Job purpose
We are looking for an experienced digital communications professional to play a key role in improving our digital communications. Reporting to the head of communications, marketing and digital, the role will oversee the development of a new RCVS Knowledge website, developing our use of user data and insights and managing the development of engaging content.
As project manager for the RCVS Knowledge website development from discovery to launch, you will be working closely with your colleagues in our small and friendly communications team, as well as with internal stakeholders and external suppliers to help us realise our vision of a well-designed, user-friendly website which meets the needs of all our audiences.
You will ensure that we have a shared understanding of our requirements across the RCVS Knowledge team and with the supplier, and that these requirements are informed by audience data and insights. In addition, you will also take the lead on auditing our current site content and developing a strategy for developing relevant, high-quality content in time for launch and beyond.
You will have recent, relevant experience of leading website developments of significant size and complexity, with a passion for user-centred design and creating high-quality content.
Key responsibilities
- Act as the main point of contact between RCVS Knowledge and the digital agency, and internally with the website project stakeholders.
- Work with internal and external stakeholders to ensure user needs are understood, manage the development of the project plan, establish regular meetings to share progress and seek input and deliver to agreed timescales.
- Develop website goals and KPIs which support the RCVS Knowledge communications, marketing and digital strategy.
- Manage documentation for project governance as needed, including issues and risk logs.
- Lead on our content audit and strategy for the new website, considering user needs and supporting our organisational objectives.
- Create and edit a range of content for the new website which supports user experience and meets current best practice for SEO and accessibility.
- Oversee the content migration to our new website.
- Ensure all internal users receive training on the new CMS appropriate to their level of access.
- Ensure all activity is undertaken observing the requirements of data protection legislation (GDPR).
- Contribute to the development of a new communications, marketing and digital strategy.
- Using tools such as Google Analytics, ensure we are reporting against our agreed objectives and make recommendations based on the data and insights available.
- Ensure the wider RCVS Knowledge team and senior team are kept up to date with project progress.
- Provide additional informal training to staff on the use and interpretation of analytics.
- Undertake any other duties in line with the objectives of the post.
Essential Criteria
Skills, Knowledge & Experience
- A track record in, and passion for, digital communications gained in either in-house or agency roles.
- Experience of managing website projects from end to end including agency management, stakeholder management, build, design, testing and content creation.
- A solid understanding of content design, user experience and web accessibility.
- Experience of developing digital content which follows best practices and is engaging and inspiring for a range of audiences.
- Excellent writing and editing skills.
- Proficiency in Google Analytics, analysing data to inform decisions around improvements.
- A great understanding of SEO and the impact good content has on search visibility.
- Experience of and confidence in working with content management systems.
- Ability to build strong and effective working relationships internally and externally.
- Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a dynamic environment.
- Patience, initiative, sound judgement, and willingness to work as part of a team.
- Great communication skills – written and verbal.
- High-level of IT literacy, proficient user of Microsoft Office tools and project management software.

Purpose of Role
This role takes a data-led approach to maximising the impact of our communications to raise the profile of the organisation and achieving business outcomes through strategic communication and marketing efforts.
The role holder will work alongside the wider Communications & Campaigns team to deliver agreed GB-wide communications and manage nation-specific communications as part of an integrated and coordinated programme of communications.
The role holder has an innate connection and understanding of the Welsh context and can adapt and deliver national issues to local audiences, as well as bringing our work in Wales to a national audience across multiple channels.
Key responsibilities
Communications planning
- Work closely with the Ramblers Cymru team to stay abreast of projects and local issues.
- Work with the Strategic Communications Manager to lead a structured communications planning process that ensures key audiences are receiving timely communications in line with their needs, via appropriate channels (GB-wide or nation-specific). A key part of this process will be sequencing to ensure that audiences are not overwhelmed by multiple/fragmented messages.
- Work closely with the broader communications team to develop strategically aligned messaging and campaign assets for both GB-wide and nation-specific communications activities and advocacy campaigns.
Communications Delivery
- Project manage and deliver GB-wide and nation-specific communications activities across owned, earned and (where relevant) paid channels, including managing timeframes and budgets, mobilising other teams, seeking collaboration opportunities with external partners, setting and measuring KPIs
Channel management
- Work in partnership with the Member & Supporter Experience team and the broader communications team to plan and deliver GB-wide and nation-specific member and volunteer communications.
- Work in partnership with the Social & Community Officer to present aligned messaging to our audiences, to drive engagement with our posts and to grow the reach of our GB-wide and nation-specific social media channels.
- Work in partnership with the Website Officer to present aligned messaging to our audiences and to maximise the impact of our website and digital marketing to grow our supporter base.
- Work in partnership with the PR & Media Officer to maximise the reach and impact of our public relations across our target audiences in England, Scotland & Wales.
Content Development
- Work in collaboration with the wider Communications & Campaigns team to source and produce communications materials and assets (photos, stories, videos, graphics etc) that can be used on GB-wide and nation-specific channels to help build the Ramblers brand and relevance to our target audiences
Data analysis and reporting:
- Monitor and analyse communications performance using key metrics and data insights.
- Prepare detailed reports and recommendations to inform future campaigns and strategies.
Innovation and improvement:
- Apply data insights to shape and improve channel strategy and tactics, using a test-and-learn approach.
- Stay current with industry trends, best practices, and emerging technologies to continuously enhance campaign effectiveness.
- Implement feedback and lessons learned to refine and improve campaign strategies.
Other
- Undertake such other duties as may be required of the post.

The Person
Knowledge and Experience
- Ability to develop and implement effective communications activities aligned with organisational goals.
- Proficient in the Welsh language. As a minimum be able to review copy provided by a translator. Ideally able to write Welsh copy from scratch and conduct media interviews in Welsh.
- Proven experience in managing and executing successful paid and no cost/low-cost communications campaigns, preferably within a non-profit or advocacy/campaigning organization.

About the role
This role will be responsible leading on the digital communications and content strategy focussing on developing fundraising messaging and digital influencing campaigns in an integrated way across all related channels to drive forward our ambitious fundraising and campaigns plans.
As part of the award-winning Fundraising and Brand team at Refugee Action, you will help create and implement bespoke supporter journeys across multiple online platforms with the aim of significantly raising our online presence, increasing donations, inspiring change and supporting the organisation’s growth. This is an exciting role where you will lead on implementing Elrha’s digital strategy, including overseeing the final stages of our new website and the continued development of our social channels, to help our work reach our key audiences and enhance our voice in the humanitarian community.
In this role you will have the opportunity to oversee the production process of products of all shapes and sizes in line with our digital first approach, making sure everything is true to our brand, connects with our audiences, and is inclusive and accessible to all. You will also use your skills to lead on communication activities for Elrha’s events to showcase the best of our work, and the work of those we fund.
You will be given a high degree of autonomy in your work, so to be successful, you will need to be flexible, bold, and work well in a constantly changing environment. You will have strong organisation skills and experience of managing a varied workload while paying attention to the tiny details.

Who we are looking for
Our Communications Services team is seeking a talented Communications Officer, Social Media and Digital, with a background in sustainable development, science or health communications. The successful applicant will be educated to degree level with at least a 2:1 or 1st class honours degree.
You will need to be creative with the ability to produce social media campaigns, digital content and videos, and lead the development of engaging websites to tell our clients’ stories. Plus, you’ll need to be highly organised and able to juggle multiple tasks to coordinate and deliver a wide range of engaging communications materials. You should also be open to travel, as the role could require you to visit projects in Africa or Asia.
What you will do
You’ll lead our social media and digital services for international development and research organisations around the world, as well as coordinating and providing advice on a range of other communications projects – covering topics such as climate change, health, poverty reduction, social equity, agriculture, water resources management, and green cities. You’ll need to think strategically and creatively, respond effectively to emerging trends, and help our team develop and grow.
Your role will include:
- Leading social media and digital communications services: you will conceptualise, coordinate and deliver social media campaigns, videos, websites, newsletters and other digital products for our clients – leading innovative content strategies that drive engagement.
- Content creation: you will create social media content and assets, graphics, videos and animations. You will also develop design templates and mock-ups, format presentations and Microsoft Word documents, produce event materials and make website updates.
- Project management: you will be the main point of contact for specific clients and projects, gathering requests for new products and services, and coordinating content development and graphic design work with other team members to ensure that projects are delivered efficiently and effectively. This may lead to overseas trips for some clients.
- Managing Scriptoria’s social media and website: you will lead Scriptoria’s external social media marketing and ensure our website and digital landscape remains dynamic and up to date. You will test and advise the team on new tools or programs.

- Strong creative flair with a strong understanding of best-practice design principles.
- Strong project management skills and the ability to multi-task, meet deadlines and cope flexibly with a range of jobs to meet (and exceed) client expectations.

You'll be:
- Meeting regularly with colleagues to ensure email marketing programme is planned, delivered and optimised based on results and supporter insight

- Ability to plan campaigns and communications that engage, motivate and inspire mobilisation from a range of supporters/customers.
