Role purpose:

Internal Auditor is a new post at ShelterBox. The charity has grown significantly in recent years and now the charity is looking for a motivated experienced internal auditor to join the finance team and establish the new internal audit function.

Plan and deliver internal audits to provide assurance that financial and other control procedures are appropriate and implemented as designed.

Plan and deliver work that identifies risks and potential improvements within; ShelterBox’s overseas activities, the way ShelterBox work with Partners, Partner activities, ShelterBox’s approach to UK based financial activities and continually in ShelterBox’s approach to internal audit.

Design, instruct and conduct standard review activities to act as an important element of ShelterBox’s control environment to deter and detect potential fraud, overseas and in the UK.

The work of the Internal Auditor is closely aligned with the work of the International Programmes Team, the person in this role will support and collaborate with the International Programmes Accountant and the Broader team.  This is not just a financial audit brief, our internal audit function will have a remit covering both operational and financial controls. Whilst this role will perform some review of UK controls, its main focus will be upon our overseas humanitarian projects. There should be a willingness and ability to travel internationally at least once per quarter to programmatic locations, some of which may be insecure environments.

Who are we looking for?

A proactive and enthusiastic self-motivated individual with experience delivering high quality Internal Audit services in an INGO setting. Experience in developing services, new competencies or leading on projects will be beneficial to demonstrate skills needed to develop a new service like the Internal Audit Function at ShelterBox.

The successful candidate must have a recognised qualification which implies a thorough knowledge of the principles, procedures and practices of accounting, financial records and

transactions. These can include one of the following: ACA (Association of Chartered Accountants), CIMA (Chartered Institute of Management Accountants), or ACCA (Certified Chartered Accountant), or international equivalent.

The ideal candidate will be a great communicator and be proven in building and maintaining effective relationships, across teams and with external stakeholders. A communicator able to modify presentation techniques depending on recipients.

Duties will include but not be limited to:

Responsibility for Internal Audit Function

· Responsible for delivery of Internal Audit services that meet the needs of ShelterBox.

· Develop and have approved, terms of reference, common processes, procedures and methodologies for the Internal Audit Department.

· Agree Short, medium and long-term plans for the future Internal Audit Department activities.

· Deliver internal audits to provide assurance that financial and other operational control procedures are adequate, effective and efficient and implemented as designed.

· Deliver internal audits that provide assurance over the stewardship of ShelterBox assets, operational controls and the probity of ShelterBox’s financial reporting.

· Deliver internal audits that provide assurance that ShelterBox and partners comply with UK and overseas legal requirements and contractual obligations.

· Undertake investigations into suspected fraud, or other financial irregularities, whilst complying with best practice and data protection, confidentiality etc

· Respond to requests for assistance and advice from management in respect of any matters relating to systems of control, risk management and governance.

· Work within ShelterBox UK and ShelterBox overseas operations, as well as with partners, affiliates and subsidiaries.

· Support the International Programmes Accountant to deliver effective support for International Programmes team and partners.

· Identify and share common issues highlighted during audits and best practices.

· Support year end accounts preparations by producing deliverable to support the audit or substantiate figures that are incorporated into year end accounts.

· Stay abreast of changes in regulations, and emerging risks to ensure audit processes remain relevant and effective.

Lead and carry-out risk-based internal audits

· Conduct the audit planning process, define the audit scope and prepare the Terms of Reference.

· Organise required logistics arrangements for the audit.

· Prepare the audit work programme.

· Complete and document the audit work (incl. interviews, testing, field visits if applicable and other as appropriate).

· Ensure findings are monitored and implemented.

Ensure good communication with the auditees and communicate the results of audit assignments to relevant internal stakeholders.

· Facilitate the audit kick off meeting.

· Organise and hold debriefing meetings with relevant stakeholders.

· Write the audit report including contextual elements, audit findings, associated risks and recommendations.

· Collaborate with colleagues and partners to develop action plans to address audit findings and track the implementation of corrective actions.

About the Role

The Open Government Partnership (OGP) Support Unit (SU) seeks an experienced accounting professional with proven track record  in the non-profit sector to provide finance and accounting services to support the Finance team.  We are looking for an individual with strong understanding of accounting principles, with excellent problem solving skills and attention to detail. 

The consultant will assist with preparing and analyzing financial reports and ensuring that financial records are accurate and compliant with relevant regulations where OGP conducts business. This role involves various accounting tasks, including general ledger entries, account reconciliations, financial reporting, and assisting with audits. The Consultant will work closely with other finance team members to ensure that financial and accounting systems, controls, and standards are in place to support the organization's overall financial health.

 Ideal candidates should have a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field and experience with  accounting software- Intacct or Netsuite preferred. The consultant can work remotely, with a preference to be based in the Washington, D.C. area, London, or Brussels.

Deliverables and Timeline

Consultant services are required through March 31, 2025, with the possibility of a contract extension. Key deliverables and services to be provided include:

1. General Ledger Maintenance:

   • Prepare and post journal entries to the general ledger.

   • Maintain and update balance sheet account reconciliations.

   • Assist with month-end and year-end closing processes.

2. Financial Reporting:

   • Prepare draft  financial statements and supporting schedules.

   • Assist in the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports.

   • Support compliance with accounting standards and regulations.

3. Accounts Payable and Receivable:

   • Review payables and receivables.

   • Review and post accounts receivable payments.

   • Reconcile bank accounts using the accounting system.

4. Audit and Compliance:

   • Assist the Finance Director with internal and external audits.

   • Support the Finance Director to ensure adherence to internal controls, financial policies, and donor requirement regulations.

   • Maintain accurate and organized financial records for audit purposes.

5. Budgeting and Forecasting:

   • Assist in the preparation of budgets and financial forecasts.

   • Assist with analyzing variances between actual results and budgeted figures.

6. Special Projects:

   • Support special projects and process improvements as needed.

   • Support the implementation of new budgeting software

Agreement and payment

OGP and the Consultant will enter into a service contract as listed in this Terms of Reference. The agreement will start as soon as possible. For services rendered per the description above, the consultant will be issued a contract with a fee of US$60/hour (VAT included) corresponding to about 20 hours per week between October and March. Contract will be for a maximum of 560 hours of work through March 31, 2025, with a ceiling amount of USD $33,600, with possibility of renewal. The consultant will invoice OGP at either monthly or other agreed upon frequency intervals, as preferred, and include details of number of hours worked and description of services rendered per invoice period and banking information. OGP will provide an invoice template.

About the Role

The Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN) is seeking a visionary and strategic financial leader to join our team as Chief Finance Officer (CFO). This executive-level role offers a unique opportunity to shape the financial future of an organization committed to tackling the global challenge of malnutrition. . In the face of increasing global challenges like COVID-19, the conflict in Ukraine, and worsening malnutrition and hunger, we are driven by our strategy to transform food systems for the benefit of the most vulnerable populations.

The Role

As CFO, you will play a pivotal role in our Strategic Management Team (SMT), providing financial leadership that aligns with our bold strategy. You will ensure that GAIN’s financial plans are robust, transparent, and meet the highest standards of probity, while also ensuring compliance with donor requirements for budgeting and reporting. You will lead GAIN’s finance team, providing the strategic direction necessary to support our ambitious goals.

This role can be based in London (UK), Nairobi (Kenya), or New Delhi (India), offering flexibility for the right candidate.

Key Responsibilities include:

• Strategic Financial Leadership: Provide expert financial analysis, strategic guidance, and sound financial management across GAIN. Lead the finance team to support the organization’s strategic goals.
• Corporate Finance: Develop and manage GAIN’s corporate finance activities, ensuring robust financial systems and processes that are user-centric and future-proofed for a growing organization.
• Budgeting and Reporting: Oversee effective budgeting and financial planning, supporting the development and use of KPIs, and ensuring transparency and value for money.
• Risk, Compliance, and Controls: Manage relationships with external auditors and ensure compliance with all relevant accounting standards. Oversee risk management, financial controls, and regulatory compliance.

Your Profile

The ideal candidate will have a distinguished career in finance, ideally within the non-profit or related sectors, and a proven track record at the Finance Director or CFO level in a multi-country context. Key attributes include:

• A recognised professional finance qualification (e.g., ACA, FCA, CPA).
• Extensive experience in strategic financial planning, budgeting, and managing financial operations in a complex, global environment.
• Strong leadership and team management skills, with the ability to lead a geographically dispersed team.
• Deep understanding of diverse regulatory environments, particularly those relevant to Swiss Foundations.
• Expertise in donor and project funding, FOREX, and cash optimisation in a non-profit context.
• Excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage with a wide range of stakeholders, including Board members, donors, and non-financial staff.

The Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN) is a Swiss-based foundation launched at the United Nations in 2002 to tackle the human suffering caused by malnutrition. Due to COVID19, conflict in Ukraine and climate change, malnutrition and hunger have worsened significantly since 2019, reversing a decade of progress. There is growing recognition that our food systems need to change if we are to reverse these trends.

GAIN’s Strategy aims to transform food systems to make healthier diets from sustainable food systems accessible to all people and especially those whose are most vulnerable to shocks. The Access to Justice Foundation is seeking a Development Officer to join us at an exciting time, as we launch new organisational and fundraising strategies. We are offering a unique opportunity to learn and apply your skills across a range of fundraising streams.

You will be responsible for promoting and administering pro bono costs orders, supporting volunteer organisers of our annual fundraising walks, and maintaining key stakeholder relationships and securing new donors (principally law firms and charitable trusts).

You will work closely with the Development Director (who oversees our fundraising and development strategy) and the other Development Officers (who will share responsibility for fundraising, alongside their broader promotion and awareness raising activity).
