Finance Manager required for an independent regulator who offer fantastic benefits such as 32 days holiday and highly flexible work pattern - either fully remote or 1 day per week in their central London office!

It's a great role that focuses on management accounting and business partnering activities, across 4 key directorates, managing a small team of one.

Key areas of responsibility will include;

• Leading on management accounting activities, with a particular focus on forecasting and risk. Undertaking an initial review of all budget heads, highlighting major variances, and ensuring no mis- postings have arisen
• Collect and collate commentaries from budget holders for the preparation of a monthly finance report for the management board, to include a commentary on cash and outstanding debtors and creditors
• Supporting budget managers, develop relationships and provide an effective business partnering service, responding promptly to queries
• Training budget holders on relevant financial matters and processes
• Develop systems and processes, enhancing the management accounts with meaningful and informative narratives on financial information for budget holders
• Develop/maintain the cashflow model ensuring projections are accurate
• Oversight of fee invoices ensuring payment received within established credit terms
• Update the fixed asset register on a monthly basis
• Line management of Finance Officer
• Adhoc project work for Head of Finance and Governance and the Director of Resources

In order to be successful in the role, we are looking for a qualified accountant or actively studying towards a financial qualification. You will be confident in preparing management accounts and working with budget holders to highlight risk/opportunities. Be proactive, able to identify and put forward ideas for improvements to systems.

Furthermore, you will have excellent communication skills, and be able to develop strong relationships with your budget holders.

In this role you’ll be both strategic and hands-on, solely managing the financial controls for this small charity with a £350k annual turnover.  You will support the Director and senior management team through your management of financial processes, policy and planning.

This will include using accountancy software to process income and expenditure, producing management accounts for the senior management team and Board, and ensuring the charity reports to its key funders, including Arts Council England. 

You’ll process payroll for our small team of 6 employees, taking care of liaison with HMRC as well as handling external audit and company filing.

Unfazed by working mostly alone, you’ll be incredibly organised with your time and workload to ensure processes are handled in a timely and accurate fashion. Ideally, you’ll be passionate about the work that we do both as a professional arts organisation and also as a small charity based in Bedfordshire with altruistic values.

You’ll have experience of working with small organisations and charities, knowledgeable about the areas of financial control that you will be our expert on.

The role is an employee position for one day per week, however we are open to discuss flexibility of working hours and the possibility of freelance working with the successful candidate.

What's the Role?

The Senior Management Accountant will be reporting into the Head of Finance, your main responsibilities would be:

• Lead and manage a team of management accountants, providing guidance, support, and motivation.
• Act as the first line reviewer for the work produced by the management accounting team; such as monthly management accounts, budget builds, costing schedules
• Oversee the timely completion of all management accounting tasks and projects, such as pack to Trustees

About the role

Purpose of the role:

The purpose of the role is focused on generating and developing monthly management accounts information and providing insight and direction to the Director General and Leadership Team. We’re looking for a Data Officer to join our growing Young Sounds team. You will fulfil an important cross-organisational role, working closely with the team to collate and analyse the data collected through all our programmes.

About Young Sounds UK

Young Sounds exists because musical talent is everywhere but opportunity isn’t: family finances and other obstacles too often get in the way. We’re here to change this in two key ways:

• We support young musicians from low-income families with funding and other help;

• We support music education through training, advocacy and research.

We became an Arts Council England National Portfolio Organisation in April 2023 and also joined an expanded cohort of National Youth Music Organisations (NYMOs). We currently support around 900 individual young people across the UK every year and demand for our support is increasing. The Data Officer will fulfil an important cross-organisational role, working closely with the team to collate and analyse the data collected through all our programmes. Young Sounds is a reflective organisation. We’ve always invested time and effort in seeking out, understanding and demonstrating the difference our programmes are making. Since 2023 we have committed to evaluating all three of our main programmes, each of which tackles a key barrier to young people’s musical progression. • Developing quality proposals through effective proposal management, working closely with Hope for Justice programmes, MEL and finance teams.
• Managing grants/awards to ensure that Hope for Justice is complying with donor contractual obligations, including collating and submitting technical and financial reports.

The ideal candidate will be an outstanding communicator, relationship-builder and problem-solver to take us to the next level in the way we interact with grant-making bodies. They will have expertise in written, numerical and analytical skills, as well as a strong track record in securing medium to large-size grants from trusts, foundations and institutional donors. They will have experience in building complex bids, engaging in negotiations with donors and partners, and project and programme design. They will have the ability to liaise confidently and diplomatically with donors and colleagues globally.

What you’ll do​

As an Area Manager, your role is to increase our partner numbers and support engagement with our existing schools and colleges, helping them to make the most of the Unifrog platform. Excellent customer service is at the heart of what we do, and you will make sure that all interactions with Unifrog are positive and successful. 

You will cover your own area of the country - the Midlands and East Anglia region - with occasional travel to these locations (on average 1-2 days per week).

Your key responsibilities will include:

• Meeting with potential partners at schools and colleges (in person and via video call). You’ll demonstrate the Unifrog platform, convey our mission to level the playing field for students and look to secure their ongoing subscription.
• Supporting schools with constructing their long and short-term careers strategy, then reporting on the impact of the Unifrog platform each academic year.
• Maintaining outstanding relationships with existing partner schools, which includes  delivering remote and in-person training to ensure they make the most of the platform.
• Developing an excellent knowledge of Careers Education, Information, Advice and Guidance (CEIAG) within the UK and consulting with schools on how to support their students.
• Proactively working to foster a sense of community amongst our Unifrog partners and always thinking about how we can promote the sharing and embedding of Unifrog best practice across our partner schools.
• Achieving sky-high resubscription rates.
• Working collaboratively with Unifrog Account Managers to devise strategies for success with schools and colleges.

Responsible for providing end-to-end resourcing administrative support across a range of talent activities, you’ll play a pivotal role in helping the team deliver against Shelter’s sourcing strategy to reduce cost per hire and build our employment brand. You’ll also be key to ensuring our department achieves 100% compliance across all areas.

Taking administrative responsibility for the updating of our careers website supporting the ongoing management of our Applicant Tracking System will be important too, as will managing the reporting of vacancies and capturing all activity for consolidation and analysis. And, when it comes to carrying out pre-employment checks for external and internal candidates, again, we’ll count on you. Building strong working relationships focused on providing exceptional service, ensuring all resourcing needs are met and best practice implemented across the organisation and generally providing a timely, customer driven and compliance focused service – these are just some facets of this interesting and varied role.

About you

To succeed, you’ll need to be  motivated to become part of the team that supports the resourcing of the people it takes to deliver a strategy which will bring systemic change to the UK.

You’ll also need to be open to developing your skills to enable you to influence and engage at all levels throughout our organisation and keen to learn more about the Resourcing and  Talent sector. Enthusiastic, flexible and self-motivated, a good working knowledge of Word, Excel, and PowerPoint is also required.

About the Directorate

Our Strategy Enablement directorate brings together five core enabling support functions -  Finance, Tech & Data, Governance, Planning and Property and HR Delivery, where this particular role sits. The HR Delivery team partners and supports a wide range of organisational activities and provides advice and guidance to over 1,300 staff on a range of employee relations issues like employee engagement, recruitment and selection, reward and recognition etc. We also manage payroll processes, ensure HR policies and procedures are developed and updated and play our part in organisational change projects and transfers.
