Background of Cystic Fibrosis Trust

Cystic fibrosis (CF) is a condition affecting around 11,000 people in the UK and 70,000–100,000 worldwide. As a genetic disorder, individuals will have CF from birth and for the rest of their life. 

Cystic Fibrosis Trust is the only UK charity dedicated to improving the lives of people living with CF. Formed in 1964, the Trust has continued to invest in cutting-edge research into the causes and treatments for the condition, campaigning for fast and equal access to transformational therapies and supporting improvements in the standards of clinical care. As an organisation, we have supported many of the major advances in CF research and healthcare. However, there is still much to be done.

Information about this role

The Philanthropy and Corporate Partnerships team is looking for a Philanthropy Volunteer to support them in securing high-value income.

In this role you will provide support across a number of areas of trust/foundation and high-net-worth fundraising (prospect research, mailings, thanking, application and report writing, etc.). to introduce you to the skills needed for an entry-level philanthropic fundraising role, whilst you also help us to raise much-needed funds for the charity. We have had great success with this role in the past, with all of our past volunteers so far having secured 4-figure donations for Cystic Fibrosis Trust and gained valuable experience for a career in fundraising. We may also be able to offer work within the Corporate Partnerships team to provide more varied experience.

We are looking for someone who:

• has some experience in general admin tasks and working with Microsoft 365 applications (e.g. Word)
• is available to volunteer over the next six months in Head Office
• is organised, with good attention to detail
• is good at team working.

Training and support

• You will be managed by an experienced Philanthropy Manager.
• Full support will be given with software packages that we use, e.g., NG donor management database.
• You will be provided with a laptop to use for your volunteering.
• We would also be open to offering career advice and mock interviews, depending on length of time with us.
• Volunteering hours are flexible to fit around you.

EVENTS VOLUNTEER (Guildford & Epsom Branch)

We are the RSPCA and it's our vision to live in a world where all animals are respected and treated with compassion. Our volunteers are incredible and play an absolutely essential role in helping us carry out our important animal welfare work every day. Much of the RSPCA’s direct animal welfare work is carried out through the branches. These separately registered charities across England and Wales are run by volunteers who are unstinting in their work for animal welfare.

We are looking for friendly volunteers to help fundraise at fetes, in supermarkets and other outlets to collect vital donations that enable us to continue our animal welfare work. The more volunteers we have and funds we can raise, the more animals we can help!

Overview of the opportunity

In this role, you will be the friendly face of the RSPCA, helping us raise funds for our branch at community fetes and in local high streets, supermarkets and similar outlets.

This varied role offers you the chance to experience different volunteering positions, ranging from street collections and in-store fundraising drives to attendance at local community fetes. Each of these events are equally important to raising vital funds as well as raising our profile in the community.

Volunteering at events offers you the opportunity to meet other volunteers and learn about how you each support the RSPCA. You will most likely meet animals that we have rehomed and hear about their adoption journey.

If you have a relaxed dog that likes meeting people, you are welcome to bring them along with you to street collections and fundraising drives as this is always a conversation starter!

Location is dependent on the event at which you choose to volunteer, you will be out in the community in the local area

What you will be doing

(this list is not exhaustive but gives an idea of some of the tasks that you may be required to assist with.)

• Street collections and fundraising drives: standing with a collection bucket, greeting members of the public and thanking them for any donations.
•  Fetes and fairs: potentially assisting with set up or pack away, handling money from sales of chatting to members of the public and thanking them for any purchases they make.
•  Helping seek out event opportunities and organising them.

• No experience is necessary as we will provide you with the guidance you need.

•  We ask for a minimum of one hour of your time - we recommend a maximum of 2 hours at any one event as you will be standing.

Why am I needed?

Community is at the heart of everything that we do at Tenovus Cancer Care to help those affected by cancer. Our aim is simple – to deliver a vision where fewer people get cancer and those that do receive equal access to excellent treatment. However, we can’t do this without your help. Our shops in local communities are crucial to us raising vital funds. So, we’d like you to volunteer your time and commitment to help us make a difference. We need you to help create exciting displays in our windows and in our shops to help turn clothes into cash.

What will I be doing?

Creating visually inspiring displays in our windows and in our shops under the guidance of our shop management team

Merchandising, displaying and maintaining high standards of presentation in the shop according to promotional activities and seasonal trends

Maintaining high levels of shop standards, presentation and cleanliness

Speaking with customers, making them welcome and answering queries

Promoting awareness of the charity and the services that we provide.

What skills do I need?

Creativity

A strong interest in fashion and retail

It’d be great if you have some knowledge of fashion, labels and trends

A really keen eye for detail

Ability to work on your own initiative and as part of a team

Ability to communicate effectively with other members of the team and customers.

Many of the standard tasks within the shop involve standing or sitting for periods, handling bags and donations from the public and there may be stairs to climb depending on which shop you are based in. If you have any concerns about this, please speak with the Shop Manager when expressing your interest in volunteering.

How much time do I need to commit?

We’d need you to give around three hours per week if you can with the possibility to do more if you’d like to. However, we appreciate any time you’d like to give; please let us know this on your application form. All we ask is that you give the same hours each week and that you let us know as soon as you can if you’re not able to make it. This’ll help us to plan our week.

What support will I be given?

Before starting with Tenovus Cancer Care, we ask that you do try a small number of hours in the shop so we can both see how the role may suit you. The amount of hours can be decided between you and the Shop Manager.

Following that the Shop Manager and team will be on hand to run you through the basics of helping in a shop in your first few days and they’ll always be on hand after that.

Events and Campaigns at LAFF are seen as a way of engaging and increasing our supporter network. This is a dynamic role which will see you work with the Fundraising and Communications teams to recognise that support is far greater than just financial donations: we put a great value on our community’s time, communication with their personal networks, skills and ideas.

You will take on the responsibility of being a central point of contact for LAFF’s supporters when organizing their own fundraising events, as well as developing and delivering innovative events and campaigns for LAFF.

Your ability to think creatively to create disruptive communications strategies which will engage individuals and convert them into supporters will be crucial, as well as your research skills to help find new opportunities to hold events and campaigns.

Objectives of this Role

• Identify, plan and host fundraising events online and in person

• Network and establish contact with individuals and businesses for potential event collaboration or partnership

• Take primary responsibility for all planning, logistics and arrangements of LAFF’s ongoing events and campaigns.

• Work closely with the communications team to actively promote and create awareness of LAFF’s events, identifying the appropriate audiences and potential attendees and tailoring the strategy accordingly e.g. local or expat communities

• Act as a central point of contact and support for LAFF community members organizing their own events and develop resources for members to use

• Engage LAFF’s donor community with targeted events for different audiences e.g. school assemblies, webinars, raffles

• Support the communications team in developing visual media to promote events and for campaign

Skills and Qualifications

• Undergraduate degree in a related field (Communications, Event Management, International Relations) or currently enrolled

• 6 months of volunteering or work experience; PR/Communications/Event Planning experience highly desirable but not essential

• Advanced proficiency in either English or Spanish required, but high proficiency in both languages desirable

• Energetic with excellent interpersonal and networking skills

• Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills

• Good time management and communication skills for working with other teams

• Highly organized, flexible, independent, culturally sensitive and detail oriented with the ability to multitask

• Knowledge of design and formatting a plus

We are seeking up to three individuals to join our Trustee Board and help shape the future of Longfield Community Hospice as we develop our next five-year strategy.

What will you be doing?

Longfield provides a range of services to people living with life limiting conditions, terminal diagnoses or with a need for end of life care, alongside supporting their families, carers and loved ones.  As a trustee you will play a crucial role in shaping our strategic direction, ensuring that our services remain responsive and effective. This includes, 

• Ensuring we have a clear vision, mission and strategic direction and are focused on achieving them.
• Having clear oversight of organisational performance.
• Supporting the development of a healthy organisational culture. 
• Ensuring all legal and regulatory compliance.
• Ensuring organisational governance is maintained to the highest possible standard. 

Time commitment

The board meets every quarter, as do each of our committees. Meetings take place both online and face to face and last approx. 2 hours.

Time commitment is meeting attendance, time before meetings to read papers and occasional ad hoc discussions, strategy and planning sessions or events.

What are we looking for?

We are looking for people with experience of one or more of the following,

• Enterprise & business development: Entrepreneurial and innovative with business expertise and income generation experience. Insights into commercial activities such as repurposing facilities or partnering with other providers, to maximize the use of resources for long-term sustainability.
• Fundraising & Income Generation: Broad understanding of income generation, particularly in engaging major donors and corporate partners, with a strong focus on diversifying income streams for financial sustainability. 
• Retail: Commercial or charity retail experience, with a genuine interest in sustainable practices.
• IT: Strategic guidance on maximizing  effective use of IT, driving IT innovation and ensuring strong cybersecurity measures across the charity.
• Finance: Finance background with experience in managing or being part of a finance team.

One In Four is looking for a new treasurer. We are a charity providing specialist support for survivors of sexual abuse, domestic abuse or violence in childhood or as adults.

Who we are

One in Four is one of the UK’s leading counselling support charities, with over 24 years’ experience of specialising in the long-term recovery support for adults and children who have a lived experience and survived sexual abuse and violence. We provide professional training for those working with survivors, advocacy and education of the public in the nature of sexual abuse and its effect on those who have been subject to it.

The role

Your role as treasurer will be to

– Monitor the financial standing of the charity and report to the Board regarding cash-flow forecasting, income streams, out-going expenses and the overarching strategic management of the organisation’s financial resources.

– Oversee the charity’s financial risk-management process and report financial health to the Board of Trustees at regular intervals.

– Act as a counter signatory for on-line payments and applications to funders, and ensure that annual accounts are submitted to all relevant regulators in a timely fashion.

– Liaise with external auditors on financial issues and ensure that the organisation’s finances are responsibly managed and invested for the betterment of the organisation’s work and for the beneficiaries it serves.

Qualities of a Treasurer

• Qualified accountant with demonstrated commercial awareness and knowledge.
• Knowledge of charity SORP and impending changes.
• Competent use of IT skills.
• Proven ability to communicate and explain financial information to members of the Board and other stakeholders.

• Demonstrated knowledge and experience of charity fundraising and finance practices.

• Skills and experience in one or more areas of non-executive governance and management, e.g. strategic planning, business management, financial/accountancy, understanding of HR issues, experience of Trusts or other grant-giving bodies, particularly fundraising and legal knowledge.

Join Rekindle's board to shape the future of a dynamic mental health charity making a real difference in the lives of young people.

Rekindle was started in Newtown, Powys in 1997 by a group of people who had all experienced mental health problems within their own families. The aim was to give relief to those suffering from mental illness with therapy and targeted activities. Rekindle is all about recovery, the recovery of mental health, the recovery of opportunity and the recovery of a fulfilled life.

What will you be doing?

In addition to general trustee responsibilities, we're particularly interested with in candidates who have an interest in local business connections or experience in fundraising or mental health service delivery. Depending on skill, some specific responsibilities may include: 

• Fundraising oversight
• Grant applications

Time commitment 

• Estimated at 8 - 10 hours a month. 
• The board meet 4 times a year, generally in person. Remote attendance can be supported, but trustees are encouraged to attend at least 2 meetings a year face to face. 
• Trustees are also expected to contribute ad hoc and occasional time outside of board meetings, the majority of which is done remotely.

You do not need previous governance experience to join the board. We will provide an induction an ongoing support. We are also eager to diversify our board and welcome younger trustees and those with lived experience.

We are recruiting for a new Treasurer to oversee our finances and are looking for someone with a formal qualification in a financial discipline and financial management experience at a strategic level to join our small but dynamic team. Role Description

Key tasks:

1. Specific Treasurer tasks

• Chair the Finance and Resources Group meetings held once a quarter
• Work with the Chief Executive to prepare and present financial reports to the quarterly Board meetings
• Keep the Board aware of their financial responsibilities
• Ensure that the accounts and financial systems are audited, as required by law
• Liaise with the Accountants/Auditors to complete end of year accounts
• Assist with filing annual accounts with the Charity Commission

2. General Trustee duties

• Assist in ensuring that the organisation pursues its objectives as defined in its governing document and legally operates
• Contribute actively to the Board of Trustees’ role in giving firm strategic direction to the organisation, setting overall policy, defining goals, setting targets and evaluating performance against agreed targets
• Safeguard the good name and values of the organisation
• Represent the organisation at functions and meetings as appropriate
• Declare any conflict of interest whilst carrying out the duties of a trustee
• Take collectively responsible for the actions of the organisation and other trustees
• Ensure the effective and efficient administration of the organisation
• Abide by all relevant policies and procedures
• Ensure the financial stability of the organisation
• Protect and manage the property of the organisation and to ensure the proper investment of the organisation’s funds
• Ensure the organisation is properly insured against all reasonable liabilities
• Assist in the appointment and support Senior Managers and monitor their performance
• Provide feedback on board papers, lead discussions, focus on key issues, provide advice and guidance on new initiatives
