A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a Director of Finance and Operations with a leading health charity, on a full-time, permanent basis. As Director of Finance and Operations, you will be responsible for all financial, human resource and other resourcing aspects of the charity. This includes strategic planning around use of all resources to achieve goals, providing financial control, organisational risk management and regulatory compliance as well as management and leadership of finance and admin teams.

Please note, there is hybrid working in place with this organisation and you would only be required to attend the office 1 day per week.

As Director of Finance and Operations, you will:

- Be responsible for planning for long term financial sustainability and growth

- Be responsible for budgeting to maximise use of financial resources towards achieving charitable objectives

- Provide financial reports and management accounts to trustees, working closely with the treasurer to ensure that information provided is sufficient and appropriate for strategic oversight

- Be responsible for strategic planning to provide best staff resource possible for delivery of charitable objectives

- Maximise use of automation for efficiency and accuracy across the organisation, ensuring systems are developed accordingly

- Manage and lead the Finance and Operations team

About the Role

Reporting to the Chief Executive and managing a small team of Finance and HR personnel, the Head of Finance & Resources position is broad in scope. The post holder will be responsible for the development and implementation of RHSU strategy relating to finance, people and culture, governance and digital infrastructure. The post holder will ensure the delivery and resourcing of operating plans, policy and operating procedures to ensure that the Union delivers its strategic objectives across its support services. Who we’re looking for

We’re looking for an experienced finance professional who is ideally at least part-qualified ACCA, CIMA or ACA. An excellent understanding of charity finance, regulation and governance is required, along with experience of senior level management and leadership in a similar sized organisation. 

Skills and experience with developing strategic plans, project/change management and leading on digital infrastructure projects would also be very useful experience to succeed in the role. Strong commercial acumen would be beneficial too -against a backdrop of constantly changing commercial considerations and wider Higher Education sector pressures.

• Raising purchase orders, processing purchase invoices & expenses & making payments.

This is an exciting opportunity for someone to help shape the strategic direction of a housing association that provides a vital service to the communities of Islington, Hackney and Waltham Forest. It is an interesting and varied role suited to someone who not only has sound forecasting skills but is also great at communicating with key stakeholders in the business who each have a part in shaping our financial plan.

You will use your knowledge and experience of forecasting to help ensure our financial plan helps shape our strategic direction to maximise the good we can do in the communities we serve.

You will work closely with senior managers and the Leadership Team.

Some of the key responsibilities of the role include:

• Lead the development of comprehensive medium and long-term financial plans, aligning them with the overall strategic plan.
• To provide professional advice on the strategic direction of the Association to Leadership Team.
• To provide insightful analysis to Leadership Team, contributing to well informed commercial decision making.
• Work collaboratively across departments to ensure that long-term financial plans are integrated with operational and strategic objectives.
• Engage in detailed analysis of potential risks and opportunities associated with long-term financial strategies and operational projects.
• To update the 30-year plan for approval by Leadership Team on a quarterly basis and for approval by Board on an annual basis.

You

We are seeking a proactive, reliable and committed individual who can deliver accurate financial plans with excellent insight and advice.

You don’t need to have worked in Housing before, but it will be an advantage if you have.

As well as being technically very competent, you will have the ability to communicate and work effectively with stakeholders. You will be very organised and professional in your approach.

You will be a proficient Excel user. Experience of using Power BI will be an advantage, but is not essential.

Our small, ambitious team works in a collaborative and supportive way. A big focus of the role is prioritisation and planning, so you’ll support the Director of Programmes, Head of Impact & Effectiveness and wider team to prioritise, forward plan, manage diaries and prepare for meetings. You will have responsibility for supporting a Trustee level grant making committee. As the Finance Administrator you will build good relationships with the wider staff team and be a friendly and knowledgeable source of advice for all queries relating to donations, credit cards, expenses and budget processes. You will support the Finance Manager with day to day tasks, such as bank reconciliation, recording transactions in QuickBooks, responding to staff queries and budget template preparation. As a key member of the team, you will be the primary user of many existing processes, and will be able to identify when and how systems need developing or updating to be more efficient.

You are passionate about helping staff to record and manage their fundraising and expenditure. You appreciate order and logical systems and processes and are skilled at using those systems and explaining them to others. What you’ll be doing

This role is an exciting opportunity to learn how finance works in a busy and ambitious trade association. You can expect a combination of regular tasks and a significant amount of variety as you get involved in different aspects of our work. 

Your day is likely to involve:

• Building relationships with our busy staff team, answering questions and helping them make use of financial information to support their work

• Providing support during audits to ensure compliance with financial regulations

• Assisting in the preparation of financial statements, reports, forecasts and budgets

• Working with the Finance Manager to find ways to reduce financial risk for the company

Qualifications and experience required for this role: Qualified by experience. You don’t need to hold a prior finance or accounting qualification to apply for this role. On-the-job training will be provided and Ukie may be willing to support training towards a qualification for a suitable candidate. 

Hours of Work:

• Monday to Friday – 9.00am to 5.30pm

• Expectation that some evening and weekend work may be required to attend events as the business requires
