Sightsavers is looking for a Deputy Director Neglected Tropical Diseases Programme Delivery Unit to manage the section of the NTD PDU which focuses upon Nigeria-based projects.

The Deputy Director NTD PMU role is accountable for the on time and budget, quality delivery of NTD projects in Nigeria and the management of the relevant NTD PDU team programme managers and officers and other Sightsavers resources. Key duties will include:
- Managing the NTD PDU team of programme managers
- Ensuring that all Sightsavers resources are managed and used to maximum effect and efficiency
- Accountability, in partnership with country and regional directors, for ensuring the NTD programmes are delivered within the guidelines of the NTD packages and use the most up to date tools and reporting processes, and are aligned to the relevant global/ WHO NTD related preferred practices
- Supporting the management of relations with the relevant ministries of health, in strict coordination with the country and NTD Ops teams
- Facilitating the timely, quality, evidenced-based reporting on programmes for management of donors
- Supporting the grant programme directors to effectively manage donor requirements
- Supporting funding applications, assisting in both initiating and maintaining strategic donor relationships
- Approval of country NTD annual budgets
- Managing operational risk and escalate when required
- Ensuring that all interventions uphold a commitment to gender, equity, social inclusion, value for money and sustainability

To succeed in this role you will need:
- Detailed understanding of Sightsavers NTD packages and global preferred practices relating to the 5 PCNTDs
- Extensive experience and/ or qualifications in programme/project management in private, humanitarian or development sectors including budget management
- Experience of sharing and capturing good practice
- Understanding and experience of a partnership approach to programme implementation
- Experience in developing country contexts - essential
- Experience of managing research programmes - an advantage
- Experience of managing difficult, political relationships and problem solving
- Ability to work within a complex matrix structure without compromising the roles of key programme personnel.
- Ability to work collaboratively and build stakeholder consensus
- Ability to identify key risks problem solve and rapidly escalate critical issues (no surprise environment)

Working with the Chief Development Officer, the postholder will coordinate all aspects of the charity’s fundraising function, joining the leadership of a highly successful fundraising team to meet and exceed its ambitious fundraising targets (currently £13m per annum from donations, grants and university partnerships - and projected to rise each year as the charity expands its reach)
Contract

The main duties of the role
Working with the Chief Development Officer and Assistant Director of Development to oversee the charity’s fundraising operations, including:
- Leading the day-to-day active oversight and coordination of the charity’s fundraising operations (eg the management of prospect research and prioritisation, managing workflows, solicitation planning, ensuring effective stewardship of supporters, tracking and monitoring funding)
- Along with the Chief Development Officer and other members of the team, leading on fundraising bids, and supporting the fundraising team in their preparation of compelling and high-quality applications
- Supporting the fundraising team in the effective management and prioritisation of its prospect pipelines
- Ensuring effective solicitation planning across the team, from researching potential donors and the development of donor relationships, through to the design and implementation of solicitation and stewardship strategies
- Senior oversight within the fundraising team over the charity’s fundraising from Trusts and Foundations
- Ensuring effective stewardship of supporters is maintained and developed across the team
- Tracking and monitoring of funding, working closely with the finance team and ensuring that accurate records are maintained
- Coordination of the Trustee and Development working group meetings on fundraising, and implementation of agreed actions
- Managing a portfolio of strategic funders including high-net-worth donors, university partners and family foundations
- Taking on a leadership role on targeted fundraising campaigns, in particular in conjunction with university partners for multiple centres
- Working with the data protection team to ensure fundraising activities meet data protection requirements

As one of two new permanent Executive Director positions, this role will be reporting to our Director General and will see you responsible for developing and delivering our digital and technology strategy and ensuring we become data-driven in all aspects of our work.
You will lead, build and develop high performing teams across our Transformation Management Office and Information Management & Technology functions, having accountability for the strategic leadership of our wider change and transformation programmes, whilst ensuring we cater for all of our potential digital first customers, supporters, members and beneficiaries.

Role Purpose
The role will focus on understanding and exploring the links between Gender and Disability, including access to Assistive Technology, interactions with Poverty and Disability and Social Justice, working with our existing and new partners, including relevant UN agencies, community partners, and our funders or clients (often donors or development banks). This role includes undertaking and supporting research to address gender issues within disability inclusion, including barriers and facilitators to understand ‘what works’ to drive gender-inclusive access to assistive technology.
This role will undertake research (including research management; ethics; facilitation of qualitative and quantitative methods; other data collection activities; analysis; writing reports and papers; and dissemination of research findings) within the FCDO (Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office) funded ‘AT2030’ programme. Priority countries within the programme are in the regions of Sub-Saharan Africa, Asia and the Pacific and expect to include countries such as Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania and Indonesia.
The post would suit a post-graduate researcher with practice-based experience within the thematic areas of disability, gender and social justice, and a good grasp of both qualitative and quantitative research methods. Experience working in the global south or less resources context is preferrable, as well as strong communication, project management and partnership skills.
We are looking for a creative, rigorous, and empathetic individual, ideally, with skills and experience in working with a gender lens. A candidate who can work autonomously, and as part of a team across various inter-related projects would be welcomed.
The post holder will work within GDI Hub's Research and Delivery team but will also spend time with other team members and research partners as needed.
