The Philanthropy Manager will secure gifts from Individuals, Trusts and Foundations in the range of £1,000-£50,000+, and will work closely with the Head of Development, Centre Director and Board to steward gifts at the £50,000+ level.

You will be a relationship-focused fundraiser with experience of face-to-face fundraising, excited by the opportunity to play a key part in launching a major new cultural institution. The Role

This is an exciting and challenging opportunity to work across both Houses of Parliament to ensure that our updated Safeguarding policy is effectively implemented and embedded across our varied teams.

The Parliamentary Estate is a mixed-use site, with many different activities involving a wide range of individuals: from members and staff of both Houses, to visitors on democratic access tours and attending proceedings, school children on educational tours, VIP visitors and parliamentary delegations, and tourists from all over the world.

You will need to work with teams across Parliament to understand these different activities, assess the risks of harm to children and adults at risk, the likelihood of those risks materialising, and how Parliament can effectively mitigate them. You will lead in the roll out of our updated Safeguarding policy alongside the development of a network of trained safeguarding coordinators, developing a community of interest to share best practice and guidance.

Some of the responsibilities for this role include:

• To be the lead source of advice and guidance on safeguarding policy and practice within Parliament.

MediCinema is a unique national, UK registered charity that improves the wellbeing and enriches the quality of life of NHS patients, their families and carers through the power of the shared cinema experience and the magic of film. We achieve this by building and running cinemas in hospitals and places of care equipped with space for beds, wheelchairs and medical equipment, and providing free films and activities for patients of all ages. Our purpose-built in-hospital cinemas are designed to accommodate patients in hospital beds and wheelchairs, on drips or with monitors. From all our impact evaluation and with over 24 years’ experience, we know this equips people with the tools to navigate the stress and difficulties that come with illness, to create positive memories, positive healthcare experiences, and to help build resilience.

The Role

We are looking for a Deputy Cinema Manager to join the existing team at the Chelsea&Westminster Hospital in London, working closely with CW+, the official charity of Chelsea and Westminster Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. The roleholder will also be required to provide cover to our other London-based MediCinemas at Guys and St Thomas’s Hospitals.

The post-holder will work with the Cinema Manager and the team of nurses and volunteers who support our MediCinema, and will work closely with them, the hospital, and with central office operations team to prepare for and run successful film screenings each week.

We run 4 regular inpatient screenings each week which includes evenings and weekends. The roleholder will be required to work on a shift pattern to include weekends and evenings each week. There will also be a programme of additional Tailored and Personal screenings on top of these regular inpatient screenings. 

The role offers a unique, exciting and extremely rewarding opportunity for someone interested in a service delivery role at the heart of our charity, involving direct contact with the patients and families we support.

Main Tasks and Responsibilities

Service Delivery

• Support the Cinema Manager in delivering a programme of screenings each week as agreed according to the operating procedures of a MediCinema, including running and managing screenings on your own. Most screenings are held in the evenings and at weekends so the role requires regular evening and Saturday working.

• On screening days be responsible for:

o Marketing the service through the hospital’s wards, organising collecting and returning patients, and for safety and care in the cinema itself.

o Taking responsibility for health and safety of patients coming to the cinema, and the safety and appearance of the cinema space itself.

o Preparing and operating the digital projection equipment for the screening, ensuring that films are screened to the highest technical standards at all times. Training and ongoing technical support will be provided for this.

o Ensuring that all operational, welfare and safeguarding policies set out by MediCinema are followed accordingly and that, where appropriate, consent forms are obtained for photographic or filmed records.

o Ensuring that all aspects of the operation comply with relevant health and safety legislation, and that areas where MediCinema might be in breach of such are dealt with immediately or brought to the attention of the appropriate authorities for rectification.

o Keeping accurate monitoring and operational records, including contacts and database updating as required

• Help the Cinema Manager collate, analyse and report back on agreed metrics and KPI’s

• Assist with arranging and running any special events and special screenings

• When required, arrange and run additional personal screenings for patients unable to attend regular screenings, plus special tailored screenings with particular hospital departments and patient groups.

• Support the development and roll out of any new type of screenings we embark on.

• Support the delivery of our complementary bedside services, such as our Disney ‘Moments that Matter’ work.

Nurse & Volunteer Management

• Help the Cinema Manager build, manage and support the team of nurses and volunteers to assist in the duties outlined above and to ensure that screenings run safely and smoothly – this will include assisting with recruitment and creating monthly rotas.

Marketing and Relationship Management

• Be proactive in marketing the service within the hospital, building key relationships with hospital staff and members of CW+.

• Help develop and manage effective partnerships throughout the hospital and community

• Representing the organisation effectively and compellingly at all times.

• Support the programming and development of the MediCinema as a centre for entertainment, being pro-active in developing a creative programme of sustainable events at each site. This could include fundraising events, live performance and other relevant activities.

Administration and other duties 

• Deputise for the Cinema Manager as and when required.

• Provide holiday or emergency screening cover when required.

• Help manage the collection, loading and returning of films.

• Champion the work of MediCinema within the hospital and cinema environment, as well as confidently and positively representing MediCinema in all interactions and at any meetings and events.

• Contribute to the strategic development of the Chelsea&Westminster MediCinema, operations and MediCinema as a wider organisation

• Communicate effectively with all team members, ensuring an inclusive and whole organisation approach

• Undertake other tasks, projects and duties as reasonably required.

MediCinema is a small team and staff members are expected to support each other and share cross-organisational work in addition to fulfilling individual responsibilities.

• Work with the digital marketing and comms team to produce engaging, accessible content and campaigns across web, social, email and paid digital activity to promote fundraising products and activity.
• Research and recommend new ways of raising funds and generating income through community fundraising.

Budgets and planning:

• Produce and manage the Community Fundraising income and expenditure annual plan and budget.
• Work with the Senior Events and Community Manager to regularly review performance, report variances against budget and undertake contingency planning to minimise risk.
• Monitor income and KPIs against agreed budgets and targets, taking action to address any shortfall.

People management:

• Provide all aspects of line management support, development and coaching to the Fundraising Assistant.
• Recruit, train, manage and inspire volunteers to deliver agreed aspects of the fundraising plan.

The successful candidate will be an experienced fundraiser in community and events with strong interpersonal and communications skills with the ability to build relationships with a wide variety of individuals.

This role is responsible for supporting the growth, planning and delivery of KCLSU campaigning and organising activity ensuring that elected officers, Academic Associations, Networks and students are enabled and empowered to create strategic, member-led campaigns. Support our members to develop, shape and deliver their agenda, providing advice, coaching and guidance on how to develop impactful campaigns and projects. Work as part of the Student Voice Team to embed campaigning and organising across all areas of our work ensuring that students from every segment of the membership are empowered to make change through campaigns. Enable our communities (Academic Associations, Liberation Networks and Student Representatives) to grow and develop into effective representative bodies.

Responsibilities include:

Growing, planning & delivering KCLSU campaigns

• Provide resources, support and mentoring to student officers and student campaigners, utilising digital and offline organising models of engagement, to support them to develop hard-hitting and effective campaigns.
• Coordinate and work with KCLSU teams to support representatives and members in delivering their campaigns and communicate the impact of campaigning at KCLSU, building interest and recruiting new activists as a result.
• Deliver a range of approaches to student voice engagement, developing diverse methods of participation and innovative practices for facilitating student decision-making, co-creation, and capturing insight.
• Work with external organisations to lead on KCLSU involvement in local, national and NUS campaigns.
• Responsible for measuring and reporting the impact of our campaigns.

Developing Student Representative Communities

• Support Networks, Academic Associations and Campaign groups on-going growth and development, supporting them to build inclusive, active, and intersectional student-led communities.
• Engage with representatives through coaching, building relationships and providing support as they develop and deliver their campaigning and organising agenda.
• Ensure participation in representation is accessible and inclusive, identifying and removing barriers to engagement particularly for low participation groups.

Leadership Development

• Create and deliver training, guidance and ongoing support for Student Officers, Student Representatives and Academic Associations, equipping students with the knowledge and skills that enable them to thrive in their role and feel empowered to grow as community leaders.
• Build strong and nurturing relationships with student representatives and Academic Association leaders, coordinating effective engagement and regular contact with our members.
• Empower students – particularly those from low participation groups - to become student leaders and participate in KCLSU Elections.

A successful candidate will have:

Qualifications

• A good standard of education, ideally to graduate level or equivalent. (Desirable)

Experience

• Experience of working in a campaigning organisation or as a campaigner
• Experience of mentoring and coaching staff/elected representatives/volunteers
• Experience of working in successful partnerships with a range of stakeholders
• Experience recruiting and supporting volunteers
• Experience of facilitating and delivering training
• Experience/involvement working with a membership organisation (either as an employee, representative or trustee) (Desirable)
• Experience of working with young people/education or similar (Desirable)

Knowledge

• Knowledge of community-building techniques and how to increase participation
• Knowledge of various campaigning and lobbying techniques
• Knowledge of community organising techniques
• Knowledge of current issues affecting the higher education sector
• Understanding of underrepresentation in higher education/voluntary sector and how these groups are affected by structural inequality (Desirable)
• Good understanding of representation systems and practices (Desirable)

Skills

Do you enjoy working in cross-functional teams to design end-to-end services and experiences? We are looking for a brilliant Service Designer to join our team, designing, building and iterating services and products that span the whole of RNID. With a focus on translating and joining up user and organisational need, you will support us to deliver user-centred services to the 18 million people in the UK who are deaf, have hearing loss or tinnitus. 

You should have professional experience working as a Service Designer or in another similar role. Our Service Designer will design user-centred experiences for complex services. You will:

Be passionately user-focused by recommending and supporting suitable approaches to understanding users and their needs. You support colleagues across a variety of roles to translate user insights into outcomes.

Ensure evidence and context-based design by collecting and synthesising evidence from best practice, research, and testing to inform your work.

Understand strategic goals and deliver work that supports them while considering organisational constraints. You focus on outcomes rather than solutions.

Collaborate in partnership with multiple teams and roles across the matrix to design the very best outcomes.

Create strong relationships by identifying and engaging key stakeholders. You listen to their needs and use evidence to bring the user need to life and to explain and influence decisions. 

Prototype for both digital and non-digital services, working with designers and non-designers. You use prototyping to test and iterate designs and choose the right level of fidelity for the task.

We are seeking an established fundraiser with experience of raising funds from trusts and foundations and is looking to take the next step in their career. Working in a supportive and well-established charity, you will have the autonomy and agency to lead in developing innovative new funding asks working closely with senior colleagues. You will manage, maintain and enhance relationships with existing partners and identify, approach and win the support of new supporters to expand our work. Through working collaboratively across the charity and producing high quality reports to our funders, you will see the tangible impact of your work on the lives of the Black, Asian and minority ethnic communities supported by the projects you have secured funding for.

You will work closely with the SMT to identify and research prospects, develop compelling applications, and manage funding streams. You will play a key role in building an effective Trust and Foundation Fundraising function, establishing effective ways of working across the charity and building positive, engaging, long-term relationships with funders.

The ideal candidate will be committed to tackling racism and reducing inequalities, you will be driven and ambitious, with experience across a range of fundraising methods but must have significant experience in developing Trust and Foundation relationships and evidence of securing 5 and 6 figure partnerships or grants.
