About The Role
The Help for Heroes Community Development team are looking to recruit a team of Community Development Managers to assist in their reshaped participation and connection strategy. Using Asset Based Community Development, we seek to support the charity’s objective to enhance reach and positive impact for members of the Armed Forces Community facing challenges within their local communities.
As a Community Development Manager, you will lead and inspire a team of Community Builders, fostering collaboration, innovation and commitment to community impact working in an ABCD informed way. The aim is to connect and re-engage members of the AFC with the services at Help for Heroes and within the wider community.
This is an exciting and varied role for dynamic and confident individuals, in which the right candidate will work directly within communities across the UK; bringing the Armed Forces Community together to improve wellbeing and make the community a better place to live. The main purpose of the role is to contribute to the leadership of an integrated, community development and hybrid volumizing offer which improves reach and sustained positive impact for members of the Armed Forces community.
About You
You will be responsible for the effective line management of a dispersed community-based team and have experience managing co-designed/co-delivered community development initiatives. You will recognise the potential for growth and expansion within these communities and empower local people to exact changes focused on what’s important to them.
You will have a genuine professional commitment to ABCD informed delivery, possess the capacity to work collaboratively with others and pilot projects for new community development initiatives by identifying and creating viable plans for growth and expansion to increase reach, impact and accessibility across the AFC.
Key Responsibilities

Coordinate locality-based Community Development related services

Provide line management for a regionally specific team of Community Builders, positively participating in line management meetings, annual appraisals, monthly and quarterly team meetings as required facilitating 1:1 and group line management supervision including volunteers

PLEASE NOTE: There is a requirement for frequent travel extensively within the regions allocated for this role. We are looking for someone with the following:

Educated to degree level in a relevant field (Social Science, Community Development, Health and Social Care), related field, or hold an equivalent professional Community Development qualification.

Demonstrable experience of senior management/leadership of a Community Development team or integrated multi-disciplinary service informed by Community Development principles

About The Team
You will work as part of the Community Development team; this newly formed team will approach working in defined localities using an asset based community development approach. Together the Community Development Managers and the Community Builders will strengthen local communities using resources and networks that are readily available. You will do this to proliferate opportunities for sustainable participation and engagement alongside a multi-disciplinary team in order to support the Armed Forces Community to live well after service.

Key tasks
- Strategic membership activities including:

The post-holder will play a key role within the Development team, maintaining the integrity of the College’s alumni database that underpins every aspect of the team’s work. The post holder will shape and deliver the College’s prospect research strategy, managing the prospect pipeline and supporting the fundraising programme.
Key Responsibilities
- Update, enhance and improve the alumni database (Raiser’s Edge) on a regular basis, ensuring that information is entered consistently, accurately and in a timely fashion.
- Maintain the integrity of the database, including importing and exporting data to/from RE, managing and uploading current student and alumni data from the central University database (CamSIS), College publication returns, the internet and other updates.
- Liaise with Cambridge University Development & Alumni Relations (CUDAR) on a regular basis to exchange updated alumni details.
- Work with the Director and Deputy Director to manage the prospect pipeline, including conducting initial research into potential supporters.
- Produce detailed alumni profiles and briefings for the Director of Development and the Master for key meetings and events.
- Accurately record all gifts, pledges and legacies on the database and ensure procedures are effective and up-to-date.
- Ensure Gift Aid agreements are correctly recorded and renewed as appropriate.
- Prepare donors’ lists for Governing Body, Council and relevant College publications.
- Work alongside the Deputy Development Director to complete the Annual Development Questionnaire (ADQ).
- Conduct research to find lost alumni and re-establish contact via new address and email details.
- Deal with returned mail in a timely and organised manner, and with email “unsubscribes” and bounce-backs.
- Handle the notification of deceased members by recording information on the database, liaising with family members regarding obituaries for inclusion in the College Magazine.
- Help devise new systems and processes to enable the work of the office to be carried out with ever greater efficiency and effectiveness.

About the Role
Experience in a VCSE leadership position is essential. The role offers an excellent opportunity to immerse yourself in a fast-growing organisation with the support and backing of a forward-thinking trustee board. You will ultimately act as the gatekeeper for all new business (bids, tenders, commissioned work) and work with the Head of Projects & Fundraising to identify and build strong ongoing partner relationships. Therefore, the successful candidate must possess the people skills to build strong connections within the existing team and be able to represent the whole charity when presenting our service.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensuring a joined-up approach between communities and programme teams leads to the delivery of a seamless journey for men, from initial awareness of their mental health needs to attendance at a circle, whether online or in-person.
- Develop, implement and continually appraise the plan for ongoing service growth – geographically and through pursuing and building new partnerships.
- Ensure that raising awareness of issues relating to men’s mental health remains a golden thread running through the charity’s entire work and communications, irrespective of whether it results in men accessing Mentell’s services or those of another organisation.
- Work with the Head of Projects & Fundraising and Community Manager to ensure a pipeline of funding from grants, philanthropy, donors and community fundraising.
- Oversee and increase the impact of effective and innovative communications via website, social media and hard-copy promotional materials.
- Take responsibility for all aspects of charity and other statutory compliance.
What We’re Looking For

The successful candidate will need to work closely with their peers to ensure that CRUK has the maximum impact across all their audiences to improve cancer outcomes.
About the team
The Health Information team work to inform and engage the public with information on cancer prevention, early diagnosis and screening. We do this using evidence and look for opportunities to reach those who need it most. We use our knowledge and communications expertise to guide and shape activity across the charity including policy, partnerships and fundraising.
What will I be doing?
Oversee the provision of high quality, accessible and evidence-based health information including maintaining a good understanding of best practice
Provide strategic direction for CRUK's health information priority topics to maximise impact across public facing channels including but not limited to health marketing, communications and partnerships
Act as a senior subject matter expert on health information and use of evidence, advising senior internal and external stakeholders (Executive Board, other charities, researchers)
