Job Description 

The Finance Manager is responsible for the management and technical support of the Finance function and acts as advisor to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and assists in the development of the organisation’s financial strategy, modelling new projects, preparing budgets and reporting on financial performance. 

You will also be responsible for maintaining accounts on Xero and all related bookkeeping tasks.

Main duties and responsibilities

• Responsibility for bookkeeping on the organisation’s accounting system (Xero);

• Preparation of accurate and timely monthly management accounts for the organisation and individual cost centres, including variance analysis and reports for the Board. This information should include a short narrative on the current position, future prospects, and financial risks and opportunities. The reports will be tailored as necessary for the Board and management; 

• Provide robust financial information including accurate balance sheets and a rolling cash flow forecast; 

• Act as key point of contact for project budget holders on financial matters;

• Carry out regular reviews of spending under various grants, alerting budget holders and CEO to any actual or potential over or underspend;

• Work with CEO and managers on fundraising bids and financial reports for funders;

• Produce statutory accounts, files and schedules, in partnership with the3million’s accounting firm; 

• Monitor records of all funding and funding sources and the appropriate allocation of incoming funding;

• Monitor monthly accrual of income and expenditure, deferral of income, maintenance of reconciliation to Xero, balance sheet changes and undertake bank reconciliations;

• Monitor the accounts mailbox and ensure invoices are included in the accounting system, answering internal and external queries as they arise;

• Act as main point of contact with banks, service providers, suppliers (when appropriate) and auditors;

• Other duties as requested by the CEO.

Person Specification

The post requires the holder to:

• Have an appropriate accounting qualification – in full or part (AAT, ICAEW, CIMA or ACCA);

• Have a minimum of three years of professional experience, including experience of operating within a not-for-profit organisation (managing accounts for restricted and unrestricted funds);

• Be proficient in Xero Online accounting software and Excel spreadsheets, including experience in using Power Query;

• Be comfortable with the financial systems typical of a small organisation, including financial monitoring and reporting to a range of different funding sources;

• Have some experience of projects finances and understand the financial implications behind an efficient delivery strategy;

• Be honest and reliable;

• Ability to work on own initiative when appropriate and seek guidance when necessary;

• Commitment to the values of a small organisation that works on social justice issues;

• In support of EU citizens in the UK;

• Have the right to work in the UK.

Role Purpose

The Head of Research and Delivery will lead the delivery of programmes, client-facing projects and research initiatives for GDI Hub CIC, working across the key themes of Disability Inclusion, Inclusive Design and Cities, Climate Change, Gender, Financial Inclusion and Assistive Technology. It is expected that the role holder will have considerable experience across at least two of these themes and an appetite for both broadening and deepening their knowledge across the others. They will also collaborate with research leads and teams based across GDI Hub including the Academic Research Centre (ARC) at UCL.

This is a senior, strategic, role responsible for team management and leading key projects, leading client, donor and government relationships, and providing strategic subject matter expertise. It would suit someone with a proven-track record in the sector and requires a strong aptitude for strategic thinking, delivery management and the creation of tenable and evidence-based recommendations. They will be creative and collaborative with a drive to make the world a fairer place, inspiring others to do the same.

They will be responsible for delivery on projects and research under their remit and contribute to the development of new projects and research, working closely with partners and clients. Current funders, partners and clients include the UK Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office, Asian Development Bank, Climate Investment Funds, UNICEF, Carbon Trust and Expo City Dubai. This will involve leading a permanent team of six, which is expected to grow to eight by Q4 2024-25, and any external consultants brought online as required to deliver across a portfolio of work.

Role Responsibilities

Project and Research Delivery and Management

• Lead a growing portfolio of projects under the Research and Delivery team including a current portfolio of circa 10 active projects.
• Leadership of Global Thematic Goods sub-programme under the AT2030 programme, with direct project leadership of 2 workstreams (inclusive infrastructure and inclusive climate resilience).
• Lead the intellectual and strategic management of project delivery, ensuring that projects deliver clear messages aligned to programme targets, client needs and project scope and deliver impact.
• Take overall responsibility for the quality and timeliness of project delivery and deliverables, ensuring project management processes and procedures are being implemented correctly and outputs are to the highest standard in line with GDI Hub style.
• Provide overall research leadership in GDI HUB CIC, instilling academic rigour and driving innovative and inclusive research, managing researchers to deliver high quality outputs that are evidence-based, meeting internal/external expectations and tailored to target audiences.

Client Management and Reporting

Support Communications and External Engagement

• Strategic leadership of external engagement across their portfolio, attending and speaking at events, conferences and project workshops as needed, to drive impact of our work.
• Provide input to communications content and the events pipeline to further raise the profile, reach and impact of GDI Hub’s work.
• Write insight reports, blogs or other content to support communications and external engagement as required.
• Highlight communication, networking and new work opportunities arising from project and client engagements.

Internal Team Management

• Manage and support the research and delivery team ensuring team members are informed, connected and working as a team, ensuring shared understanding of projects and individual delivery responsibilities.
• Work closely with the COO and Programme Management team to ensure sustainable delivery and resource management processes are followed.
• Ensure team resources are used in accordance with project budgets and actively tracked throughout delivery. Review resource capacity and factor into any new project bids or repeat business opportunities.
• Direct line management of Senior Inclusive Design Manager, Senior Financial Inclusion Researcher, Senior Social Researcher and Inclusive Climate Researcher. Support the team in their own line management responsibilities in line with planned activity.

We are looking for a fixed term Impact and Evaluation Manager to help us to develop an initial impact and evaluation framework for the organisation. Reporting to our Chief Operating Officer, the aim is to be able to understand, evaluate and learn from our impacts and to track our organisational performance through appropriate data and metrics. It will build on an existing set of metrics that have been developed and provide the foundation for a longer term impact evaluation approach.

Role purpose: 

Lead the development of an initial impact and evaluation framework that will help us to track our progress, demonstrate achievements and ensure accountability.

Your responsibilities will include: 

• Consult and work closely with staff and relevant external stakeholders to review current impact performance tracking across all organisation objectives and identify gaps in or improvements required.

• Lead the development and design of an initial impact and evaluation framework and data collection system for Rewilding Britain, including clearly defined and measurable outcomes linked to our Strategic Plan and Theory of Change. 

• Lead on the collation, analysis and communication of monitoring and evaluation data across the organisation and highlight any key trends. 

• Design a dashboard and reporting mechanisms for presenting the data in a way that is easy to use and understand.

We're looking for two proactive & passionate individuals to join our Housing Advice team to deliver an effective housing advice and advocacy service to young people accessing our day centre.

You will be working within our Housing team to deliver an effective advice service for young people. You should be experienced in delivering housing advice within a youth and community or other relevant setting, of supporting clients with multiple and complex needs, and have a proven track record of referring and progressing vulnerable people into suitable accommodation. There are two roles available.

Key details

• Contract type and hours: Permanent. The role is full-time, 35 hours per week Monday to Friday. Some work over the Christmas period will also be required.

Main tasks and responsibilities

Young people's services

Delivering a housing advice service to young people with multiple needs. This will include:

1. Working to ensure young people receive a high-quality service from the point of registration to move-on. Taking a hands-on approach to dealing with complex or difficult cases.
2. Carrying out thorough needs assessments with young people accessing the service in order to refer young people into appropriate accommodation and to external specialist services.
3. Providing young people with expert advice and guidance relating to their housing situation. Monitoring and evaluating young people’s progress.
4. Engaging other relevant external partners, able to provide accommodation and other move on opportunities to young people.
5. Referring young people to other internal New Horizon Youth Centre teams in order to support their progression, including Health, Youth Work, Outreach and Jobs, Education and Training.
6. Providing advocacy and referring young people to a wide range of specialist external advice services including around advocacy, substance misuse, mental health, immigration, counselling, financial/debt advice, and legal services.
7. Attending regular briefings, team meetings, reflective practice and clinical supervision, both with NHYC and project partners. Ensuring that Health and Safety or safeguarding issues are addressed at all times.

Sharing best practice

To proactively share best practice with internal and external stakeholders in order to maximise the impact of the work of NHYC. This will include:

1. Identifying and acting to maximise NHYC’s profile by seeking out and responding to opportunities with specialists and agencies who might offer resources, funding, or individual services relevant to client needs.
2. Promoting and representing NHYC at relevant forums, meetings and events.

Information management

To produce and maintain accurate and useful information in a range of formats in order to promote effective service delivery and evaluation. This will include:

1. Recording all contacts with clients appropriately and maintaining all relevant files and recording systems.
2. Producing written reports in a variety of formats to meet the requirements of NHYC, external service providers and funders, e.g., project reviews and assessment reports.
3. Inputting and extracting information from client monitoring systems and other accounting and database systems. Utilising other relevant software for the production of reports.
4. Being self-servicing in day-to-day administration, and following team and NHYC’s administrative procedures.

Reviewing personal and professional development needs

About the role

As CUF works towards a new strategy and refreshed mission, vision and values, fundraised income is crucial for supporting its programmes and core operations. Job Description

  Key objectives:

• To deliver an effective transition and resettlement service to young people accessing New Horizon Youth Centre, carrying out thorough needs assessments and support plans, and enabling young people to transition successfully from homelessness to independence.
• Establishing and sourcing an innovative programme of support that responds to clients’ accommodation, employment, educational, communication, independent living skills and move-on needs in order to break the cycle of homelessness.
• To maintain and build an effective and innovative network of relationships with relevant external stakeholders, partners, accommodation providers and internal specialists.

  Main tasks and responsibilities

  Young people's services

  Delivering a resettlement service to young people with multiple needs. This will include:

• Working to ensure young people receive a high-quality service from the point of registration to the move-on. Taking a hands-on approach to dealing with complex or difficult cases and ensuring the quality of support plans to create opportunities to promote independence.
• Managing a caseload of internally referred clients with additional needs as they transition out of homelessness, ensuring that the necessary support structures are in place to facilitate successful tenancy sustainment.
• Carrying out thorough needs assessments and putting in place support plans with young people accessing the resettlement programme.
• Providing expert advice and guidance on Accommodation, Welfare Benefits, Housing Benefit and Tenancy rights, Legal Services, and Employment, Education & Training. Monitoring and evaluating young people’s progress.
• Building and maintaining effective partnerships with accommodation providers and external stakeholders, in addition to cultivating and strengthening existing relationships.
• Referring young people to other internal New Horizon Youth Centre teams in order to support their progression, including Health and Jobs, Education and Training.
• Providing advocacy and referring young people to a wide range of specialist external services including around advocacy, substance misuse, mental health, immigration, counselling, financial/debt advice, and legal services.
• Attending regular briefings, team meetings, reflective practice and clinical supervision, both with NHYC and project partners. Ensuring that Health and Safety or safeguarding issues are addressed at all times.
  
  Sharing best practice

• To proactively share best practice with internal and external stakeholders in order to maximise the impact of the work of NHYC. This will include:

• Identifying and acting to maximise NHYC’s profile by seeking out and responding to opportunities with specialists and agencies who might offer resources, funding, or individual services relevant to client needs.
• Promoting and representing NHYC at relevant forums, meetings and events.

• Information management

  To produce and maintain accurate and useful information in a range of formats in order to promote effective service delivery and evaluation. This will include:

• Recording all contacts with clients appropriately and maintaining all relevant files and recording systems.
• Producing written reports in a variety of formats to meet the requirements of NHYC, external service providers and funders, e.g., project reviews and assessment reports.
• Inputting and extracting information from client monitoring systems and other accounting and database systems. Utilising other relevant software for the production of reports.
• Being self-servicing in day-to-day administration, and following team and NHYC’s administrative procedures.

• Reviewing personal and professional development needs

  To be proactive in reviewing and evaluating own performance and identifying and acting upon areas for improvement. This will include:

• Reviewing and evaluating own performance to identify strengths and areas for development. Identifying own learning/development needs and opportunities.
• Undertaking development and training opportunities and being responsible for obtaining maximum benefit through review, reflection and practice.
• Taking a proactive approach to supervision including regular line management supervision, team meetings, team reflective practice and clinical supervision.
  
  Other

• To contribute positively and constructively to the development of the team, the service and the centre. This will include:

• Covering for other members of the team where necessary.
• Following NHYC’s policies, procedures and performance expectations in all functions of the post.
• Undertaking as required any other duties compatible with the level and nature of the post and/or reasonably required by the Service Manager, Head of Services, Director of Operations or CEO.

Role & Responsibilities 

We’re proud to have recently been given funding from the National Lottery Heritage Fund to complete the next phase of our ‘Reuniting Sydenham Hill Wood & Dulwich Wood’ project. 

The project will focus on 27.4 hectares of ancient woodland habitat in the largest remining tract of the Great North Wood in South London. This natural heritage is a vital resource for the local community – the Woods saw an unprecedented 81% increase in footfall during the height of the pandemic, with visitor numbers increasing from 189,645 in 2019 to 343,385 in 2020. Only fragments of the ancient Great North Wood landscape remain; this project will help to ensure the long-term protection of the largest area of remaining Woodland. 

As Project Manager, you can expect to:

• Oversee all work, ensuring that all project work is completed on time and to budget as described in the delivery phase, holding quarterly meetings to ensure we’re on track
• liaise and further develop relationships with relevant partners and funders
• oversee procurement and management of contractors in the capital works programme for the Woods, this includes the installation footpaths, conservation fencing, boundary railings, and improved entranceways
• oversee and coordinate the Woodland Activity programme which will be delivered by the Senior Officer - Sydenham Hill Wood & Dulwich Wood & the Learning & Engagement Officer along with volunteers
• to implement a signage & interpretation strategy for Dulwich Wood to enable greater, physical and intellectual access
• liaise with the Trust’s Ecologist & manage Ecology Consultants as required. To oversee the implementation of surveys

Our ideal Project Manager

• Experience of project management including budget management and reporting to funders
• An understanding of urban wildlife conservation issues, including woodland habitat restoration and management
• Experience of managing contractors for capital works & consultants

What the job involves

We're looking for a Proposition Development Manager to join a newly created team within our Fundraising directorate. The team have been created to work alongside the high value teams (Philanthropy and Partnerships) to provide them with the highest quality donor research, funding propositions and stewardship materials required to create transformative partnerships with businesses, high net worth individuals, trusts and foundations. 

As the Proposition Development Manager, you’ll play a pivotal role in this team, supporting our ambitious high value fundraising strategy and the development of Prostate Cancer UK’s first Major Appeal. You'll take the lead in developing the Appeal case for support, and crafting funding propositions. Collaborating closely with our high-value fundraisers, you'll develop bespoke funding propositions ranging from six to seven figures, ensuring they resonate with potential donors. 

Your expertise will be central in guiding our high-value teams on creating impactful funding proposals, supported by consistent access to organisational priorities and plans. You'll also establish an 'Information Bank' of materials to support fundraising efforts. Ensuring compliance with data protection regulations, you'll maintain the integrity of our data records in alignment with GDPR and organisational policies.

What we want from you

We’re looking for a fundraiser who understands high value fundraising. You’ll have experience in building compelling cases for support, bids and partnership concepts with major donors, companies, and potentially grant funders. Working in collaboration with our high value fundraisers, Research and Support and Influencing teams to create engaging and bespoke propositions. 

You’ll be an excellent communicator, often translating complex and technical information to a range of audiences and stakeholders in multiple formats (e.g. proposals, presentations or web copy). Your exceptional relationship-building, influencing, and negotiation skills will enable you to interact effectively with stakeholders at all levels.

This is an exciting home based opportunity working with stroke survivors and their families to support them following a stroke.

Position: S11212 Stroke Association Support Coordinator (two posts)

Location: Home-based, Bury. However, frequent travel will be required as part of this role (may include team meetings or other work-related meetings).

The Role

The service aims to identify and address the needs of stroke survivors and carers across the stroke pathway, by providing a range of innovative support solutions, supporting them to meet their desired outcomes.
