About The Role  

The Help for Heroes Community Development team are looking to recruit a team of Community Development Managers to assist in their reshaped participation and connection strategy. Using Asset Based Community Development, we seek to support the charity’s objective to enhance reach and positive impact for members of the Armed Forces Community facing challenges within their local communities.

As a Community Development Manager, you will lead and inspire a team of Community Builders, fostering collaboration, innovation and commitment to community impact working in an ABCD informed way. The aim is to connect and re-engage members of the AFC with the services at Help for Heroes and within the wider community. 

This is an exciting and varied role for dynamic and confident individuals, in which the right candidate will work directly within communities across the UK; bringing the Armed Forces Community together to improve wellbeing and make the community a better place to live. The main purpose of the role is to contribute to the leadership of an integrated, community development and hybrid volumizing offer which improves reach and sustained positive impact for members of the Armed Forces community. 

About You

You will be responsible for the effective line management of a dispersed community-based team and have experience managing co-designed/co-delivered community development initiatives. You will recognise the potential for growth and expansion within these communities and empower local people to exact changes focused on what’s important to them. 

You will have a genuine professional commitment to ABCD informed delivery, possess the capacity to work collaboratively with others and pilot projects for new community development initiatives by identifying and creating viable plans for growth and expansion to increase reach, impact and accessibility across the AFC.  

Key Responsibilities

• Coordinate locality-based Community Development related services 

• Provide line management for a regionally specific team of Community Builders, positively participating in line management meetings, annual appraisals, monthly and quarterly team meetings as required facilitating 1:1 and group line management supervision including volunteers 

• Act as safeguarding and health and safety lead for your regional team ensuring safe practice 

• Set clear objectives and performance expectations for Community Development colleagues/volunteers and programme activity

• Identify and leverage community assets and resources to support community development initiatives 

• Support the collation of evidence and impact data 

PLEASE NOTE: There is a requirement for frequent travel extensively within the regions allocated for this role. There will be evening and weekend working as required and flexibility in working hours is necessary to ensure a total of 70 hours is covered over a 2-week period so please take this into consideration before applying. 

We are looking for someone with the following: 

• Educated to degree level in a relevant field (Social Science, Community Development, Health and Social Care), related field, or hold an equivalent professional Community Development qualification. 

• Demonstrable experience of senior management/leadership of a Community Development team or integrated multi-disciplinary service informed by Community Development principles 

• Proficiency in managing projects from conception to completion  

• Outstanding written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex ideas clearly and persuasively 

About The Team 

You will work as part of the Community Development team; this newly formed team will approach working in defined localities using an asset based community development approach. Together the Community Development Managers and the Community Builders will strengthen local communities using resources and networks that are readily available. You will do this to proliferate opportunities for sustainable participation and engagement alongside a multi-disciplinary team in order to support the Armed Forces Community to live well after service.

• Ensuring monitoring systems are up to date and that development is ongoing

ABOUT THE ROLE

This strategic role will report to the Director of Operations and will be responsible for overseeing and enhancing operational functions across our businesses, focusing on fostering a positive working environment and employee experience, while supporting our social impact and business growth. You will share SCN’s ambitions to transform funding for grassroots organisations and coalitions by reimagining fundraising, removing structural barriers and encouraging institutional funders to support community interests. 

This is a great opportunity for someone who would like to support us in delivering our vision. The ideal candidate will have experience of operations, HR & risk management and will have a passion to make a difference. You will work with the Director of Ops on streamlining operational systems and processes, compliance and risk management, policy oversight, resource planning, and HR and payroll oversight.  Crucially, you will help us develop our new Employer of Record Service; the Social Change Hive. Working closely with the CEO and the Head of Business Development, you will ensure all our HR processes, systems and reporting structures are operational for our clients and our employees.

The role would suit someone who loves operations, HR and risk management and be comfortable in a startup environment. The role will involve working across the businesses and working closely with the Head of Programmes and the Head of Governance, Risk and Innovation. You will also be managing our Operations Assistant – with a view to expanding capacity in the team over the year. 

While this is maternity leave cover,  this function is growing so there is lots of opportunity to evolve responsibilities as the business needs change over the 12 months.

The role would suit someone who loves operations, HR and risk management. The role will involve working across the businesses and working closely with the Head of Programmes and the Head of Governance and Innovation. 

SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

You will be a detailed oriented person, proactive, well organised and excellent at managing various tasks and projects at the same time, with excellent project management and people skills. We are a trauma informed organisation, and while you may not be trauma trained –  you will need to understand the need for a human touch within the systems and processes we hold (we will also provide training on our approach).  As part of the role, you must understand HR regulation, contract management and general operational functions. We are looking for someone who is happy working on their own initiative with energy, enthusiasm and good humour, with a can-do attitude. You must be comfortable with working with external groups of people from varied backgrounds alongside our incredible team. Our work is involved and changes quickly. So the role would suit someone who is resilient and comfortable re-prioritising when things shift quickly. 

Person specification includes: 

• Experience of working in an operations role
• Experience of managing systems (CRM & project management) & resource management tools (i.e. capacity tracking)
• Experience of reporting on operational functions such as HR and contracting
• Experience of supporting HR functions, including developing and reviewing policies

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

As the Senior Operations manager, you will be responsible for supporting the Director of Ops in ensuring we have efficient systems and processes across the organisation and providing support on contracting needs for the businesses. Occasionally we are asked to help support the operational development of our clients. The role will involve:

• Operations oversight (40%)
  • To take a systematic view of all operations across the business and make sure we have the correct operational tools, systems and processes in place to support our internal needs as well as delivery of work to our clients. Lead on designing and embedding effective tools and systems to support this and ensure there are up to date process maps to support the team in using them. 
  • Regular reporting on these systems to the senior management team to support business management and strategic decisions 
  • Working closely with heads of each function to ensure we have the right processes in place that support the team in delivering their work 
  • Ensuring we have the right policies in place for effective management of the business 
  • Responsible for overseeing all contracting for clients and employees
  • Oversight and drafting of all client contracts – working with the Director of Ops to ensure contract templates are up to date and in line with any business shifts and fit for purpose.
  • Managing any contracting risks and making sure all contracts are active and not expired. Setting up and maintaining reporting systems to ensure this information is fed back to the relevant teams and senior management.
  • Addressing any questions from the team and clients on contracts 
  • Support the Head of Governance, Risk and Innovation to manage mitigations for any emerging risks, document any incidents, have effective reporting mechanisms in place, including updating the risk register
     

• HR and payroll (40%)
  • Support the HR element within the development and delivery of Hive, our Employer of Record payroll service. 
  • Lead on recruitment and induction processes for the business and clients. This includes ensuring the processes are fit for purpose and efficient for the business, having the right resources in place to support the team and clients with understanding and managing recruitment and induction, managing onboarding of all new starters.
  • Oversight of all contracting and HR obligations for our employees, including clients using the Hive service – onboarding, exit processes and everything in between 
  • Oversight of all processes in Hive to ensure smooth. operations. With Hive being new, and growing, processes and policies will need to be reviewed and adapted to Hive’s needs.
  • Setup and maintain reporting systems that allow risk management and managing end of contract responsibilities.
  • Manage all HR queries and issues for the team and clients. 
  • Oversight of monthly payroll and salary sacrifice schemes.
     
• Management and Teamwork (10%)
  • Management of the Operations team: Managing capacity and workload, objective setting and development.
  • Work with the rest of the team to ensure there is sharing of knowledge to improve systems and practice across all services, making sure the services are aligned.

About you  

They are looking for a brilliant major gifts fundraiser to join one of the UK’s best-loved nature charities to grow their network of high-net-worth individuals for Wales supporting their work in turning around the nature and climate emergencies. This is a brand-new role that will support their Welsh Trust’s Chief Executives, Senior Leadership Teams and their  Wales Director in developing long-lasting partnerships that deliver a stepchange for nature’s recovery in Wales.  

You will be a confident and engaging major gifts fundraiser, with the ability to express their case’s for support in tackling the nature and climate emergencies, both through their work on nature’s restoration on the ground, and through their influencing, policy and campaigning work. You will be highly experienced in initiating and developing mutually beneficial relationships with individuals to achieve fundraising targets, with a proven track record of securing significant unrestricted funds.

I am delighted to be working with a fantastic charity in search of an Interim Finance Manager. This is a full-time, London based hybrid role for 6-months. As Finance Manager you will have responsibility for primarily the management accounts of the Charity. The Finance Manager will work closely with the Senior Finance Manager, the Head of Foundation and the rest of the Senior Leadership team to ensure that the Charity is financially controlled and effectively and efficiently managed in all areas of operation.

The Finance Manager is ‘hands-on’ leading and managing on the Foundation targets set out within the Foundation’s five year ‘Grow & Improve’ strategy. He/she works across all of the Foundation’s operations team and the Business team to ensure that all parts of the Charity are well managed and financially controlled, building the base on which the Foundation can continue to thrive and grow.

Key Roles and Responsibilities

You will be responsible for the preparation of the monthly management accounts on a timely basis and assistance with the timely preparation of the Finance Report for the regular Trustee meetings.

Assist to ensure that the Charity complies with all financial, reporting and record keeping requirements.

Assist with compliance issues with the Charity Commission and Companies House and associated regulations.

Support the development and implementation of the ‘Grow and Improve’ strategy, in close partnership with the Senior Finance Manager, Head of Foundation and the Senior Leadership Team with an ability to challenge ideas.

A Finance expert, who can support peers and staff to develop their financial competencies, while ensuring staff feel valued and respected to excel in their roles.
