Overview of the role:
Working in a small team, you will play an active role in the delivery of their External Affairs programme of work, primarily delivering secretariat duties for the APPG (All Party Parliamentary Group) on Deep Geothermal, as well as contributing to wider external affairs outputs.
Your core responsibilities will be to develop and deliver APPG Secretariat duties. You will ensure members and political stakeholders are kept informed, and that administrative requirements are met. You will be responsible for organising APPG meetings in Parliament and driving forward the APPG’s programme of work, liaising with multiple stakeholders across the public sector, industry, and academia. You will also monitor the public affairs landscape and deliver ongoing External Affairs programmes.
There will be opportunities to organise and attend Parliamentary and member events and to support meetings with parliamentarians and officers. Your work will include drafting briefings, minutes, press releases, and wider correspondence for members of the team, working across media relations, digital communications, stakeholder engagement, and crisis communications. You’ll undertake parliamentary monitoring to find and highlight debates and questions of relevance to members. You will also work closely with colleagues across other departments to ensure all external affairs messaging is aligned across the organisation.
Their head office is in Holborn, London – you will be expected to work in the office at least three days a week. Occasionally, you will travel to member offices, or other UK venues, to support events hosted there.
Key tasks:
- Ensure the APPG on Deep Geothermal is well managed and meets stakeholder expectations.
- Communicate regularly with external stakeholders.
- Produce internal written briefings ahead of meetings with Parliamentarians and industry stakeholders.
- Produce press releases and ensure they receive the widest coverage for them and their other work, by growing their network in trade and national press along with other media outlets.
- Take an active role in ensuring public affairs events are well run.
- Conduct regular media monitoring of Parliament and of the sectors they represent, identifying opportunities and risks for them and their members.
- Represent them and their members at Parliamentary and relevant industry events.
- Liaise with and manage the agencies/suppliers responsible for supporting the management of their public affairs programme.
- Working with the wider team, identify, develop, and deliver compelling thought leadership pieces (e.g., reports, whitepapers, blogs, opinion pieces).
- Keep external affairs content on their website up to date and relevant.
- Provide holiday and sickness cover for external affairs and comms roles.
- Support the development of their commercial opportunities, in collaboration with the Membership, Marketing, and Events team.
- Take direction and support your line manager and participate in any other tasks the organisation may require you to do.
Person Specification:
This role would suit someone with some experience in politics and/or external affairs, who would like to develop their skills and expand their knowledge in the renewable energy and cleantech sector. They will be adaptable, proactive, creative thinkers, and will get the job done whilst developing constructive relationships with colleagues. Candidates are encouraged to demonstrate experience of working with or managing APPGs, select committees, or advisory boards, and of dealing with multiple external stakeholders.
Essential:
- Exceptional organisational skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines and attention to detail.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Comfortable speaking and communicating with a range of internal and external contacts and organisations (e.g., the media, MPs offices, member companies, etc.).

Key Responsibilities
In this critical role you will work closely with the Director of Public Affairs and Communications to develop and implement a policy and influencing strategy to ensure that the voices of people we support, and their families are heard in all the places they need to be. You will build powerful relationships with politicians, civil servants and partners and feel comfortable representing the organisation at a range of different stakeholder events. You will love policy and public affairs, enjoy mastering details and offering sound advice. You will respond on behalf of the organisation to consultations and events and will be comfortable doing lots of reading and writing. You will enjoy building powerful and meaningful relationships.
General Duties:
- To ensure that Change Mental Health have a robust policy and public affairs process in order, to respond to events and consultations, set up meetings with influencers, write briefings for those meetings and record our interactions on the Lobbying Register.
- Develop and implement a policy and public affairs strategy which means Change Mental Health engage with external stakeholders, have key messages disseminated and ensure that the voices of our members and the people we support are heard at all levels.
- Ensure that Change Mental Health’s Public Affairs and Stakeholder policies are kept relevant for our staff and promoted throughout the organisation.
- Collaborate on key communications documents and channels, including our newsletter, website and support the high-quality use of our social media channels.
- Manage projects that improve the outcomes of those with poor mental health and wellbeing. When agreed, engage with parliamentarians and stakeholders, representing Change Mental Health and advocating for our policy agenda
- Take ownership of policy developments in fields relevant to Change Mental Health’s work and ensure you are up to date and well informed of recent developments.
- Write briefings for the Director of Public Affairs and Communications, the CEO, and Board as needed.

Purpose of the job
The Head of Policy & Public Affairs is responsible for leading UK Youth’s influencing work with Westminster, devolved administrations, and local government. They will lead our advocacy for ambitious and actionable policies that will help unlock youth work for all young people. This role will play a key role in delivering our ambitious policy influencing programme, helping to develop and advocate for the policy changes needed to reduce, prevent and eventually end the need for food banks in the UK. It will focus on developing Trussell policy positions in either employment support (especially for people with barriers to work) or disability and sickness benefits. The role will also lead the development and implementation of influencing plans in that policy area.
Role responsibilities
·Lead the development of policy solutions and positions
Leading the development of credible policy positions and implementable recommendations in the specified policy area - either in relation to employment support and conditionality, particularly for groups facing significant barriers to work including disabled people and single parents; or in relation to the disability benefit system, particularly Personal Independence Payments and the Work Capability Assessment.
Working with the Policy and Public Affairs, Network Operations and Participation teams to ensure our policy influencing has a robust evidence base.
Where appropriate, developing policy in collaboration with food banks in Trussell’s network and lived experience partners. Building on success of existing participatory work to ensure it is rooted in the lived experience of individuals affected by poverty. This includes ensuring an ethical approach to policy development in line with our values.
Working effectively with other expert partners to strengthen policy development and build alliances to support influencing, including project management and oversight of joint policy development and positions.
·Planning and delivering impactful policy activity
Leading the development of an influencing strategy for the policy area aligned to a theory of change. Ensuring policy outputs are timely, high-quality and support engagement with key audiences, including national and local governments across the UK. Co-ordinating responses to reactive work in areas, including policy consultations, activity in Parliament, in the media or in response to network requests.

Co-ordinating the development of the narrative and key messaging in the areas, maintaining a key message bank, with tailored lines for target audiences as needed.

Technical skills and minimum knowledge:
· Track record of successfully developing policy solutions, including credible and implementable proposals in either the area of either employment support or disability and sickness benefits.

Main purpose of this role
The Senior Public Affairs and Research Officer will drive policy change to increase surplus food redistribution by engaging with stakeholders across government, media, industry, and academia. They will support FareShare’s public affairs strategy by producing well-researched briefings, organizing impactful events, and fostering relationships with key partners.

FareShare is the UK’s national network of charitable food redistributors, made up of 18 independent organisations. Together, we take good quality surplus food from right across the food industry and get it to over 8,000 frontline charities and community groups. The food we redistribute is nutritious and good to eat. It reaches charities across the UK, including school breakfast clubs, older people’s lunch clubs, homeless shelters, and community cafes. Every week we provide enough food to create almost a million meals for vulnerable people.

The role
The role will sit within FareShare’s public affairs—part of the wider marcomms team—which is responsible for advocating for policies that create an economic and legislative environment that is beneficial for surplus food redistribution. This will help FareShare achieve its long-term goals of redistributing a higher proportion of the UK’s surplus food and benefiting more communities across the UK.
FareShare recently published its manifesto, ‘Where’s The Food? Strengthening Communities Through Surplus Food Redistribution.’ The manifesto sets out a path for government, businesses, and charities to work together to turn an environmental problem into a social good.
The Senior Public Affairs and Research Officer will be critical in advancing FareShare’s policy agenda, as outlined in the manifesto. Working closely with the Public Affairs, Policy and Campaigns Consultant, you will lead efforts to engage influential stakeholders, create compelling content, and coordinate high-impact events. This role offers a unique opportunity to influence national policy and contribute to meaningful change in the food redistribution sector.
Key responsibilities
Stakeholder Engagement: Build and manage relationships with diverse stakeholders, including government bodies, media, and academia, to advance FareShare’s policy objectives.
Policy, Research, and Briefings: Develop in-depth policy knowledge and produce well-researched briefings and reports articulating FareShare’s policy goals. Identify opportunities for FareShare to feed into Government consultations and Select Committees.
Events: Support the planning and execution of public affairs events, including parliamentary engagements and engagement with industry conferences.

Our Project Coordinator will engage very closely with regional and local community members, setting up and chairing groups where required in partnership with the wider research team, researching process and impact, developing a toolkit, and disseminating findings via events and online media and communication.
The position requires travel throughout the Highlands. Therefore we are looking for the candidate to be based in the highlands, or in Edinburgh (at our National Office).

The successful postholder will be key in providing exceptional care by delivering guidance, development, and raising membership awareness. The ideal candidate will have senior-level PR experience, proven success in managing PR and social media campaigns, and a strong background in health sector communications.
Key Responsibilities:
- Produce news articles, features, and content for both internal and external publications, as well as digital platforms and communication channels.
- Handle media inquiries, mitigate potential media risks, and issue timely, precise press releases.
- Drive internal communications by developing strategies with senior leadership and compiling monthly PR reports.
- Manage media relations and actively promote the organisation to both consumer media and trade press.
- Collaborate with key staff and partners to design and execute innovative media campaigns.
Person Specification:
- Experience working within a membership organisation and handling health-related communications.
- Extensive experience in a senior PR role, with a proven track record of managing integrated PR and social media campaigns.
- Strong understanding of social media trends, platform management, and online community engagement.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and implement successful PR and online campaigns, with an understanding of how PR supports broader marketing strategies.
- Skilled in creating and managing corporate publications, particularly within issue-based communications, ideally in the healthcare sector.
- Exceptional verbal communication and presentation skills, with a degree-level education or equivalent experience.
