to engage strategically with influential governments and organisations to influence their policies and practices as they relate to water.

As a leader on communications you will be a critical part of the RWA’s global team — helping to link the different parts of the RWA together and co-ordinate with our partners around the world. You will ensure the team has a line of sight to the relevant policies and initiatives affecting the RWA’s work, and that there is clear, consistent and compelling messaging of the Accelerator through different communications channels. They will bring a fresh and inventive approach lead the communication of that thought leadership with key stakeholders. You will lead internal communications with WaterAid and the Steering Committee and work with colleagues across WaterAid’s network to build awareness of the Accelerator’s work. This will be vital to amplifying our messaging around global water security and climate adaptation. As this work is in its early stages, a flexible approach to the team’s work will be helpful, adjusting to changing priorities and progress on the ground.

The position will be hosted by WaterAid, which has been acting as the Accelerator’s interim host until an agreement with a long-term host has been finalized.

The successful candidate will:

• Take the lead on development and delivery of the Accelerator’s communications and advocacy strategy as a key measureable output
  • Initiate the creation of an advocacy “campaign” to ensure awareness of the RWA its objectives – drawing on our work.
  • Lead in publication materials and branding
  • Managing internal comms, online and social media engagement
• Enable impactful advocacy
  • Co-lead on strategic engagement with key institutions including national governments, multilateral banks, and UN bodies
  • Co-ordinate relevant events, communications and policy developments with partner organisations in water and climate finance
• Support Partnerships
  • Liaise regularly with key partners including Arup, Sustainable Markets Initiative, FCDO water team, CDP and others.
  • Co-ordinate external communications efforts with partners

About you:

• Ability to act on your own initiative to ensure momentum of our work is maintained
• Experience with developing internal or external communications strategies
• Experience of develop an impactful advocacy strategy
• Experience in assessing policy documents and evidence, summarising this and pulling out relevant information in an accessible way.
• Ability to produce high quality written work in English with a strong eye for detail
• Experience of organising events
• Experience of working in a public policy or campaigning organisation
• Passionate about climate adaptation and water security, and driven to make a difference in the lives of vulnerable communities
• Strong team player and willingness to be flexible to respond to changing priorities.
