Purpose
We seek to appoint an experienced Project Development Officer to manage the
Stricklandgate House 4 Sustainable Heritage Project (SGH4SH). Do you have substantial
experience in project management, heritage, community engagement and the third
sector?
We are looking for someone to lead and manage our National Lottery Heritage Fund
Project: Stricklandgate House 4 Sustainable Heritage: Where heritage meets the day-today
(SGH4SH).
Introduction
Stricklandgate House (SGH) is a Grade II listed Georgian Building, which has a fascinating,
varied history and heritage significant to Georgian Kendal. Stricklandgate House Trust (SGHT)
took over ownership of the building in 1998.
SGH operates as a centre for charitable and voluntary organisations for the area. SGH supports
and promotes the charitable and voluntary sector in the delivery of their services by providing
reasonably priced accommodation, common services, facilities, and support. SGHT also
provides counselling space and conference and meeting facilities.
SGHT are the stewards of the building and its heritage; responsible for preserving, enhancing,
and promoting the heritage of the building.
Project Overview
We have been successful with a stage one application to the National Lottery Heritage Fund to
redevelop and enhance Stricklandgate House to become a heritage and community hub in
addition to strengthening is core business of supporting the third sector.
The reimagined building will feature exhibition space for heritage and culture, a community hub
in the centre of Kendal and a strengthened Third Sector hub. It will involve the redevelopment of
a modern annex that separates the Georgian town house from the historic Coach House and
will rediscover and enhance the Georgian features of the Town house, service wing and Coach
House.
The project will deliver a programme of heritage activities in collaboration with heritage
organisations and charities and encourage heritage engagement with underserved groups.
Heritage information and interpretation will feature on site and the building will be enabled to
move to net zero. We will provide engaging information and interpretation about the way in
which we have moved to net zero to inspire others and become an example of how a building of
heritage can be manged sustainably.
The community hub will deliver community facing activities and events in collaboration with
community organisations and local councils.
The project is summarised below in terms of outcomes and objectives:
• Outcome: An accessible, rich, valued, and sustainable heritage setting that strengthens
the charitable, voluntary and community sector in Kendal and Westmorland and Furness
in the delivery of their services.
o Objective 1: The conservation and interpretation of the built and historic heritage
of SGH, growing engagement, understanding, appreciation and value within our
local communities and with visitors.
o Objective 2: Increasing the supply of attractive, fit for purpose accommodation
and meeting space, flexible and affordable in use.
o Objective 3: Create a vibrant community hub for heritage engagement and
community activities and events.
o Objective 4: Address the challenges of climate change by actively pursuing net
zero, showcasing the technology and becoming an exemplar of a heritage
building sustainably managed.

Role Purpose
To manage the Stricklandgate House 4 Sustainable Heritage Project (SGH4SH).
Principal Activities
1. Responsible for project planning and project delivery.
2. Responsible for budget management, and the production of accurate and timely financial and project delivery reports.
3. Ensure that appropriate policies and procedures are developed where necessary.
4. Ensure that finance and procurement rules are followed.
5. Supervise the Community Engagement Officer and the work of Specialist Consultants in Heritage Interpretation and Audience Development.
6. Together with the Community Engagement Officer and Project Board, lead on the production of the Activity Plan.
7. Support the Community Engagement Officer in the delivery of pilot engagement activities
8. Participate in the development of building and conservation design options
9. Develop and deliver a communications plan for the project.
10. Assist the Centre Manager in the delivery of the Fundraising Strategy
11. Develop the engagement and contribution of partner organisations with Stricklandgate House
12. Lead on the design of the monitoring and evaluation plan and ensure that appropriate data and information is collated and recorded.
13. Liaise with the design team and Clerk of Works to ensure that build design and delivery remains on schedule and within budget.

About the Role
The focus of the role is to lead Love Barton during the Charity Manager’s maternity leave, managing the existing projects detailed below, as well as working with the Trustees on fundraising.

Health & Wellbeing:
Hear4You is a listening service set up to support people in the community who are struggling emotionally. We receive referrals from our local GP surgery and people are matched with a volunteer listener for up to twelve 1-2-1 sessions.
We also run an emergency foodbank twice a week in partnership with CEF , and are in the process of setting up a pantry in partnership with Mercy in Action to support 25 struggling families with ongoing food poverty support. This will be delivered by volunteers but will need general oversight from you.
Your job would be to:

Youth:
Know Your Worth is an eight week self esteem course for teenage girls run twice a year for local young people followed by 6-12 months of mentoring. We have a small team of volunteer mentors and a trained volunteer leader who runs the course.
We are also setting up regular opportunities to gather the girls who have completed the Know Your Worth course for ongoing support.
Your job would be:

Support the Know Your Worth Leader (volunteer role) in organising and running our Know Your Worth course for teenage girls, overseeing sign ups, communications with families, safeguarding and health & safety.

Recruit, train and support volunteer mentors to ensure mentoring programme runs effectively and safely.

Develop and manage our monthly/termly sessions for those who have attended a Know Your Worth course
Flourishing Families:
In response to local need, we want to provide support for families before they reach crisis points. We do this through 1-2-1 pastoral support and the Kids Matter Parenting courses as well as hosting seasonal family events and a weekly toddler group that’s run in partnership with Barton Community Church.
Your job would be:

To provide and coordinate targeted pastoral care to individual families in need.

To organise and deliver a termly, seasonal community event ideally in partnership with other local groups and organisations

Who you are

Based within the Wiltshire Domestic Abuse Service, the IDVA team works within a multi-agency system to provide a proactive, person-centered independent service for victims of domestic abuse, empowering choice through informed decision making.
This is a temporary 6 month position, however this post is likely to be extended.
Key elements of the role include:
- Providing priority support to service users.
- Risk assessing and helping to keep service users safe through safety planning.
- Enabling victims to access statutory and other services.
- Engaging with and supporting the MARAC process, to ensure that the voice of victims is heard.
- Managing a caseload of high-risk victims and working proactively to support them and their families.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide a high-quality service to those at the highest risk.
- To provide practical and emotional support to service users, working jointly with them to carry out, implement and review needs assessments and support plans.
- To understand and work effectively within a multi-agency framework, consisting of the MARAC and local partnership responses to domestic abuse, in order to reduce the risk for service users and their families.
- Identify and assess the risks and needs of service users using an evidence-based risk identification checklist.
- Work with high-risk service users to help them access services, to keep them and their children safe.
- Advocate for high-risk service users with agencies who can help to address the domestic abuse.
- Understanding the role of all relevant statutory and non-statutory services available to service users and how your role fits into them.
- Providing information to service users in relation to legal options, housing, health and finance.
- Working directly with all key agency partners to address the safety of high risk service users and ensuring that their safety plans are coordinated particularly through the MARAC.
- Manage a case load ensuring each person receives the appropriate support, tailored to their needs.
- Support the empowerment of the service user - assisting people to recognise the features and dynamics of domestic abuse present in their situation, and help them regain control of their lives.
- Support service users to maintain existing accommodation and to advocate on their behalf, in order to access accommodation and additional support.

Our Pantry project will support and engage with individuals and families providing them with positive empowering support to address issues such as wellbeing, housing, debt, and employment. Our Help to Claim service assists people with claiming Universal Credit (UC), from advising if UC is the right benefit for them up to ensuring they receive their first correct payment. Citizens Advice Camden has been delivering the Help to Claim service since it launched five years ago.
Help to Claim is delivered by telephone, email and webchat as part of the national service. The service is available Monday to Friday 8am to 6pm. As a Help to Claim Adviser, you will contribute towards delivery of this service across all channels on a rota basis. We are based in central London and our Help to Claim team will be working a hybrid office-based/ remote model.
The role is open to qualified advisers who have recent experience in delivering advice on Universal Credit. Whilst we are keen to provide paid to train opportunities where we can, this role is not suitable for a trainee and such applications cannot be considered.
