About The Role
The Help for Heroes Community Development team are looking to recruit a team of Community Development Managers to assist in their reshaped participation and connection strategy. Using Asset Based Community Development, we seek to support the charity’s objective to enhance reach and positive impact for members of the Armed Forces Community facing challenges within their local communities.
As a Community Development Manager, you will lead and inspire a team of Community Builders, fostering collaboration, innovation and commitment to community impact working in an ABCD informed way. The aim is to connect and re-engage members of the AFC with the services at Help for Heroes and within the wider community.
This is an exciting and varied role for dynamic and confident individuals, in which the right candidate will work directly within communities across the UK; bringing the Armed Forces Community together to improve wellbeing and make the community a better place to live. The main purpose of the role is to contribute to the leadership of an integrated, community development and hybrid volumizing offer which improves reach and sustained positive impact for members of the Armed Forces community.
About You
You will be responsible for the effective line management of a dispersed community-based team and have experience managing co-designed/co-delivered community development initiatives. You will recognise the potential for growth and expansion within these communities and empower local people to exact changes focused on what’s important to them.
You will have a genuine professional commitment to ABCD informed delivery, possess the capacity to work collaboratively with others and pilot projects for new community development initiatives by identifying and creating viable plans for growth and expansion to increase reach, impact and accessibility across the AFC.
Key Responsibilities

Coordinate locality-based Community Development related services

Provide line management for a regionally specific team of Community Builders, positively participating in line management meetings, annual appraisals, monthly and quarterly team meetings as required facilitating 1:1 and group line management supervision including volunteers

Act as safeguarding and health and safety lead for your regional team ensuring safe practice

Set clear objectives and performance expectations for Community Development colleagues/volunteers and programme activity

Identify and leverage community assets and resources to support community development initiatives

Support the collation of evidence and impact data
PLEASE NOTE: There is a requirement for frequent travel extensively within the regions allocated for this role. There will be evening and weekend working as required and flexibility in working hours is necessary to ensure a total of 70 hours is covered over a 2-week period so please take this into consideration before applying.
We are looking for someone with the following:

Educated to degree level in a relevant field (Social Science, Community Development, Health and Social Care), related field, or hold an equivalent professional Community Development qualification.

Demonstrable experience of senior management/leadership of a Community Development team or integrated multi-disciplinary service informed by Community Development principles

Proficiency in managing projects from conception to completion

Outstanding written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex ideas clearly and persuasively
About The Team
You will work as part of the Community Development team; this newly formed team will approach working in defined localities using an asset based community development approach. Together the Community Development Managers and the Community Builders will strengthen local communities using resources and networks that are readily available. You will do this to proliferate opportunities for sustainable participation and engagement alongside a multi-disciplinary team in order to support the Armed Forces Community to live well after service.

- Manage and grow an existing pipeline of charitable trusts, with a focus on increasing grant giving
- Lead on small and medium-value funding applications and reapplications across NLT’s programmes
Ideal skills and experience:
- Fundraising experience in trusts, corporate, community development, education or health charity
- Knowledge of fundraising principles, and the relationship between prospecting, cultivation, application and stewardship to secure regular and multi-annual grants
- Excellent written and spoken communications, including attention to detail and ability to write a compelling case’s for support

The Direct Marketing Manager, Retention, is a newly developed role at the DEC, responsible for shaping and delivering new and existing supporter journeys for DEC individual, community and legacy donors, and leading a programme of improvement across all major contact points between the DEC and the public.
The Direct Marketing Manager, Retention will:
- Contribute to and develop DEC direct marketing strategies, including the refreshing, implementation and analysis of the DEC’s segmentation, to maximise future income and continually improve the retention of individual supporters for future emergency appeals,
- Lead on the production of retention and reporting back materials for individual and community supporters,
- Manage the development and maintenance of specific supporter journeys,

Key responsibilities include:
Strategy and Planning
- Develop and implement the direct marketing retention strategy, ensuring that past learnings are built upon, and new ideas are tested.
- Develop and implement specific audience journeys for segments across both the life cycle of a DEC appeal and between appeals.

- Build an improved supporter journey strategy for new, repeat, and lapsed donors.

Fundraising

Networking and building relationships
- Develop excellent working relationships with the DEC’s suppliers including creative agencies, media agencies, SMS and email suppliers, and the print/mailing house.
- Work with permanent and temporary staff at the DEC during appeals to maximise the success of the appeal.

Reporting to the Head of Programmes, Gender and Humanitarian the post holder will identify, prospect and approach new institutional donors, converting them form prospects to secured funds. You will ensure the effective delivery of a portfolio of institutional and corporate grants, making sure projects are achieving key milestones and that day-to-day activities are on track. The Programme Development Manager will provide high quality project information to both internal and external stakeholders, extracting and quality assuring project data relevant for reporting, and making sure all projects are compliant with donor requirements. You will proactively manage relationships with existing donors, developing engagement strategies, sharing key information, and laying groundwork for follow-on funding. Finally, you will lead proposals for new and existing donors, coordinating inputs from Hand in Hand International and network colleagues, drafting technical inputs, and engaging with funders where required.
The ideal candidate will have an innovative approach and a strong track record in fundraising from large institutional donors; trusts and foundations, corporate foundations and governments. The main objective of the role is to identify, prospect and approach new institutional donors, converting them from prospects to secured funds. The role will be roughly 70% fundraising and 30% grant management.
As well as a demonstrable track-record securing large, multi-year grants from different types of funders, you will have experience with their thematic areas: women’s economic empowerment, value chains, livelihoods or enterprise acceleration. Experience working in development projects in Eastern Africa: Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Zimbabwe. Experience in Afghanistan would be a plus.

Our Technical Knowledge team oversees Blue Ventures’ technical pillars (Secure Rights, Community-Based Fisheries Management, Food Security and Financial Inclusion) and supports the use of data for decision-making, providing tools, training, and guidance to partners and Blue Ventures’ staff around the world. This team integrates expertise and deep practical experience with pragmatism and a desire to enable others to deliver lasting change, by distilling global best practices and knowledge into usable tools, appropriate training, and responsive guidance and support. The team is also responsible for delivering peer learning exchanges and knowledge-sharing events both online and face-to-face across the organisation, in addition to overseeing technical publications.

Ensure compliance with the organisation's safeguarding policies by completing all required training.
Skills and experience:

Demonstrable success in securing grants, including awards between £20-£100k.

Confident and effective communicator with excellent presentation skills, able to engage with a range of supporters in groups, individually, face-to-face, and remotely.

Proven experience in writing compelling cases for support and supporter updates that inspire and persuade donors.

Ability to develop, analyse, and interpret budgets and financial information.

Strong database skills, including experience in fundraising performance analysis.
