Job purpose:

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone enthusiastic about driving change to join the Huntington’s Disease Association, proactively working to advocate for and improve care for people with this rare neurological condition. 
 

As Policy and Public Affairs Officer, you will work closely with our Head of Public Affairs to influence decision makers in the NHS, and UK and Welsh governments. You will be joining the charity at an exciting time as we develop a new influencing strategy. You will help shape this work, while having opportunity to work with external stakeholders, including health professionals, civil servants and other charities, all whilst developing your skillset and policy and public affairs experience. We have had success over the past year in parliament in highlighting the issues faced by people living with Huntington’s disease, and we are now focused on building this work to help drive policy change.
 

This is a remote role, working from home mostly, but will require travel to London and other locations across England and Wales (which the charity will cover expenses for).

About the opportunity:

The Tutor Communications Officer will work closely with the Communications and Media Manager to support all aspects of stakeholder communications and engagement at Action Tutoring. The role will require you to develop engaging and motivational content when communicating with our volunteer tutor network, schools and other stakeholders.

The Tutor Communications Officer will develop their data management and analytical skills, when evaluating the impact of communications and maintaining subscriber data. They will also develop detailed knowledge of our e-communications software (Campaign Monitor) to create precise and engaging email campaigns with accurate segmentation of recipients.

About the role

As Campaigns and Communications Officer, you will play a key role in building the profile of Results UK, and using communications to support the development of successful campaigning activities for our grassroots advocates. You will have at least a year’s experience within the broad field of campaigning and communications, excellent written English, awareness of how written and visual communications can support organisational values, and experience of managing digital communications. This role will work across issue areas and contribute to advocacy through effective public messaging via our website, social media and publications. 

This role is available 5 days per week on a permanent basis and will provide good opportunities for further developing your communications, campaigning and advocacy skills; gaining a deep understanding of international development issues; and experience of using communications to support the achievement of advocacy goals. We are looking for candidates with a keen interest in and passion for international development and for overcoming poverty, inequality and oppression.

• Support the development and delivery of our monthly cycle of grassroots campaigns through effective communications, including regular emails, campaign materials and conference calls.

• Work closely with colleagues in the Parliamentary Advocacy and Policy Advocacy Teams to plan campaigns and communications activities in line with our advocacy strategies.

• Work with the Head of Campaigns and other staff to support the delivery of events such as the annual Results National Conference and other advocacy and training events.

• Lead on the development, delivery and monitoring of Results’ social media engagement, and manage our day-to-day social media outputs to ensure a strong contribution to our advocacy messages.

• Manage and monitor the Results website and create content, including action materials, social media assets, campaign newsletters and fundraising content.

• Coordinate the design and production of Results publications to ensure quality control and a consistent house style in line with branding guidelines, including commissioning consultants where appropriate.

Salary 

This role is graded at Results Professional Level 2 with a salary of £32,142 per annum. 

Hours of work

This is a full-time post with a working week of 35 hours (excluding breaks). These hours will be worked as agreed with the line manager but some flexibility may be required. There is no paid overtime, but Results UK has a TOIL policy for all staff. 

Line manager

Annual leave

Notice period and probationary period

Role overview

The Head of Marketing and Communications is responsible for the strategic direction of the BSA’s marketing and communications activity. Working with senior colleagues, you will develop and oversee the marketing and communications strategy for the BSA overall, as well as some of its high-profile programmes. You will have responsibility for the full spectrum of the BSA’s communications function, from digital marketing to traditional media relations, and for communications output across earned, owned and bought media platforms, leading a small team to deliver against the goals set at both a programme and organisational level.

You will oversee a small, centralised communications budget (<£100,000) in addition to the communications budgets attached to core programmes, including the British Science Festival and CREST Awards. You will ensure that our communications strategy meets the needs of our audiences; you will grow the reach and impact of our communications activities and deliver action plans that support the KPIs of our programmes, including ensuring we achieve targets agreed with our funders.

Key responsibilities

The main responsibilities of this role are to: 

Leadership

• Lead and inspire the Communications team, with line-management responsibility for three manager-level roles.
• Foster a collaborative, values-driven working environment for the Communications team across the organisation, including with Fundraising, Policy, and Programme teams.
• Work closely with the Director of Development & External Relations and Chief Executive on key strategic and emerging issues such as stakeholder-engagement, thought leadership, and crisis communications.

External communications

• Develop and deliver a bold and exciting marketing and communications strategy for the organisation, based on our strategy and business plan. 
• Have overall accountability for the marketing and communications output for all BSA programmes and their respective brands, including the British Science Festival, CREST Awards, British Science Week, For Thought, and others.
• Have oversight of the BSA’s corporate communications strategy and BSA brand, offering support and leadership to colleagues on the delivery of the strategy.
• Have oversight of British Science Week, including planning and delivery of the annual PR campaign, as well as supporting the Education and Community Engagement teams on the programme content (e.g., activity packs, grants).
• Act as the BSA’s lead on messaging and tone of voice, ensuring consistency and appropriate use across all communications output.
• Lead our engagement with media, journalists, influencers and other relevant stakeholders to raise the profile of the BSA and its programmes.
• Set the direction and maintain oversight of the BSA’s digital communications output, including our websites and social media channels, supporting colleagues to develop and deliver innovative content ideas.
• Lead on the evaluation and impact reporting of all communications activity, including providing reports to the BSA’s Council and other senior stakeholders / funders.

• Support colleagues across the organisation especially at busy times or on specific areas of expertise.
• Support on internal communications, such as coordinating internal opportunities to promote collaborative working across the organisation.
• Other duties as reasonably required by your line manager.

About you

• The Head of Marketing and Communications role would suit someone who has experience in delivering broad, multi-channel marketing and communications campaigns for a range of audiences. 
• We’d expect the successful candidate to have extensive experience in communications, including media relations, digital comms, and stakeholder influencing. You should be an excellent storyteller, with an eye for a compelling story or narrative.
• You do not need to have worked in a science-based organisation previously, but it would be beneficial to have an understanding of the UK’s research and/or education and youth landscape.
• You should have experience of leading high-performing teams by motivating them to achieve and exceed the expectations set for them.

OVERVIEW OF THE ROLE

The Hospital IDVA (HIDVA) will be part of our dynamic, responsive and highly regarded HIDVA team, providing excellent trauma informed support, crisis intervention, advocacy and advice to survivors in hospitals and health settings, both patients and staff Impacted by domestic abuse.

The HIDVA will also provide advice and training to hospital staff and ensure robust referral pathways are established within the different departments.

We offer an out of hours phone service (Friday evenings and weekend days) together with on-site cover within the hospitals during important events where domestic abuse has been shown to increase, such as Christmas, Bank Holidays, Valentine’s Day and Football Tournaments. The post holder will be expected to participate in the out of hours rota, TOIL and flexible working to recompense for this, as well as overtime for bank holidays/ special events if required on site.

The HIDVA will be based in the Darent Valley Hospital, Dartford, and will be expected to visit other hospitals across the trust from time to time to attend meetings, deliver training and cover other team members. There is also flexibility to work from the Rising Sun main office in Canterbury to attend team meetings, supervision and training.

We are looking for someone with an excellent understanding of domestic abuse and its effects on women and children, who is experienced in supporting survivors with varying needs such as, drugs/alcohol, mental health, homelessness and patients with no recourse to public funds.  Experience with Elderly People, Dementia Sufferers and their Carers or knowledge of midwifery would be desirable, although not essential. 

You will report to the HIDVA Manager and receive training and an induction into both the hospital work and Rising Sun’s wider services. If unqualified, we will support you to complete a formal domestic abuse qualification.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Support to Survivors

• Be present in the hospitals daily to respond to referrals or requests for domestic abuse advice and to meet with survivors. 
• Ensure that survivors are aware of their rights and options and explain the effectiveness of criminal and civil sanctions available to them.
• Produce safety plans with the client, enabling them to assess and manage their own safety.
• Carry out needs assessments, including DASH (Domestic Abuse, Stalking and Honour Based Violence) risk assessment, to effectively deliver holistic, survivor centred support.
• Work in partnership with hospital staff, safeguarding departments and other services e.g. the police, housing, social services, mental health (amongst others) to advocate for survivors and complete referrals to ongoing support services where appropriate.
• Attend Multi Agency Risk Assessment Conference (MARAC) meetings and refer service users to MARAC when appropriate.
• Assist clients in gaining access to solicitors, benefits agencies, housing departments, education, medical treatment, counselling, support networks, community groups, employment support etc.
• Recognise, respect and address the needs of survivors who face particular barriers when seeking access to services, including those from minority groups or with protected characteristics
• Safeguard the welfare of children, young people and adults at risk; working within safeguarding policies, Child Protection Procedures and local procedures for safeguarding adults at risk.
• Maintain accurate client records, outcome and monitoring data. Prepare information or reports for the monitoring and evaluation of the service.
• Complete daily ward rounds to raise awareness and identify any potential DA support needs for staff or patients.
• Participate in an out of hours rota, providing an on-call phone support service to hospital staff on Friday evenings and weekend days as timetabled.

Partnership Working and Training

• Promote the HIDVA service in the hospitals and build positive relationships with hospital staff, in particular safeguarding teams and clinicians.
• Attend safeguarding, mental health and frequent attenders meetings to screen patients for potential domestic abuse and provide advice to staff.  Together with any other helpful meetings that may arise.
• Deliver training to staff in various health settings across Kent to raise awareness of domestic abuse, safe enquiry and appropriate responding.

General

• Maintain commitment to and work in line with the Rising Sun Framework.
• Uphold the rights of women, children and young people who have experienced domestic abuse, and proactively assess the gender specific, trauma informed needs and the safety of children and women to ensure that any risks/needs identified are addressed, having full regard to Rising Sun Safeguarding Children policy and Safeguarding Adults policy
• Ensure confidentiality on all appropriate matters, and adhere to the requirements of the Data Protection Act.

• A recognised Social Worker qualification and current registration with Social Work England/ Scottish Social Services Council/Social Care Wales/Northern Ireland Social Care Council

The European Network on Statelessness (ENS) is seeking a Legal Officer (10-month fixed-term contract with potential for extension) to play a key role in enabling us to fulfil our mission to break the cycle of statelessness in Europe and realise everyone’s right to a nationality. - Identify, synthesise and summarise complex health economics literature, using your critical thinking skills to accurately present findings in reports, varying formats appropriate to the anticipated audience, to facilitate evidence-based policy and to inform strategic decision making
- Be at the leading edge of health economics, ensuring specialist knowledge is kept up to date by being aware of developments in the field of health economics, attending training courses and participating in other knowledge sharing events or networks.

About you
You are passionate about making a difference for people affected by dementia and understand the vital role credible and robust evidence can play in making this happen.
You are:

- Experienced in using health economics o inform internal and external decision making and achieve results, with the ability to lead and manage data projects simultaneously using project management approaches
- Identify, synthesise and summarise complex cost effectiveness literature and present findings in reports, varying formats appropriate to different audiences, to facilitate evidence informed decision making
- Confident in navigating the health, care, economics and system analysis research environment and can work with a range of researchers, think tanks and other suppliers to gather and generate credible evidence
- An opportunity spotter, able to work independently and collaboratively across internal and external boundaries to ensure our evidence is maximised to inform decisions and solutions that address the biggest challenges facing dementia across the UK
- Confident to hold others to account to ensure decisions and interpretation of dementia and the system are based on the highest quality of dementia evidence.
