The Direct Marketing Executive will be a key role within the Acquisition & Development Team, supporting the team and its activities as a whole, but also owning and becoming the expert in specific areas in line with the Fundraising Strategy. Specific areas of focus currently are around digital acquisition, and with a particular focus on ensuring detailed tracking and reporting are in place for all campaigns across the team.
This role sits within the Individual Giving and Legacy team reporting to the Development Lead. It also works closely with the wider Acquisition & Development Manager, the wider Fundraising Division, and cross functionally with other teams within the organisation.

The Direct Marketing Manager, Retention, is a newly developed role at the DEC, responsible for shaping and delivering new and existing supporter journeys for DEC individual, community and legacy donors, and leading a programme of improvement across all major contact points between the DEC and the public.
The Direct Marketing Manager, Retention will:
- Contribute to and develop DEC direct marketing strategies, including the refreshing, implementation and analysis of the DEC’s segmentation, to maximise future income and continually improve the retention of individual supporters for future emergency appeals,
- Lead on the production of retention and reporting back materials for individual and community supporters,
- Manage the development and maintenance of specific supporter journeys,
- Develop and oversee the materials and supporter positioning for a light touch and mainly reactive legacy marketing programme for the DEC.
Key responsibilities include:
Strategy and Planning
- Develop and implement the direct marketing retention strategy, ensuring that past learnings are built upon, and new ideas are tested.
- Develop and implement specific audience journeys for segments across both the life cycle of a DEC appeal and between appeals.
- Ensure timely and relevant communications to all direct marketing, community, and legacy audiences on the impact of their donations.
- Build an improved supporter journey strategy for new, repeat, and lapsed donors.
- Lead, design, and monitor the collection of audience insight during appeals.
Fundraising
- Develop the DEC’s donor journeys for individuals and community supporters, monitoring the development of segments and the engagement of repeat donors.
- Provide analysis during and following an appeal of performance to measure and report performance against key indicators and develop recommendations for improving impact in the next appeal.
- Support the stewardship of community fundraisers and groups in conjunction with the Supporter Services team.
Networking and building relationships
- Develop excellent working relationships with the DEC’s suppliers including creative agencies, media agencies, SMS and email suppliers, and the print/mailing house.
- Work with permanent and temporary staff at the DEC during appeals to maximise the success of the appeal.

The team works across all areas of the organisation to improve processes, unlock efficiencies through automation and generate insights from data. They ensure that data is utilised to inform any innovations or refinements to our services.
The successful candidate will be an entrepreneurial manager with a high level of data literacy. We are looking for someone strategic, highly organised and a strong people and team manager. They will be confident at communicating data in a variety of ways to a large range of audiences, identifying key take-aways and the broader implications of the findings on our clients and programming. They will also be able to train others in key data analysis and communication skills.

What will your typical day involve?
You will develop and implement a marketing strategy aimed at reaching diverse audiences, including those in need of care, professionals, and donors. You will also maintain our website, design promotional materials, optimise SEO, and assist with photography and event materials, ensuring GDPR compliance. Who are we looking for?
We seek someone with a positive attitude and excellent communication skills, committed to making a difference. A Graduate Level qualification in Marketing/Media is essential.

About the role
This is an important role within our legacy and journeys team, part of an established and successful individual giving operation. This role is responsible for the delivery of campaigns to promote legacy giving and to raise awareness of gifts in wills to both existing charity supporters and new audiences.

About You:

About the role
An exciting brand new role in a busy supporter experience team you are responsible for delivering income growth, leading on fundraising campaign delivery including acquisition and retention activities.
Managing a team of two (an officer and an assistant) you will be overseeing the team day to day as, together, you develop creative campaigns working alongside the rest of the fundraising and communications team. As you direct the marketing team, it is essential you'll be able to use your fundraising knowledge to edit copy and feedback on campaigns based on your experience of how to uplift response. This knowledge will be developed in your ongoing regular work monitoring the teams results and performance, putting these learnings into action with the creative, data and planning decisions that you make. Linking creative decisions with data and analysis is key and we welcome the new ideas that brings.
