The Courtauld is an internationally renowned university for art history, offering a range of degree programmes to appeal to art historians, conservators and curators. We have ambitious plans for growth with key priorities including expanding our student and visitor numbers, enhancing our estate, integrating data systems, and upgrading our IT and digital infrastructure.
Our new Director of Finance will play a lead role in developing and implementing financial management and reporting strategies to help meet our financial objectives.
Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, your key responsibilities will include;
- Developing strategy, challenging assumptions, and providing financial analysis and guidance on all activities, plans, targets, and business drivers
- Setting, monitoring, and overall delivery of the Finance Department operational plan and targets
- Leading the annual budget-setting process, providing a comprehensive business partnering service to budget holders across the organisation
- Proactively managing cash, banking activities, investments, and funding needs, ensuring that the organisation’s cash flow is accurately forecasted and properly managed
- Leading and managing the production of statutory accounts and reports for all Group companies and other returns
- Supporting and developing high-performing teams and processes
We are looking for an inspirational leader who will drive improvements to create a ‘best in class’ finance function. You will be able to demonstrate relevant experience of financial strategy, budgeting and forecasting, reporting and compliance, gained within similarly complex organisations.
You will have exceptional communication skills which will allow you to support and influence the senior leadership team on all financial matters. You will also have a keen interest in digital technology, being instrumental in the delivery of the digital transformation.

Financial Planning Analyst
Hours: 21 hours (part-time) up to 60% remote, 40% in office

This is an exciting opportunity for someone to help shape the strategic direction of a housing association that provides a vital service to the communities of Islington, Hackney and Waltham Forest. It is an interesting and varied role suited to someone who not only has sound forecasting skills but is also great at communicating with key stakeholders in the business who each have a part in shaping our financial plan.
You will use your knowledge and experience of forecasting to help ensure our financial plan helps shape our strategic direction to maximise the good we can do in the communities we serve.
You will work closely with senior managers and the Leadership Team.
Some of the key responsibilities of the role include:
- Lead the development of comprehensive medium and long-term financial plans, aligning them with the overall strategic plan.
- To provide professional advice on the strategic direction of the Association to Leadership Team.
- To provide insightful analysis to Leadership Team, contributing to well informed commercial decision making.
- Work collaboratively across departments to ensure that long-term financial plans are integrated with operational and strategic objectives.
- Engage in detailed analysis of potential risks and opportunities associated with long-term financial strategies and operational projects.
- To update the 30-year plan for approval by Leadership Team on a quarterly basis and for approval by Board on an annual basis.
You
We are seeking a proactive, reliable and committed individual who can deliver accurate financial plans with excellent insight and advice.
You don’t need to have worked in Housing before, but it will be an advantage if you have.
As well as being technically very competent, you will have the ability to communicate and work effectively with stakeholders. You will be very organised and professional in your approach.
You will be a proficient Excel user. Experience of using Power BI will be an advantage, but is not essential.

A big focus of the role is prioritisation and planning, so you’ll support the Director of Programmes, Head of Impact & Effectiveness and wider team to prioritise, forward plan, manage diaries and prepare for meetings. You will have responsibility for supporting a Trustee level grant making committee. As the Finance Administrator you will build good relationships with the wider staff team and be a friendly and knowledgeable source of advice for all queries relating to donations, credit cards, expenses and budget processes. You will support the Finance Manager with day to day tasks, such as bank reconciliation, recording transactions in QuickBooks, responding to staff queries and budget template preparation. As a key member of the team, you will be the primary user of many existing processes, and will be able to identify when and how systems need developing or updating to be more efficient.

You are passionate about helping staff to record and manage their fundraising and expenditure. You appreciate order and logical systems and processes and are skilled at using those systems and explaining them to others. What you’ll be doing
This role is an exciting opportunity to learn how finance works in a busy and ambitious trade association. You can expect a combination of regular tasks and a significant amount of variety as you get involved in different aspects of our work.
Your day is likely to involve:
• Building relationships with our busy staff team, answering questions and helping them make use of financial information to support their work

• Expectation that some evening and weekend work may be required to attend events as the business requires
