The Directoe of Fundraising and Communiations will play a pivotal role in the delivery of the Foundation’s 2023 – 2026 Ready for Business organisational strategy and our ambition to reach one million women entrepreneurs by 2030, significantly scaling income generation and building the Foundation’s profile. As the Head of Communications, you will play a key role in amplifying UK-Med’s voice, supporting our fundraising efforts through strategic communications, and ensuring our message reaches the world’s most vulnerable people.
UK-Med has an ambitious five-year strategy (you can view it here) with a goal to generate £1 million per year from voluntary sources by 2026 to fund emergency responses and training for health staff. Our charity’s income is currently primarily statutory, and while we are relatively new to fundraising, our voluntary income has quadrupled year on year for the last three years. Earlier this year, the Board invested in the team to support the delivery of the 2021-2026 Fundraising and Communications strategy.
As Head of Communications, you will build on the promising foundations laid to deliver an exciting chapter in the charity’s development. The Role
Funding from Trusts and Foundations is critical to the sustainability of the organisation. You will play a pivotal role in ensuring sufficient funding for the sustainability of the charity and its core activities by maintaining and developing current relationships with funders as well as generating additional income to meet targets.

Hours of Work
Hours of work are 35 hours per week, 09:00 – 17:00 Monday to Friday.
Frequent travel to meet and interview beneficiaries will be required, along with a willingness to work outside normal office hours to obtain the story.
We have a friendly, supportive, and inclusive environment with a hybrid working framework involving the opportunity to work from home and in the RNRMC offices. There will be a small number of roles where employees will be required to work only from our offices, but typically most employees will be able to work remotely on average 40% of their working week. About the Team:
The Resilient Water Accelerator (RWA), hosted by WaterAid, is global initiative that aims to:
- Address the climate impacts on water to strengthen resilience in vulnerable communities;
- Secure greater investment from public and private sources in water infrastructure and services;
- Ensure this work can be replicated and scaled to increase long term water security.
To achieve this we will work with policy makers, experts, investors and communities to identify critical climate risks to water and shape a business case for priority projects. As Communication and Advocacy Manager you will help to draw links between our work in country and the much needed action on international finance for climate resilience. You will be ready to engage strategically with influential governments and organisations to influence their policies and practices as they relate to water.
As a leader on communications you will be a critical part of the RWA’s global team — helping to link the different parts of the RWA together and co-ordinate with our partners around the world. You will ensure the team has a line of sight to the relevant policies and initiatives affecting the RWA’s work, and that there is clear, consistent and compelling messaging of the Accelerator through different communications channels. They will bring a fresh and inventive approach lead the communication of that thought leadership with key stakeholders. You will lead internal communications with WaterAid and the Steering Committee and work with colleagues across WaterAid’s network to build awareness of the Accelerator’s work. This will be vital to amplifying our messaging around global water security and climate adaptation. As this work is in its early stages, a flexible approach to the team’s work will be helpful, adjusting to changing priorities and progress on the ground.
The position will be hosted by WaterAid, which has been acting as the Accelerator’s interim host until an agreement with a long-term host has been finalized.
The successful candidate will:
- Take the lead on development and delivery of the Accelerator’s communications and advocacy strategy as a key measureable output
- Initiate the creation of an advocacy “campaign” to ensure awareness of the RWA its objectives – drawing on our work.
- Lead in publication materials and branding
- Managing internal comms, online and social media engagement
- Enable impactful advocacy
- Co-lead on strategic engagement with key institutions including national governments, multilateral banks, and UN bodies
- Co-ordinate relevant events, communications and policy developments with partner organisations in water and climate finance
- Support Partnerships
- Liaise regularly with key partners including Arup, Sustainable Markets Initiative, FCDO water team, CDP and others.
- Co-ordinate external communications efforts with partners
About you:
- Ability to act on your own initiative to ensure momentum of our work is maintained
- Experience with developing internal or external communications strategies
- Experience of develop an impactful advocacy strategy
- Experience in assessing policy documents and evidence, summarising this and pulling out relevant information in an accessible way.
- Ability to produce high quality written work in English with a strong eye for detail
- Experience of organising events
- Experience of working in a public policy or campaigning organisation
- Passionate about climate adaptation and water security, and driven to make a difference in the lives of vulnerable communities
- Strong team player and willingness to be flexible to respond to changing priorities.

Elrha is a global organisation that finds solutions to complex humanitarian problems through research and innovation. We are looking to recruit a Digital and Creative Communications Manager on a 5 month paternity cover contract.
Are you a creative communicator? Are you able to develop and curate digital content that sparks conversation? Can you guide people to produce impactful products that share stories of our work in an accessible and compelling way? This is an exciting role where you will lead on implementing Elrha’s digital strategy, including overseeing the final stages of our new website and the continued development of our social channels, to help our work reach our key audiences and enhance our voice in the humanitarian community.
In this role you will have the opportunity to oversee the production process of products of all shapes and sizes in line with our digital first approach, making sure everything is true to our brand, connects with our audiences, and is inclusive and accessible to all. You will also use your skills to lead on communication activities for Elrha’s events to showcase the best of our work, and the work of those we fund.
You will be given a high degree of autonomy in your work, so to be successful, you will need to be flexible, bold, and work well in a constantly changing environment. You will have strong organisation skills and experience of managing a varied workload while paying attention to the tiny details.

About the role
This role will be responsible leading on the digital communications and content strategy focussing on developing fundraising messaging and digital influencing campaigns in an integrated way across all related channels to drive forward our ambitious fundraising and campaigns plans.
As part of the award-winning Fundraising and Brand team at Refugee Action, you will help create and implement bespoke supporter journeys across multiple online platforms with the aim of significantly raising our online presence, increasing donations, inspiring change and supporting the organisation’s growth. You will be a critical bridge between the Campaigns and the Comms & Digital teams, ensuring that our strategies are aligned and insights based. You will have the opportunity to create content, marketing materials and strategically manage social media and web operations for Refugee Action at a critical and exciting time.
To succeed in the role you will need to demonstrate:
- Proven ability to lead strategic digital content creation and understanding of the importance of emotional storytelling to successful fundraising and campaigning.
