Treasurer/Trustee
Who we are:
We are a long-standing (32 years) local charity, based in Ashford, providing friendly advice, companionship and volunteering opportunities for anyone in our part of Kent who is socially isolated, lonely, or would welcome support with their mental health and wellbeing. We arrange 3 free drop-in sessions per week at Ashford Parish Rooms, at which our service users participate in a wide range of activities including crafts, singing and art therapy. We also offer food and beverages from our pop-up healthy eating café and dedicated door-to-door transport where required.
Due to a retirement we are now seeking a Treasurer to join our Board of Trustees.
About the Role:
The Treasurer will be responsible for making sure that the charity meets its financial and governance obligations by operating within the legal and fiscal guidelines set out in current legislation. They will ensure that robust financial controls and budgeting are in place to protect the best interests of the charity and its service users, and that the charity operates within a sound framework with all monetary transactions properly monitored and accounted for. They will make certain that all necessary financial information provided to the Board, Charity Commission and other appropriate parties is timely, comprehensive and accurate, and shall advise the Board of the commercial implications of its strategy and policy objectives.
It is expected that all Trustees will be able to attend our Trustee meetings in Ashford, which are held at least once a quarter, as well as the AGM and ideally a small number of other functions eg fundraising events.
Skills & Experience:
Essential:
Highly numerate and financially aware
Experience in a financial or accounting role
Ability to communicate and explain financial information to members of the Board
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
Willingness to commit sufficient time to the Treasurer role

Other Information
This role is done remotely using Zoom, Slack and email. You would be working closely with the charity’s Chair and with other trustees. However we would have regular updates and remote meetings as needed so we know you are getting the support you need.

BRANCH TRUSTEE – INCOME GENERATION

Overview of the Branch Trustee opportunity
We are looking for an enthusiastic and passionate person, with a background in income generation or fundraising, who could devote their time to volunteer as a trustee for our Branch and support us in maximising the revenue brought into the Branch to support our animal centre and welfare work.
Alongside passing on your expertise, this opportunity will give you the chance to influence how we care for and prevent cruelty to animals and drive the implementation of key initiatives. You will serve on the governing body of the charity and be instrumental, alongside fellow trustees, in the running of the Branch and setting out both the short and long term aims.
As a minimum, trustees would normally be expected to attend a bi-monthly committee meeting lasting around 2 to 3 hours (virtual meetings are an option). However, the commitment may vary depending on your availability, and if you decide to take on additional duties.
Trustee do not need to live within the branch boundaries but occasional travel to Branch sites may be required from time to time.

About the RSPCA Preston & District Branch
Over 80% of the animal welfare work of the RSPCA is carried out through local Branches which are run by staff and volunteers, supported by the RSPCA National Society.
Preston & District Branch has been affiliated with the National RSPCA for 150 years!
A separately registered charity looking after animals in the local area and engaging with the local community.
Our mission is to seek out safe homes for abandoned, neglected or abused animals who are nursed back to health, rehabilitated and found forever loving homes.
Preston & District Branch is part of a network of 140 branches, and 1 of only 8 in the North of England with an animal centre.
The rehoming centre is within the Preston area (close to JCN 31 of the M6).
RSPCA Preston & District Branch is a well established Branch with approximately 20 members of staff and 75 volunteers across 4 locations and raises all its funds locally through supporters and other income streams.
To continue helping animals in need the Branch also operates 3 charity shops in Longridge, Chorley and Penwortham (within our specified branch area) which bring in a regular income to keep our animal centre open.
Primary responsibilities of the Branch Trustee – Income Generation
- Explore ways to generate income for the Branch and work closely with the Branch Manager to put these ideas into action.
- You would aim to identify potential sources of funding which could be explored so we can continue this important work.
- You would organise and coordinate events that bring together those also determined to improve the welfare of animals to raise the funds we need to come to the aid of animals who are in need. Work with the trustees to produce a fundraising plan and budget.
- Identify fundraising roles and help recruit volunteers to fill them.
What we are looking for in a volunteer:
Ideally you would have some level of knowledge in the following areas- finance, legal, fundraising, project management, business experience, awareness of employment and/or charity legislation. These all can be useful to help ensure we have a sound and robust business model and long term strategic development plan, however, they are not essential.
We are looking for people who are creative, innovative, who have experience of or are part of groups and communities we want to attract, who can bring new ideas, different experiences and fresh perspectives to the board and to help put those ideas into action.

Purpose of role:
The Board of Trustees is responsible for the overall governance and strategic direction of Wandsworth Care Alliance (WCA).
Scope and objectives:
Trustees have a duty individually and collectively to:
- Determine the overall direction and development of WCA through good governance and clear strategic planning.
- Ensure that WCA pursues the objectives defined in its governing documents, and complies with charity law, company law, employment legislation, and with all other relevant legislation, constantly striving for best practice in governance.

- Ensure that WCA uses its resources in pursuit of its charitable objects.
Main duties:
- To contribute actively to the Board’s role in providing direction for WCA, in setting overall policy and in maintaining a framework of good governance and accountability, and in evaluating performance against agreed targets.
- To give clear direction, leadership, guidance, and advice to the WCA director and staff.
- To safeguard the good name and values of WCA and to act as an ambassador for the organisation.
- To provide vision, inspiration, and support to the WCA director and staff.
- To ensure the effective and efficient administration of WCA.

Duty of care:
Each Trustee will:

- Safeguard the good name and values of WCA.
- Maintain absolute confidentiality about sensitive information received in the course of responsibilities as a Trustee.
Each Trustee will:
- Ensure that the charity is and will remain solvent; keeping informed of the charity’s activities and financial position;
- Avoid undertaking activities that might place the charity’s property, funds, assets or reputation at undue risk.
Each Trustee is required to act reasonably and prudently in all matters relating to the charity and must always bear the interests of WCA in mind.
Section 72(1) of the Charities Act 1993 disqualifies anyone who:
- Has been convicted of an offence involving deception or dishonesty unless the conviction is spent.
- Is an un-discharged bankrupt.
- Has previously been removed from trusteeship of a charity by the court or the Charity Commissioners.
- Is under a disqualification order under the Company Directors Disqualification Act 1986.
It is an offence to serve as a charity trustee while disqualified unless the Charity Commission has given a waiver under section 72(4) of the Charities Act 1993.
Accountability:
The law imposes a duty of care on Trustees to act responsibly and prudently in all matters relating to their charity and to act in the best interests of the charity.
WCA is a registered Charity and Company Limited by guarantee and Trustees are therefore accountable to the members, the Charity Commission, and to Companies House (as company directors).
Suitability as a WCA Trustee will include many of the following:
- Commitment to Wandsworth Care Alliance (WCA).
- Willingness to devote the necessary time and effort.
- Availability to attend meetings regularly.
- Strategic vision.
- Good, independent judgement.
- Ability to think creatively.
- Willingness to participate actively in discussions, listening to others and con- tributing accordingly.

We are looking for talented individuals to join the Board of Trustees at the Ecology Centre; an inclusive, community-led charity in Kinghorn, Fife that connects people with nature for the benefit of both.

PFP is a UK-based charity working in Africa and Asia since 2004, and this year we are celebrating our 20th anniversary. Our Mission is to work together with local people and filmmakers to produce, distribute and show local language educational films that give help and hope to vulnerable and disadvantaged communities. Our latest activities have primarily focused on Malawi, Sierra Leone and Kenya.

Primary responsibilities
- Attend and contribute to quarterly Board meetings and work with the Directors and Trustees in advancing PFP’s vision, mission, and strategic goals.
- Develop and deliver PFP’s HR strategy. This includes the development and maintenance of employee and associate contracts, company policies and procedures, benefits and training packages, and a positive working environment.
- Lead on the recruitment and onboarding of employees, associates and volunteers, in accordance with the strategy of the Board.
- Work with the Director of Finance on payroll and pensions matters.
- Advise the organisation on compliance with employment law and safeguarding.
- Proactively seek fundraising opportunities.
- Contribute to the effective governance of PFP, including: ensuring PFP is accountable and carrying out its purpose for public benefit; ensuring compliance with the governing document and applicable law; and challenging the management of resources and ensuring financial stability.

Main duties of the role
· Hold a portfolio of work across a range of resourcing areas for the charity.

Key Responsibilities
Finance
· To provide financial information including management accounts with analysis, forecasting and insightful commentary to internal and external stakeholders.
· To support the annual budgeting process.
· To maintain financial procedures and controls.
· To support managers to make decisions based on forecasts and budgets, providing challenge and financial expertise where necessary.
HR
· Undertake and deliver all HR transactional administration including recruitment, selection, appointment, induction and exit interviews.
· Support production of HR reporting to Senior Management Team and Trustees on a regular basis including staff sickness, diversity, complaints, grievances, disciplinary, turn-over, training, appraisal etc.
· Support Head of Resources on welfare support to staff to include internal promotion of staff benefits and liaison with external providers.
Governance
· Support the preparation and circulation of Board meeting papers and packs.
· Provide organisational and administrative support to the Senior Management Team and be the single point of contact for the Trustees.
Other Duties
· Assist as required with the co-ordination of YSS events.
· To take responsibility for keeping own knowledge up to date on relevant legislation and strategies that affect YSS services.
· To understand and actively promote the vision, values and profile of YSS.
· To uphold the highest standards of professionalism at all times, ensuring that EDI principles are adhered to.
· To maintain continuity of cover for holidays and sickness.

Social Anxiety Alliance UK is a young and developing charity looking for an experienced Treasurer with a background in financial management and accounting who can also help us to find funding and grants to continue the charity's development. The Treasurer will play a crucial role in overseeing the financial administration of the charity and will have a good understanding of charity finance and potential funding/grant awarding bodies. The Treasurer would also need to be willing to be a Trustee and aware of the governance issues relating to such a role.

After visiting Smart Works, 63% of clients secure a job within a month, gaining financial independence and transforming their lives. The Smart Works service is delivered in London, Manchester, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Birmingham, Newcastle, Reading and Leeds.
Over the past ten years, Smart Works has helped over 30,000 women. It is our mission that any woman who needs our service should be able to find her way to a Smart Works centre.
In April 2022, Smart Works launched a new Three-Year Plan that will see the charity double the number of women helped annually from 5,000 to 10,000 women a year. To achieve this, we will grow our existing centres and open new centres in areas of need.

Over the past 10 years, a dynamic calendar filled with a variety of engaging fundraising activities has been developed to support the work of the charity, with income generated through grants from trusts and foundations, community events and partnership working. Our growth has been driven by an experienced Board of Trustees, dedicated staff team of 8 and our community of 100 volunteers. The Smart Works community is well established in both Glasgow and Edinburgh and the team are excited at the amazing possibilities that exist to continue to reach more and more women across Scotland in need of our service.
Our current Chair who set up the charity all those years ago, has decided that now is the right time to recruit a new Chair who can build on her amazing legacy and steer the charity through its next phase of growth. ABOUT THE ROLE
The operation and success of Smart Works Scotland is overseen by a passionate and dedicated Board of Trustees, which is led by the Chair of the Board.
Working closely with their Board, the Chair is responsible for the direction, financial stability and governance of Smart Works Scotland. A key accountability will be to oversee the successful delivery of the fundraising strategy and ensure the UK-wide Smart Works strategy is effectively brought to life in the Scotland.
A key part in achieving this will be leveraging networks to raise the profile of the charity and motivating others to join the Smart Works community as volunteers, ambassadors and donors.
The successful candidate will provide mentorship to the eight members of staff and cultivate a supportive environment where the team can thrive and deliver outstanding results. The role holder will also participate in national Smart Works forums alongside other Smart Works Chairs.
The role is perfect for an experienced and purposeful leader who is passionate about supporting women to transform their lives, and wants to use their skills, professional network and experience for good.
It is a voluntary position, with reasonable travel costs and expenses being covered.
