Job description

One YMCA have created a collection of programmes and services to inspire young people to become the best they can in mind, body, and spirit. This support takes the form of practical help, as well as providing safe spaces for young people to meet together and have fun.

Our youth work sessions are designed to help young people:

  • Belong by giving time to support our weekly youth clubs
  • Contribute through offering interest and life experience so young people can make a difference in their communities
  • Thrive by having fun and being inspired to make positive choices

The sessions take place across the region, in Watford, Hatfield and Cheshunt

Cheshunt
Mondays
4pm to 5:30pm
(Location to be disclosed once volunteering has been finalised)

Watford

Tuesdays

One YMCA Orbital Community Hub

Age 10 to 16 (19 with SEND)
6.30pm till 8pm
(Open during half term)

Hatfield
Wednesdays
Jim McDonald Centre
Age 9 to 13 - 4.30pm till 6pm
Age 13 to 16 - 6.30pm till 8pm

Thursdays 
The Hive
Age 11 to 17 - 4.30pm till 6pm 
(Term Time only)

 

SUMMARY

Supporting young people in leading activities and mentoring support by providing a listening ear and practical support and guidance.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION

You’ll find plenty of ways to use your listening skills as well as being a first point of advice for practical concerns that young people face. You might be part of a drop-in session with low-key activities like pool and table tennis that offer a safe space for young people to spend time with their peers or sports enthusiasts can lend their skills to 5-a-side football sessions or Gym Skills sessions. We’ve got opportunities for creatives, and we also offer programmes that look at specific issues, including body image, and managing anxiety.

YOU WILL HAVE:
Good communication skills
Keen interest in working with young people
Open minded and non-judgmental approach to supporting young people's journeys in making informed decisions
Ability to use own initiative and work as part of a team
Any relevant practical skills to support with activities

YOU WILL GAIN:

WE REQUIRE: 2x references and a DBS (we will apply for and fund this)
