In Shaw Trust shops, volunteers help us raise vital funds to support people in communities across the UK.
As a Volunteer Retail Supervisor, you will support your local shop in raising vital funds to help people across the UK to live independently.
In this role, you will support the manager to keep the shop open and running smoothly. By helping support your fellow volunteers, you can make a real difference to the team as well as our customers and supporters.
You will use and develop leadership skills to help the other volunteers maintain high standards, keep busy and productive, and deliver great service to our customers and supporters.
This role could include assisting with the day-to-day running of the shop such as:

Supervising and supporting other volunteers as required.

Building an inclusive and empowering environment by supporting and encouraging volunteers to learn new skills.

Opening and/or closing the shop including unlocking/locking and cashing up.

Following procedures to give refunds, void sales, and correct any errors on the till.

Taking till readings and completing checks as required.

Passing on any concerns to relevant colleagues such as Retail leadership, Health & Safety, Safeguarding, and Volunteering.

Daily banking tasks including depositing takings and getting change where required.

Sorting donations including steaming and pricing as well as training and supervising other volunteers to do this.

Making the most of our donations by encouraging donors to sign up to Gift Aid.

Serving customers at the till.

Creating stylish window displays.

Helping donors and supporters.

Keeping the shop fully stocked and tidy

Occasionally, this role may require some lone working e.g. due to staff or volunteer holiday or absence.
Your Skills and Attributes
Everyone has something to offer and we offer ongoing training and support. For this role, it would help if you already have some of these skills and attributes or are keen to learn:

Basic numeracy skills.

Have basic IT skills and confidence.

Enhanced DBS required if supervising under 18s or vulnerable adults.

Safeguarding
All colleagues, including volunteers, must be committed to the protection and safeguarding of young people and vulnerable adults.
Because this is a relatively senior position with significant responsibilities, it is not suitable for anyone under the age of 18.
Relevant Training and Policies
All volunteers are required to abide by all relevant policies, such as the Volunteer Code of Conduct, and to complete relevant training in a timely fashion. The offer to volunteer may be withdrawn if this requirement is not adequately followed.
