Turn2us is a national charity tackling poverty and the structural causes of financial insecurity. We work with people who have current or recent experience of financial hardship and partners to provide people in financial crisis with the means and agency to get back on their feet, build resilience, move forward with their lives and thrive.
As an equal opportunities employer, we are committed to equity, diversity, inclusion and belonging and the value people from different backgrounds bring to a team. If, like us, you believe everyone has the right to have enough to live on, and you are ambitious about eradicating poverty, join us and build your career with a charity dedicated to ensuring dignity and equity for all.
Our vision is that everyone in the UK has financial security so they can thrive.
Our purpose is to offer support to those of us facing financial shocks and together challenge the systems and perceptions that cause financial insecurity.
As a member of the Senior Leadership Team, the Director of People and Culture will work in a spirit of mutual accountability with fellow directors, taking strategic leadership of Turn2us’s People and Culture Directorate. You’ll have responsibility for strengthening our culture and supporting all our people managers to attract, develop and retain colleagues who are committed to our values and guiding principles.
You will take proactive leadership of our Equity, Diversity, Inclusion and Belonging (EDIB) work across the organisation so that we can become more inclusive and diverse, as well as oversee our approach to co-production, making sure that we centre the voices and insights of people with experience of financial insecurity in the design of all our work. Importantly, you will also provide rigorous oversight of our approach to safeguarding and our broader approaches to governance, risk, and compliance across the group – which includes our wholly owned care home business, Elizabeth Finn Homes.
This is a challenging but immensely rewarding role that will work across all parts of our organisation, helping to shape how we work internally and externally, and make a genuine lasting difference to people facing financial insecurities.
About You
We are looking for an authentic and inspiring leader who brings significant experience of developing and implementing people and culture strategies, and of aligning those strategies to the organisation’s vision and values. You will share our unwavering commitment to EDIB, and bring a track record of driving meaningful change within an organisation so that it can become more inclusive and diverse.
You will bring high levels of compassion, empathy and emotional intelligence, able to build trust at all levels while being comfortable with constructive debate. You will have a curious mindset, continuously seeking out new learning opportunities for yourself and our organisation, and an enthusiasm for building new networks.
While experience of working within a charity would be beneficial, we are also keen to hear from candidates who bring transferable experience from other sectors. We know that Turn2us will benefit from leaders with new perspectives and ways of thinking, so we’re actively encouraging broad interest from impactful leaders who bring transferable skills. More importantly is a clear alignment with our organisational values and a passion for supporting people facing financial hardship.
We are always eager to receive approaches from people with lived experience of financial insecurity. If you can demonstrate a clear commitment to our values and ethos, and a deep personal commitment to our vision, we’d love to hear from you.

ABOUT THE ROLE
We are looking for a community organiser with a strong project management background, or a project manager who has trained as a community organiser to help us grow a new project, The Help Desk, while overseeing our Open Collective service. Open Collective is a platform which enables groups to transparently and collaboratively manage their funds. We fiscally host around 600 groups using OC – they are supported by a Programmes Assistant, who would be managed by this role. This will give you oversight of the service and provide you valuable insights into the needs of groups.
The Help Desk is a new project in SCN which will support our growing community of grassroots groups and movements within our ecosystem. Over the next 4 years, we are planning to build a strong, vibrant and supportive community amongst our groups, with access to resources, training and mentorship/networking and fundraising opportunities. You will be responsible for project managing the build-out of the Help Desk and developing and organising the SCN community. This includes monitoring progress and reporting against the funding secured. While some plans and activities have already begun, you would be expected to further shape the vision of the Help Desk, pivoting in response to feedback and learnings.
You will work closely across the Delivery Team to ensure that the Help Desk is relevant to the different types of groups we host, as well as the Head of Programmes, who you will support in consolidating insights for sharing with partners. Together with the Business Development team, you will also be responsible for exploring the income streams required for the following 5 years. You will also be managing the overall project budget alongside managing mentors, staff, volunteers, interns, and leaders, where appropriate.
ABOUT YOU
The role would suit someone that understands the needs of community groups and the pressure and challenges they face as they scale their impact, while also having agile and creative project management skills. A large part of the role is getting to know the groups and to support both the development of network weaving across the groups and building out the resources they need. Because of this, you will enjoy connecting with people from different backgrounds, and have good problem-solving skills.
As you will have oversight of our Open Collective service, you will need to have some understanding of how community groups could use tech platforms to support their infrastructure and how this can relate to their impact. You will also be managing one member of staff and while you will be given training and support, some management experience is desirable.
The ideal candidate will have a positive attitude and be open to learning and growing with us as we build our programmes and services. On top of seeking out partnerships and opportunities that will help SCN better support its community groups, you will be regularly holding spaces for groups to connect and feeding back any relevant insights to the team. You should have a good understanding of the power dynamics and community trauma that exists at this level of organising and be able to act as a bridge between SCN and the social impact of the groups.
As a small team working directly with the groups and to a project plan, you will be outgoing, proactive, very organised and good at managing various tasks at the same time. You will be keen to make an impact in a small team and be hungry for searching out opportunities to develop yourself, the Help Desk and the business.
SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
Person specification includes:
- Experience of community organising or development within a community or network, ideally with people from varied backgrounds
- Strong and agile project management skills
- Exceptional organisational skills and attention to detail
- Strong and creative problem-solving skills
- Experience of organising resources for both digital and physical spaces
- Demonstrable experience of facilitation and event planning
- Ability to increase community activity and engagement
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Experience with line management, and ideally matrix management
- Highly proficient in Microsoft Office, GSuite, online booking and meeting systems
- An understanding and/or experience of working with project management software and CRMs
- An interest in social change and innovation
We will give you full training on our internal systems and processes and other methodologies that will be relevant to your role.

As Programme and Community Development Lead, you will be responsible for supporting and building out the community of grassroots groups and movements across all of SCN. This may involve organising events, further developing our communications, seeking out and maintaining partnerships with relevant service providers. Maudsley Charity – Team Support Officer and PA
Location: Denmark Hill, London (and home working)
Salary: £33,000 per annum, plus excellent benefits
Contract: Permanent
Our small, ambitious team works in a collaborative and supportive way. A big focus of the role is prioritisation and planning, so you’ll support the Director of Programmes, Head of Impact & Effectiveness and wider team to prioritise, forward plan, manage diaries and prepare for meetings. This is a great role for someone wanting to develop their administrative experience and exposure to board and executive level working. You will have responsibility for supporting a Trustee level grant making committee. You’ll get exposure to the strategic overview of the Charity and insight into managing teams, grant-making and charity operations. You’ll quickly see the impact you can make within the team to improve our effectiveness and ways of working; and what we’re working to achieve as a charity.
Maudsley Charity works primarily with South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust and the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology and Neuroscience, King’s College London, as well as a range of voluntary and community organisations to fund ideas, big and small, that drive service improvement and support people who experience mental illness.
The Charity operates primarily within the four boroughs served by South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust (Croydon, Lambeth, Lewisham and Southwark), but the work we fund has the potential for wider impact at both national and international levels, through the sharing of the outcomes with the wider mental health community. The Charity is committed to ongoing development and learning about how to make an impact. Find out more about our change model that underpins our way of working.
We are based in our vibrant offices in the Ortus Centre, Denmark Hill; a great place to work and hold events. We offer a friendly working culture, with the following benefits for our staff (just to name a few):
- Hybrid working, 2-3 days spent with the team at Ortus/onsite each week and 2-3 days at home/offsite.
- 25 days annual leave, with a further one day after 3 years’ service and a further one day after 5 years’ service. Plus, additional non-working office closure days over the Christmas period.
- Pension scheme with up to 6% employer contribution, subject to a minimum 3% employee contribution.
Maudsley Charity is an equal opportunities employer and makes no discrimination on the grounds of age, disability, gender reassignment, marriage and civil partnership, pregnancy and maternity, race, religion or belief and sex. We are committed to offering interviews to candidates who meet the role requirements and have lived experience of mental illness.

Animal welfare is in crisis. Could you help us stem the tide of cats and dogs being abandoned or given up for adoption?
If you have experience of working in the community, ideally with young people and marginalised groups, we have a fantastic opportunity to manage and develop our education and outreach work.
The pandemic pet boom, poor breeding practices and the rising cost of living mean that rescue centres, like Bath Cats and Dogs Home, are contending with unprecedented numbers of animals with complex medical and behavioural problems.
But it doesn’t need to be this way. By working in the community, we can address the problems before they reach crisis point.
We believe that every cat and dog should have the opportunity to enjoy a healthy life and a happy home. If pets are wanted and cared for then we’ll help them remain in their loving homes, which is why we’re expanding our outreach services, giving support to struggling pet owners when it is most needed.
The Education and Outreach Manager will work directly with the Chief Executive and Senior Leadership Team to manage existing projects and to shape and develop new initiatives. You’ll work in partnership with education providers, community groups and charities to ensure that Bath Cats and Dogs Home’s expertise and resources are directed to those most in need, and where we’ll have the biggest impact for animal welfare.
In return you’ll be part of a passionate and driven team. We commit to being kind, inspirational, dedicated, open and honest, and expert. If our values match your own, and you are inspired by the work that we do, then we’d love to hear from you.
