About you
They are looking for a brilliant major gifts fundraiser to join one of the UK’s best-loved nature charities to grow their network of high-net-worth individuals for Wales supporting their work in turning around the nature and climate emergencies. This is a brand-new role that will support their Welsh Trust’s Chief Executives, Senior Leadership Teams and their Wales Director in developing long-lasting partnerships that deliver a stepchange for nature’s recovery in Wales.
You will be a confident and engaging major gifts fundraiser, with the ability to express their case’s for support in tackling the nature and climate emergencies, both through their work on nature’s restoration on the ground, and through their influencing, policy and campaigning work. You will be highly experienced in initiating and developing mutually beneficial relationships with individuals to achieve fundraising targets, with a proven track record of securing significant unrestricted funds.

Duchenne UK is an ambitious, dynamic and impactful charity. Following their sons’ diagnosis of Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD), Emily Reuben and Alex Johnson founded Duchenne UK in 2012.
DMD is a devastating progressive condition diagnosed in early childhood which causes all the muscles in the body to gradually weaken. There are currently only very limited treatment options for DMD, so Emily and Alex set up Duchenne UK to change this.
Since 2012, we have raised more than £27 million to end the devastating impact of DMD. We fund ground-breaking scientific research to find effective treatments. We’ve developed the infrastructure of DMD clinical trial delivery in the UK. We engage industry and regulators to accelerate access to treatments. The Director of Income Generation will work collaboratively across the organisation to oversee and grow all of Duchenne UK’s income streams including fundraising, commercial engagement, and new business opportunities.

About the role
At a strategic level this role is responsible for leading on all aspects of income, including fundraising, commercial engagement, and new business opportunities, leading the development and delivery of a bold and effective income strategy to support our organisational ambitions and future sustainability.
The Director of Income Generation will inspire and develop the charity’s income team, taking overall responsibility for setting and achieving income targets for the organisation. They will ensure a collaborative and integrated approach to income generation across the organisation.
The Director of Income Generation will report to the CEO and be part of the Senior Leadership team, working closely alongside the Managing Director, Finance Director and Director of Research and Development. They will line manage a team to support the delivery of the income strategy.
Job Description
Income Generation
- Aligned to the organisational strategy, designing and delivering Duchenne UK’s income generation strategy, establishing a delivery plan to hit targets across a diverse range of income streams, including community fundraising, events, trusts and foundations, major donors, research and development grants and commercial income.
- Oversee the process and systems of managing funders and new business opportunities, including overseeing the charity’s CRM system (Salesforce) to support a high end and holistic approach to the account management of funders and stakeholders.
- Set, monitor and deliver annual income and expenditure targets.
- Attend meetings with funders and prospects, and networking events to uncover new opportunities, including management of Duchenne UK’s Development Board.
- Developing and growing the income pipeline, working closely with the Research and Development team to identify funding for existing and pipeline projects.
- Support the team to develop professional and engaging materials including fundraising proposition, applications, proposals, appeals, pitches and reports.
- Proactively seek-out and identify new trends and developments and make recommendations to Duchenne UK.
- Oversee reporting to ensure the preparation and timely submission of reports on progress on objectives, budgets and targets.
Strategy
- Provide strategic insight and vision both externally and internally as part of the Senior Leadership Team.

Leadership

Budgeting, reporting and compliance

Terms and conditions

Responsibilities Include
Strategic Planning
- To work with the Head of Philanthropy and Partnerships to develop and deliver a Major Gifts strategy with a focus on increasing income to meet ambitious funding targets, and to deliver the strategy through annual strategic planning, setting clear targets and KPIs focussing on year on year growth
- To lead on a departmental strategy for generating a pipeline of high-net-worth individuals and major gifts prospects
- Develop the annual budget for the team and take responsibility for the monitoring of income against budget.
Portfolio Management
- To work closely with the Head of Philanthropy and Partnerships, the CEO, Trustees and other stakeholders on prospect identification, cultivation and asks
- To personally manage a small portfolio of high-level donors, including institutional funders to secure five and six figure gifts and ensure their long-term commitment to the charity.
Team Management
- To oversee the operation of the Philanthropy and Partnerships team and to have direct line management responsibility for a team of four Relationship Managers, to ensure they are engaged, delivering agreed strategies, and meeting agreed financial targets
- To oversee all relevant fundraising activities, including research and analysis of current and potential prospects, ensuring that activity is data protection compliant
- To ensure the team maintains accurate records of relationships with major donors on our database, and to ensure that due diligence is carried out where required
- To over see the management of a range of events for supporters and prospects
- To support the Head of Philanthropy and Partnerships with planning and strategy as required
- Represent the Philanthropy and Partnerships team at quarterly review meetings and other forums as appropriate

Terms and Conditions:

Magic Breakfast’s mission is to end child morning hunger in the UK now and for good the Philanthropy team’s role is to develop and deliver the charity's high net worth individual giving programme in line with Magic Breakfast’s strategic priorities to enable our organisational growth against our mission.
We are seeking to grow income through further cultivation and stewardship of our potential and existing donors. Our High Value Giving teams are forecast to collectively raise £5.1m in 2021/22, up from £4.6m two years ago in 2019/20. Essential Technical Skills, Experience & Knowledge
- Degree or equivalent qualification in an appropriate technical field, or equivalent level of professional experience.
- Significant, proven experience of generating substantial funding including proven ability to develop funding strategies, plan effectively and deliver complex funding applications and donor reports.
- High level experience and knowledge of key humanitarian and development donors such as: ECHO, BHA/USAID, GFFO, FCDO and European government donors.
- Knowledge and experience of working with consortium-based funding.
- Proven strategic design and management skills including good programme development ability and proven knowledge of M&E at project and programme levels.
- Significant experience with budgeting, financial reporting, including managing and reporting on complex programme budgets.
- Ability to develop and manage complex relationships.
- Proven experience of funding management systems/databases.
- Very strong conceptual and analytical skills, including excellent facilitation, negotiation, and influencing skills.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills in English - report writing, and presentation skills, including the ability to present complex issues clearly and concisely and to motivate and persuade at high levels.
- Diplomacy, good interpersonal skills and ability to remain calm under pressure while not losing sight of strategic priorities.
- Proven initiative, flexibility and ability to prioritise and work to tight deadlines across multiple time zones.
Desirable attributes
- Strong understanding of the humanitarian sector.
- Experience working with foundations and philanthropy
- Fluency in Arabic, French or Spanish, in addition to English
- Experience of working in a virtual network or remote team

- As part of our flexible working policy, you will be free to work remotely for the majority of your time if you prefer. However, you will need to be able to be in London when required for events and in person meetings with partners and trustees, team planning days and other duties as part of our senior management team. This will be approximately two or three days per month on average and you will need to cover the cost of your travel.

The role
This key leadership role is at the core of a very successful and ambitious directorate, one that has seen some wonderful achievements across all income streams. This includes award-winning partnerships from the corporate sector, with partners including McDonalds, KPMG and The Premier League, in addition to a fantastic array of trusts and foundations, and strategic relationships with national bodies such as Arts Council of England and the Department of Education.
The Director of Development will continue our impressive growth trajectory and inspire a team of talented and ambitious fundraisers to success. You will work closely with the CEO and fellow members of the Senior Leadership Team, as well as being a key contact for delivery colleagues and programme leads.
About you
You will be an experienced and compelling leader, someone who can demonstrate a successful track record building and delivering fundraising strategies. You will need to show success in achieving income growth, and be experienced across several income streams, including managing strategic partnerships from the corporate world, working strategically with national bodies (e.g. Arts Council) and a deep understanding of fundraising campaigns. You will have exceptional communication skills across all audiences, including working at board level, and have an excellent understanding of financial planning and reporting. You will be a natural leader, who can engage, motivate and inspire the development department, and play a key part in building a strong and inclusive organisational culture, as part of our ED&I commitments.

The Role Within Unseen
Unseen provides support to people who have experienced Modern Slavery and Human trafficking and actively champions capturing voices in our work and providing development opportunities for those we are working with. Unseen also engages with a range of external partners to promote and facilitate person-centered and survivor informed responses to exploitation.
We develop evidence-based research and policy recommendations that are built from our support and collaboration work with survivors, key statutory service partners and NGOs. The Policy & Partnerships Officer will support the Policy & Research work of the organisation and support in the coordination of the Southwest Anti-Slavery Partnership to ensure delivery of real and tangible benefits for everyone involved, especially potential victims and survivors.
Purpose of the role
The Policy & Partnerships Officer will support in the delivery of Policy & Research projects and the collation of lived experience voices into our research work. You will work closely with the Policy & Partnerships Manager, the Survivor Involvement Coordinator, Senior Caseworkers and Unseen’s Survivor Consultant Volunteers and be responsible for the survivor consultant focus groups.
You will also support the Policy & Partnerships Manager in the coordination of the Southwest Anti-Slavery Partnership. Unseen facilitates the Avon & Somerset Anti-Slavery Partnership board, the Regional Anti-Slavery Partnership board and Bristol Modern Slavery Operational Partnership. We also support the chairs of other force area partnerships in the region and act as a point of contact in the Southwest, providing advice and guidance to partners and promoting proactive activity to eliminate Modern Slavery.
You will work closely with Unseen’s Policy & Research Team and have regular interactions with staff across Unseen’s wider teams including Support Services, Fundraising, Media & Communications and Operations.
