Turn2us is a national charity tackling poverty and the structural causes of financial insecurity. We work with people who have current or recent experience of financial hardship and partners to provide people in financial crisis with the means and agency to get back on their feet, build resilience, move forward with their lives and thrive.
As an equal opportunities employer, we are committed to equity, diversity, inclusion and belonging and the value people from different backgrounds bring to a team. If, like us, you believe everyone has the right to have enough to live on, and you are ambitious about eradicating poverty, join us and build your career with a charity dedicated to ensuring dignity and equity for all.
Our vision is that everyone in the UK has financial security so they can thrive.
Our purpose is to offer support to those of us facing financial shocks and together challenge the systems and perceptions that cause financial insecurity.
As a member of the Senior Leadership Team, the Director of People and Culture will work in a spirit of mutual accountability with fellow directors, taking strategic leadership of Turn2us’s People and Culture Directorate. You’ll have responsibility for strengthening our culture and supporting all our people managers to attract, develop and retain colleagues who are committed to our values and guiding principles.
You will take proactive leadership of our Equity, Diversity, Inclusion and Belonging (EDIB) work across the organisation so that we can become more inclusive and diverse, as well as oversee our approach to co-production, making sure that we centre the voices and insights of people with experience of financial insecurity in the design of all our work. Importantly, you will also provide rigorous oversight of our approach to safeguarding and our broader approaches to governance, risk, and compliance across the group – which includes our wholly owned care home business, Elizabeth Finn Homes.
This is a challenging but immensely rewarding role that will work across all parts of our organisation, helping to shape how we work internally and externally, and make a genuine lasting difference to people facing financial insecurities.
About You
We are looking for an authentic and inspiring leader who brings significant experience of developing and implementing people and culture strategies, and of aligning those strategies to the organisation’s vision and values. You will share our unwavering commitment to EDIB, and bring a track record of driving meaningful change within an organisation so that it can become more inclusive and diverse.
You will bring high levels of compassion, empathy and emotional intelligence, able to build trust at all levels while being comfortable with constructive debate. You will have a curious mindset, continuously seeking out new learning opportunities for yourself and our organisation, and an enthusiasm for building new networks.
While experience of working within a charity would be beneficial, we are also keen to hear from candidates who bring transferable experience from other sectors. We know that Turn2us will benefit from leaders with new perspectives and ways of thinking, so we’re actively encouraging broad interest from impactful leaders who bring transferable skills. More importantly is a clear alignment with our organisational values and a passion for supporting people facing financial hardship.
We are always eager to receive approaches from people with lived experience of financial insecurity. If you can demonstrate a clear commitment to our values and ethos, and a deep personal commitment to our vision, we’d love to hear from you.

This Arrivals and Social Support Worker will work with young people and families to support them in their reunification and arrival to the UK. This legal casework is facilitated by our UK Legal Team and covers a range of geographic regions inside and outside of Europe, including responding to emerging crises such as working to support people fleeing Afghanistan, Ukraine, Sudan and Palestine.
Reunification and resettlement is a difficult process. This role will involve conducting pre-arrival needs assessments, preparing the family for the reunification, and supporting them after they arrive in the UK. You will work with the family and professionals and act as a bridge into longer term services and support. This role will also provide social support on a case-by-case basis for others in vulnerable situations, including family members pre-arrival, as well as to those on our Young Leaders Programme. This is a challenging and extremely rewarding role for candidates with a good understanding of the challenges young people and refugees face on arrival to the UK.
We are looking for candidates with strong social support skills, as detailed in the Person Specification. Experience in a similar role would be welcome, but this could also be your first paid position in the charity sector, or you could be returning to work after time out. This position will have a dedicated training budget and you will be supported to grow and develop within your role.

Actively Interviewing
This organisation is scheduling interviews as applications come in. They're ready to hire as soon as they find the right person. Don't miss your opportunity, apply now!
AAFDA was founded by Frank Mullane in memory of his sister Julia Pemberton and her son Will who were both killed by her ex-partner in 2003.
Each year, around 150 families lose a loved one to domestic homicide. The actual number of suicides as a result of domestic abuse remains unknown. Most of these families suffer significant problems including relationship breakdown, job difficulties/loss and mental and physical health issues. We help these families in many ways, our prime function being to provide families in England and Wales with specialist peer support and expert and specialist advocacy for the range of statutory reviews that will take place after domestic homicide.
AAFDA (Advocacy After Fatal Domestic Abuse) is a growing Charity and to meet the demands of this growth, we are looking for an exceptional candidate to join our team in a highly rewarding opportunity. Although home based, some travel will be required - frequency will be commensurate to the role. We welcome applications from candidates with experience of domestic abuse. We are also committed to diversity and strongly encourage applications from those with Black and/or Minoritised backgrounds.
Our Specialist Advocates support families impacted by fatal domestic abuse through provision of lay advocacy for and on behalf of families with a range of statutory service providers (e.g. those conducting reviews and inquiries, social services, police, housing) and work to build good relations between all parties. To ensure that families get the support they need, you will use AAFDA’s Home Office endorsed seven-step approach to working with individuals and families, to ensure that they receive the best possible support and advocacy to restore dignity and relief for families and to help them cope and recover. Through trauma-informed approaches, you will:
- listen to families and advocate for them in a complex system that too often treats them as passive participants and overlooks the value of their insight;
- provide information, support, guidance, advice and advocacy on Domestic Homicide Reviews, Mental Health Reviews, Inquests, Independent Office of Police Conduct inquiries and other types of Inquiries;
- manage families’ expectations of the legal and procedural processes facing them by supporting families in meetings with agencies such as health, police and local authorities;
- give families practical help on a wide range of issues - including help with letter writing or advocating with employers and local authorities on the families’ behalf;
- Support AAFDA in our bringing families together in AAFDA’s peer support events, such as the Hear Our Voice weekend and the on-line peer support Zoom sessions, where families can speak with others to share their experiences and stories. This will involve occasional evening work.
This role is offered on a full-time basis.
In return for joining us, we will offer you:
- 25 days annual leave per annum, plus bank holidays
- Excellent development and training opportunities
- Pension Scheme
- Healthcare Scheme
- Employee Assist Scheme
To apply for this role, please submit a supporting statement along with your CV.
Closing date: 5pm on the 17th October.
Applicants will be shortlisted according to how well they meet the criteria in the person specification. Please highlight and explain how you meet these in your supporting statement. If you have been shortlisted for interview, you will be informed by email. Regrettably, we are normally unable to acknowledge unsuccessful applicants. Please note that we will not progress applications where the supporting statement does not address the criteria for the role being applied for.
The client requests no contact from agencies or media sales.
