We are looking for volunteers from a wide range of backgrounds and experience who could come onboard as a start-up Trustee, to help us set up and register Urban Youth as a youth charity and getting us set up and ready to run services for young people. This includes fundraising, grant writing, raising our profile, creating campaigns and much much more, ensuring we are able to help stop the youth-on-youth violence across London and beyond.

The role of Trustee is vital, especially for a new start-up charity and you will be providing much needed support and advice, supporting the Founder and CEO to make Urban Youth a huge success. This includes, setting strategy including overall, fundraising and others, networking and helping to raise our profile, writing grant applications and carrying out fundraising activities to raise much needed income and being the governance body for the new charity, working closely with the volunteer team, charity commission and other key stakeholders.

We are partnering Music Therapy Works (MTW) an independent charity based in the West Midlands, whose mission is to deliver comprehensive music therapy services for individuals, groups and communities in a wide range of circumstances.

MTW provides music therapy to support and enhance communication, self-expression, and wellbeing. They work in a variety of settings including schools, hospitals, care homes and hospices to help people whose lives have been affected by injury, illness or disability through supporting their psychological, emotional, cognitive, physical, communicative and social needs.

We are seeking a new Trustee for MTW to join their current board and support the CEO to bring new insight and skills to set and approve the strategic direction of the charity.

What is a Trustee?

• Being a trustee means making decisions that will impact people’s lives and make a real difference to our community.
• Trustees are the people who lead the charity and decide how it is run. They play a vital role in helping to define and develop the work of the charity.
• Trustees work alongside the management team, using their skills and experience to help the charity to define and achieve its strategic aims. But they do not undertake the day-to-day work of running the organisation.
• Trustees are also Directors of MTW as it is both a registered charity and a company limited by guarantee.
• Trustees give their time on a voluntary basis. They are not paid fees, but they can claim reasonable expenses.

YOUTH LINK NETWORKS is a UK registered charity with projects currently in Uganda. It has a mission to deliver sustainable initiatives that alleviate poverty in vulnerable communities across Africa and the Caribbean. Role Description

This is a volunteer Chair of the Board of Trustees role at YOUTH LINK NETWORKS, with the flexibility for some remote work. The Chair of the Board of Trustees will be responsible for overseeing the organization's strategic direction, providing leadership to the Board, ensuring effective governance, and representing the organization externally. This is a hybrid role, primarily located in the London Area, United Kingdom, with the option for some remote work.

PFP is a UK-based charity working in Africa and Asia since 2004, and this year we are celebrating our 20th anniversary. Our Mission is to work together with local people and filmmakers to produce, distribute and show local language educational films that give help and hope to vulnerable and disadvantaged communities. Our latest activities have primarily focused on Malawi, Sierra Leone and Kenya.

Every PFP film seeks to bring about positive change by engaging audiences with themes, characters and subjects that address important challenges facing themselves and their communities.

Primary responsibilities

- Attend and contribute to quarterly Board meetings and work with the Trustees and Directors in advancing PFP’s vision, mission, and strategic goals.

- Deliver and develop PFP’s communications strategy. This includes: working with our executive team to produce supporter newsletters and build our supporter network; developing our social media strategy, and supporting our Administrator in its implementation; and producing press releases.

- Maintain and develop our Wordpress website.

- Proactively seek fundraising opportunities.

- Contribute to the effective governance of PFP, including: ensuring PFP is accountable and carrying out its purpose for public benefit; ensuring compliance with the governing document and applicable law; and challenging the management of resources and ensuring financial stability.

- Act as an ambassador and public representative for PFP.

Home-Start helps families with young children through their challenging times. ROLE SUMMARY

Our trustees bring strategic oversight and direction; to ensure Causeway is true to its purpose and effective in its strategic objectives, whilst ensuring all governance responsibilities are fulfilled. They champion the people we support, promote the charity and its work and bring expertise in order to purposefully develop Causeway and its impact. The Charities Act 1993 defines charity trustees as those responsible under the charity's governing document for controlling the administration and management of the charity. At Causeway the charity trustees are the board of directors and are known as the trustee board.

Who are we looking for?

Causeway are looking to recruit a Treasurer to the Board who is willing to bring energy, enthusiasm and commitment to the role, and support the strategic growth of the charity. We are particularly looking for our Treasurer to have:

• A relevant accounting qualification.

• Experience of charity accounting and relevant accounting standards.

• Ability to maintain overview of the financial affairs of the charity, ensuring its viability and proper financial records and procedures.

• A confident networker who will bring relevant connections and facilitate introductions for the benefit the charity.

• Experience in working with the Chief Financial Officer, Board and subcommittees.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Role Title: Treasurer Trustee

Salary: Voluntary (Trustees can claim out of pocket expenses incurred in travelling to meetings)

RESPONSIBILITIES

The role of the trustee board is to receive assets from our partners and donors, safeguard them and apply them to the charitable purposes of Causeway. The trustee board must always act in the best interests of the charity, exercising the same standard of duty of care that a prudent person would apply if looking after the affairs of someone for whom they have responsibility.

The legal responsibilities of a trustee are to:

· Ensure that Causeway complies with its governing document, charity law, company law and any other relevant legislation or regulations

· Ensure that Causeway pursues its objects as defined in its governing document

· Ensure Causeway applies its resources exclusively in pursuance of its objects

· Contribute actively to the board of trustees by providing strategic direction, setting overall policy, and defining goals and targets

· Ensure the financial stability of Causeway

· Safeguard the good name of Causeway, scrutinise board papers and other key communications

In addition to the above statutory duties, each trustee will use their specialist skills, knowledge and experience to identify key issues, provide advice and guidance to the Chief Executive Officer and Senior Leadership team, and help improve the decision making of the trustees board.

· Our trustees will seek to promote Causeway, drawing upon their strategic contacts and networks and supporting fundraising efforts in order to maximise the charity’s impact and brand.

Trustee Criteria (skills and expertise)

Each trustee must be:

· Support and provide advice on Causeway’s purpose, vision, goals and activities.

· Approve operational strategies and policies and monitor and evaluate their implementation.

· Oversee Causeway’s financial plans and budgets and monitor and evaluate progress.

· Ensure the effective and efficient administration of the organisation.

· Ensure that key risks are being identified, monitored and controlled effectively.

· Review and approve Causeway’s financial statements.

· Provide support and challenge to the CEO in the exercise of their delegated authority and affairs.

· Keep abreast of changes in the landscape that Causeway operates in

· Contribute to regular reviews of Causeway’s governance.

Specific responsibilities as Treasurer:

· To ensure that the organisation complies with its governing document and its own financial rules, charity law, company law, and other relevant legislation or regulations.

· To ensure that adequate financial procedures and controls are in place and that the organisation operates within a sound financial framework.

· To advise the Trustees on the financial implications of their strategy and policy objectives.

· To ensure that the organisation has appropriate financial risk management and reserves policies in place.

· To create and chair the Finance, Audit and Risk Committee where the following aspects are discussed on behalf of the Board of Trustees; and attend the Remuneration Committee.

· In association with the Chief Executive Officer and Chief Finance Officer, to ensure all financial dealings are properly accounted for.

· To lead the production of an annual budget, propose its adoption to the Board and, assisted by the Chief Executive Officer and Chief Finance Officer, monitor performance against budget.

· To liaise with the Chief Executive Officer and Chief Finance Officer to ensure that financial information (e.g. balance sheet, cash flow, bank balances, fundraising performance, reserves reporting) is provided to the Trustees in a timely manner and to be satisfied that this is comprehensive and accurate.

· In association with the Chief Finance Officer ensure all financial dealings are properly accounted for and that grants and other funds received for specific purposes are appropriately spent and accounted for as appropriate.

· To discuss the auditor's report and annual accounts with Trustees at the Annual General Meeting.

· To manage the process of appointment of auditors.

· To be involved in closely managing the Investments of the organisation, and provide Tax/Investment advice where necessary, with attention to the Pensions provision. provide advice on Causeway’s purpose, vision, goals and activities.

Person Specification

· Enthusiasm for Causeway’s vision and mission.

· Understanding of the legal duties, responsibilities and liabilities of trusteeship in the UK charity sector.

· Able to demonstrate strategic vision and think creatively.

· Relevant experience and knowledge of managing finances.

· Experience and knowledge of current practice relevant to charities or SME finance.

· The skills to analyse proposals, examine their financial consequences and make concise recommendations.

· A recognised financial and/or accounting qualification would be highly beneficial but is not a prerequisite.

We are looking for a dynamic finance professional to join our Board of Trustees in the role of Treasurer, ideally with a background in strategy and governance. You will share our passion for addressing child literacy issues in the under 12s from disadvantaged areas, and our vision of all children thriving in homes where a love of reading is embraced.

We are a small friendly team, busy engaging with children and their families on the ground and online, and you will be responsible for ensuring that our Charity’s finances are managed appropriately and effectively. Our trustees play a vital role in achieving the Strata Florida Trust’s core aim – the restoration of the buildings of Mynachlog Fawr to create the Strata Florida Centre/Canolfan Ystrad Fflur as a place of heritage, culture and education. They oversee and steer the vision, strategy and progress of the Trust, drawing on their own knowledge, skills and networks.

As a small but ambitious charity we are seeking individuals for the role whose experience and skills will complement those of our existing board members and enable the Trust to continue to expand.

Remuneration: The role of Trustee is not accompanied by any financial remuneration.

Time commitment: Six Board meetings per year. Approximately 12 days in total including board meetings, and additional meetings, discussion and preparation.

What we are looking for

We are looking for people willing to bring energy, enthusiasm and commitment to the role, and who will broaden the diversity of thinking on our board.

An interest in supporting heritage, Welsh culture, education, tourism, rural communities, and traditional skills is essential. We are particularly interested in those who have experience of operational delivery and professional skills including accountancy and income generation.

Previous governance experience would be an advantage but is not essential.

· Willingness and ability to understand and accept their responsibilities and liabilities as trustees and to act in the best interests of the organisation.

· Ability to think creatively and strategically, exercise good, independent judgement and work effectively as a board member.

Terms of office

· Trustees are appointed for a 4 year term of office, renewal for 3 further terms to a maximum of 12 years.

· This is a voluntary unpaid position.

 

Time commitment

· Attending 6 Board meetings annually (bimonthly beginning in January). Currently meetings are held at Y Beudy, Strata Florida, with the option to join via Zoom if required.  

· Attending additional meetings or focus groups if required.

In this Trustee recruitment round, we are looking to increase the diversity of our board and representation from the communities we serve. Within this we are specifically seeking applications from individuals with experience in Property / Estate Management, Fundraising, Community Engagement and Co-production, HR, Marketing & Communications and Advice provision.

About Caspari Foundation:

Caspari Foundation is the UK’s only provider of educational psychotherapy in schools, and the UK’s leading trainer in this field. What will you be doing: 

We are looking for a new Trustee to take the role of Treasurer to support our Trustee board and staff team, responsible for overseeing the financial management and health of the foundation/charity. This role is for someone who is organised and methodical, with a strong background in finance accounting or a related field. The Treasurer, as a member of the Board of Trustees, will work closely with the Business Director to ensure that the charity’s finances are managed effectively, transparently and in line with regulatory requirements.

We need someone

• Who has sound knowledge of financial planning and management, bookkeeping or accountancy
• With the ability to provide an overview of the organisation's finances to the Board, whilst providing support to the Business Director and Chair of Trustees
• With a willingness to challenge and support the Business Director and Chair of Trustees to spot trends and increase Caspari Foundation’s long term financial sustainability
• With an understanding of the charitable and voluntary sector and its governance will be an advantage, with an empathy for the aims and objectives of Caspari Foundation

Responsibilities of a trustee:

• Being responsible for directing the affairs of the charity
• Ensuring the charity is solvent and well-run
• Ensuring the charity delivers the charitable outcomes for the benefit of the public for which it has been set up
• Ensuring the charity complies with charity law, its own governing document, and other relevant legislation
• To consider the vision of the organisation as a whole and its beneficiaries ensuring that all the charity’s activities come within its charitable objects
• To set overall strategy and policy objectives and be mindful of them at all times
• To be an active member of the Board of Trustees in exercising its responsibilities and functions
• Chair or be a member of appropriate subgroup

Additional Duties as Treasurer

Financial Oversight:

• Identify and bring to the attention of the Board, any financial risks facing the charity
• To support the Board to understand its financial duties and responsibilities and the need to comply with all legislation
• Ensure that the charity’s financial resources are sufficient to meet the charity’s current and future needs, and to advise the Board on the charity’s reserves policy, and to ensure that this policy is reviewed and monitored regularly
• Review and monitor financial trends within the charity and the sector within which the charity operates

Budgeting:

• Scrutinise the proposed annual budget, and advise and guide the Board accordingly
• Scrutinise management accounts, performance against budget, trading performance etc, and to advise the Board accordingly
• Scrutinise and regularly evaluate the charity’s cash flow position, and to inform the Board of any concerns
• Review longer term forecasts of capital resources and of income and expenditure

Reporting:

• Work with the Business Director to formally present the accounts to the Annual General Meeting drawing to members’ attention all relevant matters, and to respond to questions from the floor

Compliance:

• Ensure that the charity operates within the financial guidelines set out in current legislation, by the Charity Commission, in the charity’s constitution and by the Board Record Keeping

Fund Management:

• Ensure that funding received for specific purposes is separately accounted for and spent for the purposes for which it was given

Audit:

• Ensure that the charity has adequate financial and internal audit controls and that these are monitored and reviewed regularly
• Meet the external auditor as required

Policy Development:

• To ensure that all financial policies, procedures and the appointment of external financial advisors are reviewed on a regular basis

Record Keeping:

• Maintain accurate financial records, including documentation for all income expenses and donations

Person Specification - Essential

• Proven experience in finance, accounting or a related field (CPA or equivalent qualification)
• Be a Director of the company (limited by guarantee) Please check that you fulfil the conditions on the UK government website
• Be willing to provide data required to be added to the Charity Commission website, Companies House website and the Financial Conduct Authority Register – your name only will be visible to the public. 
• Have a Disclosure and Barring Service check for Caspari Foundation (DBS check are not currently portable unless you have joined the update service)
• Regularly attend Full Board meetings (currently every 3 months)
• Be confident about our purpose and work and be an ambassador for Caspari Foundation
• Excellent organisation and communication skills
• Proficiency in accounting software (e.g. Quickbooks) and MS Office (especially Excel)
• Integrity, strategic vision and good/independent judgement
• A willingness to devote the necessary time and effort to their duties, including attending the bimonthly board meetings and finance related subgroup meetings
• Ability to take decisions for the good of the organisation
• Willingness to speak one's mind and listen to the views of other
• Ability to work effectively as a member of a team
• Understanding of the legal responsibilities and liabilities of a Trustee
• Knowledge and experience of current and fundraising finance practice relevant to voluntary and community organisations.

Time Commitment:

• Four meetings a year (one per quarter, dates agreed with trustees)

Smart Works is a dynamic, high profile and fast-growing UK charity that dresses, coaches and empowers unemployed women for success at their job interview. After visiting Smart Works, 63% of clients secure a job within a month, gaining financial independence and transforming their lives.

The Smart Works service is delivered in 11 centres across the UK. Over the past ten years, Smart Works has helped over 35,000 women. It is our mission that any woman who needs our service should be able to find her way to a Smart Works centre. More information about who we are can be found on our website.

In April 2022, Smart Works launched a new Three-Year Plan that will see the charity double the number of women helped annually from 5,000 to 10,000 women a year. To achieve this, we will grow our existing centres and open new centres in areas of need. We are well on the way to achieving our goals. 

About This Role

We are seeking up to 3 new trustees to join our Group Board. Smart Works is led by a Group Board of passionate and dedicated trustees, who are responsible for the governance and strategic direction of Smart Works. We also work closely with our 6 local Boards across the country.
