Independent Age is the national charity focused on improving the lives of people facing financial hardship in later life. We believe no one should face financial hardship in later life. Our Helpline and expert advisers offer free, practical support to older people without enough money to live on. Through our grants programme, we support hundreds of local organisations working with older people across the UK. 

We use the knowledge and insight gained from our support services and partnerships to highlight the issues experienced by older people in poverty and campaign for change. We would love to find individuals from all walks of life and diverse backgrounds to join us on this journey.

Responsibilities and Person Specification:

The Team Administrator supports our in-house Studio team with the administration and delivery of our content through the design, print and digital processes.

You will have excellent administrative, communication and organisational skills. You will have the ability to work under pressure to prioritise, deliver, manage, and coordinate several projects and activities simultaneously to tight timescales. You should also understand design and production best practice, processes and techniques across both online and offline formats.

CEO Opportunity at Mentell

Due to the exponential growth in service demand and revenue streams, Mentell is seeking to recruit a CEO to oversee the charity's short/medium and long-term objectives – primarily to increase the number of men being served by its activities each week.

The successful candidate will be comfortable working in a small team and possess excellent communication skills to keep the trustee board updated.

Mentell is looking for a proven charity leader with a can-do attitude who wants to work within a dynamic and ever-changing funding landscape with the imagination and willingness to hold the vision for the charity and keep the organisation accountable to its mission.

About the Role

Experience in a VCSE leadership position is essential. The role offers an excellent opportunity to immerse yourself in a fast-growing organisation with the support and backing of a forward-thinking trustee board. You will ultimately act as the gatekeeper for all new business (bids, tenders, commissioned work) and work with the Head of Projects & Fundraising to identify and build strong ongoing partner relationships. Therefore, the successful candidate must possess the people skills to build strong connections within the existing team and be able to represent the whole charity when presenting our service.

Key Responsibilities

• Ensuring a joined-up approach between communities and programme teams leads to the delivery of a seamless journey for men, from initial awareness of their mental health needs to attendance at a circle, whether online or in-person.
• Develop, implement and continually appraise the plan for ongoing service growth – geographically and through pursuing and building new partnerships.
• Ensure that raising awareness of issues relating to men’s mental health remains a golden thread running through the charity’s entire work and communications, irrespective of whether it results in men accessing Mentell’s services or those of another organisation.
• Work with the Head of Projects & Fundraising and Community Manager to ensure a pipeline of funding from grants, philanthropy, donors and community fundraising.
• Oversee and increase the impact of effective and innovative communications via website, social media and hard-copy promotional materials.
• Take responsibility for all aspects of charity and other statutory compliance.

What We’re Looking For

• Outstanding leadership skills proven within a charitable context.
• Demonstrable ability to develop and establish new organisational processes and frameworks.
• Demonstrable track record in supporting a strategic approach to fundraising, including the production of grant applications, personal/community fundraising and building effective relationships with key funders.

The postholder will support our parliamentary, government and stakeholder engagement, with the aim of ensuring that the voice of our members is heard across Westminster and Whitehall and that our influence as the voice of the NHS frontline is strengthened with key decision makers. This includes helping to ensure that trusts and NHS Providers colleagues are well-briefed on key parliamentary and government developments and providing administrative support to the public affairs team.

Behind Closed Doors has been tackling domestic abuse for 25 years and provides support to everyone in Leeds who is affected by domestic abuse. BCD is the only service in Leeds to provide end to end support.  They are there at the point of crisis and stay on to work with individuals and families through their recovery.

This life transforming charity have supported thousands of people whose lives have been affected by domestic abuse and last year alone 720 people came to them for help. 

Domestic abuse is always unacceptable. Do you want to be the new figurehead to lead this charity striving to support everyone in Leeds affected by it, and act to prevent it?

The Role

The CEO will be accountable to the Board of Trustees for the overall strategic management, leadership, and development of BCD and achievement of the overall strategic objectives. Duties will include:

• Implementing and delivering the strategic plan and reporting on implementation, risk, and changes to the plan.
• Representing BCD as an active member of the Leeds Domestic Violence Service (LDVS) strategic group and support the LDVS operational management team.
• Overseeing complex projects and their successful delivery to time and target.
• Taking overall responsibility for the recruitment, management, supervision, training and development of all staff and volunteers.
• Leading on the overall fundraising strategy, identifying growth targets and quarterly income projections and leading on the appropriate use of reserves.

The Person

We are looking for a visionary leader! A values-based collaborative, adaptable and influential individual who is passionate about the ethos and mission of the charity. The skills and experience we are looking for include:

• A demonstrable track record of working in a senior strategic leadership role
• Evidence of working with senior managers and board members to ensure strong and effective financial management
• Strong networking and influencing skills with an ability to build excellent relationships with a wide range of stakeholders, along with a collaborative and direct approach to partnership management
• Strong and clear communication skills and a competence with public speaking, along with an ability to deliver messages to a variety of audiences
• An unrivalled commitment to the charity’s EDI agenda.
