We are hiring! We have a job vacancy for an Early Intervention Project Worker to join Shine.

Shine has a membership of over 14,000 members living with Spina Bifida and/or Hydrocephalus and associated conditions and over 6,500 associated members.

Our Little Stars project for 0–12-year-olds has been established for over 5 years supporting younger members and their families with their diagnosis and beyond. We also have a growing Teen membership known as FIRE (Friendship, Independence, Resilience, Equality) Working alongside our multi skilled, established team, you will be supporting members across all age groups and building on the great foundations already in place. 

We are looking for an Early Intervention Project Worker who can cover the South of England, primarily you will be home based, supporting members through phone calls and using online platforms.  You will be required to attend clinics, events and meet members one to one where necessary within your allocated area and occasionally across wider areas and nationally. 

Purpose of the role 

• To deliver Shine's Little Stars (funded by The National Lottery Community Fund) project for 0–12-year-olds, supporting early years and younger members with their families, their diagnosis and beyond across the Southern Region. To provide advice, support and guidance to enable people with Spina Bifida and/or Hydrocephalus to access the correct benefits to become financially stable, the right services to improve their health and well-being, and to better co-ordinate their support and independence through a variety of methods. 

• To improve the life wellbeing of children 0-12 years old with spina bifida and/or hydrocephalus by promoting independence and providing them and their families with early intervention support. 

• To create a community whereby those affected by spina bifida and hydrocephalus can connect with others, are empowered through knowledge and feel confident in the support networks surrounding them.

Shine will offer you:

About the charity: Cavernomas look like raspberries and are found in the brain and spinal cord.  They're formed of abnormal blood vessels with thin leaky walls, which can bleed at any age without warning.  1 in 625 people are thought to have a cavernoma, and whilst most people won't experience symptoms 1 in 2,700 do.  Symptoms can include haemorrhages, seizures and other neurological problems.  Treatment involves 'wait and see', neurosurgery or stereotactic radiosurgery; with no medications currently available.

Cavernoma Alliance UK (CAUK) is a member-led organisation, run by and for those impacted by cavernoma with more information available on our website. We work from a model of empowerment, recognising the value of our members’ lived experience to provide mutual support, improve standards of care and drive research into finding a cure.

Since the charity was founded in 2005 it has grown from a volunteer-led organisation based in Dorchester to a UK wide registered charity that now has 2 part-time permanent staff, looking to increase to 4 Part-time staff (all home-based), 50+ volunteers, and 4,000+ members. Our support services include a helpline, buddying, counselling, online support groups, meet-ups, webinars, lectures, newsletter, leaflets, website and social media. 

About the roles: The Member Support Assistant is responsible for assisting our Volunteer Manager with administration relating to the support of the charity’s 4,000 members and volunteers.  This includes offering a professional service to members of CAUK, typically via phone, email, online, chat, or on occasion in person. The role involves supporting the membership and volunteering processes, ensuring all admin is accurate and up to date.  Over time the post-holder will be expected to build a good working knowledge of members and volunteers.  They will also be expected to develop strong communication skills, including active listening, alongside the ability to multitask, manage time and prioritise.

The Events and Office Assistant is responsible for assisting the Charity Manager with the administration of events alongside some general office activities for the charity.  This includes assisting with the organisation of the virtual Annual Conference, virtual Monthly Information Webinars, in-person Annual Snowdon Climb for Cavernoma, online Cavernoma Awareness Month activities, in-person Autumn Lecture, virtual Secret Santa, attendance by volunteers at external conferences, and any other events organised by CAUK.  As and when time permits in between events the post-holder will also assist with some general office activities, including posting t-shirts/fundraising packs to fundraisers and arranging Zoom meetings.

The role 

In this role you will support the Corporate Partnerships Manager and Head of Philanthropy and Partnerships to develop and deliver fundraising initiatives that will support existing corporate partners and securing new gifts. Your responsibilities will include the day-to-day account management of existing corporate partners, new business development and the co-ordination of our payroll giving program. This will include research, prospect development, donor cultivation & stewardship, verbal & written presentations and all associated administration.   Additionally, you will contribute to projects within the philanthropy & partnerships team such as events and webinars; and the wider fundraising team to collaborate on prospect development, funding opportunities and volunteering.

About you

You will be an excellent communicator, both orally and written, who is confident in speaking with supporters. You will manage your own pipeline of donors, so will need to take initiative, prioritise and organise your own work, with limited supervision to achieve deadlines for multiple tasks. Agile decision making and problem-solving skills are essential.

You may have fundraising experience, but this is not essential if you have sales experience. 

You will have:

- Excellent customer service skills with a background in fundraising or sales.
- Experience in new business development including identifying, researching and contacting cold prospects.
- Proficiency in verbal and written communication skills with an ability to present ideas creatively and persuasively.
- Strong administrative, planning and prioritisation skills with keen attention to detail.
- Competency with all standard Microsoft office applications, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
- Experience of using a supporter database or CRM

The Global Legal Action Network (GLAN) works with affected communities to pursue innovative legal actions across borders to challenge states and other powerful actors involved in human rights violations and systemic injustice. Our actions address the most pressing instances of human rights concern and they fall within the following themes: War and occupation; accountability and supply chains; environmental and economic justice; and migration and border violence.

Since our establishment in 2016, we have developed legal strategies directly addressing human rights impacts in over 23 countries and territories. Our cases include the successful legal challenge against imports of cotton produced with forced labour in Xinjiang (East Turkistan) into the UK on behalf of World Uyghur Congress and the climate case against 32 European States before the Grand Chamber of the European Court of Human Rights, brought on behalf of six Portuguese youth-applicants.

More recently, we have supported the preeminent Palestinian human rights organisation Al Haq, to rapidly challenge UK weapons exports to Israel due to the risk of these arms being used in violations of international law. 

ABOUT THE ROLE

As the Head of Strategic Communications at GLAN, you will spearhead the development and execution of a comprehensive communications strategy that amplifies GLAN's mission and impact on a global scale.

You will lead the strategic planning, implementation, and evaluation of all communications efforts to enhance the organisation's brand, increase public awareness, and support advocacy and fundraising initiatives.

A key part of your role will be to establish GLAN's voice and brand, ensuring it resonates with diverse audiences. You will lead on improving our website and communications style, producing high quality content and ensuring consistent and compelling messaging across all platforms.

By fostering strong relationships with key stakeholders, including the media, partners, and the affected communities we support you will play a crucial role in advancing GLAN's vision to challenge injustice through innovative legal strategies. 

Reporting directly to the CEO you will form part of the Senior Leadership Team to drive organisational growth & development; looking beyond your immediate communications responsibilities.

This is an exciting time to join GLAN. We are seeking a Head of Strategic Communications to build an ambitious communications strategy focused on some of the biggest human rights and climate change issues of our time. At this point in time, the team is small with some budget to work with external freelancers, consultants or agencies. We are looking for someone to grow with GLAN; joining us with a communications team of two and developing your team in the years to come. You should recognise that in the short to medium term, the role will involve some hands-on responsibilities until such time that we can expand the team.

KEY RESPONSIBITIES

Communications Strategy

• Align cross-media communication strategies with thematic goals to maximise success across all initiatives. Develop campaign & advocacy communications which will influence change.
• Collaborate with project delivery teams across GLAN to ensure a consistent calendar of communications, highlighting all key areas of work.
• Lead and mentor a high-performing communications and advocacy team, currently including a Campaigns Coordinator.
• Create and manage the departmental budget in alignment with the overall communications strategy.
• Utilise data and insights to map and analyse audience behaviour, informing and optimising communication activities.
• Monitor and evaluate the success of campaigns, tracking performance against strategic KPIs.

GLAN brand

• Oversee the review and redesign of the organisation's website to enhance user experience and engagement.
• Champion and promote the use of GLAN's brand among colleagues, fostering a unified brand identity.
• Develop a strong brand presence and establish comprehensive brand guidelines that reflect GLAN’s core values, emphasising the voices of affected communities in all communications. 

Senior Leadership Team (SLT)

• Serve as a key member of the senior management team, contributing to strategic decision-making and organisational planning.
• Represent the organisation externally at events, conferences, and meetings.
• Prepare communications updates and reports to the Board and relevant committees Work with SLT to improve impact measurement across GLAN.
• External stakeholders Be a Face of GLAN; building & cultivating tactical relationships and networks
• Develop a robust relationship management system to enhance engagement with key press contacts, partner organisations, related networks, and other critical stakeholders.

CLAPA supports people affected by cleft to take control of their journey, connect with others, and use their voices to impact the future of care. Our vision is that no one affected by cleft lip and palate in the United Kingdom will go through their journey alone.

The Family Services Coordinator is responsible for providing families (parents/carers and children up to ten years) affected by cleft with opportunities to access accurate information, connect with each other and form supportive communities. Our Advocacy services we provide advocacy direct to children and young people in a variety of situations. Advocates around the country support children and young people to get their voice heard in decisions about their lives. This may be through the telephone helpline or through an advocate working directly with a child, for instance, to support them at a review meeting or to help them make a complaint about their care. Coram Voice provides visiting advocacy services to most of the secure units nationally, to Secure Training Centres, Juvenile Young Offender Institutions, psychiatric hospitals, residential special schools and children’s homes.

About the Role

You will work directly with care experienced children and young people and those on Child Protection Plans providing them with advocacy support in the community and a variety of settings.

You will empower and support them to ensure their voices are heard within decision–making processes that effect their lives.

You will be a capable ambassador for Coram Voice with the ability to engage effectively with professionals, carers, other stakeholders and most importantly children and young people.

We are looking to appoint an inspiring, motivated and resourceful leader to spearhead the work of Linking Lives UK as we continue to develop our crucial role in addressing loneliness and social isolation among older people across the UK. This exciting position comes at a key stage in our development as a charity as we develop new initiatives and consider future strategy and direction.

We are particularly looking for someone who has experience of:

• Strategic planning, operational management and delivering against organisational objectives
• Leadership of a national charity/ organisation and effective liaison with operational teams and trustee boards
• Delivering motivational presentations and written articles inspiring engagement with the work of the charity
• Operating within Christian faith organisations and their structures
• Building effective partnerships with key organisations whilst identifying areas of mutual benefit

Today, 12 children and young people will be diagnosed with cancer. We’ll stop at nothing to make sure they get the right care and support at the right time.  

• Salary: in London: £47,304 / Out of London: £44,753
• Hours: up to 35 hours
• Contract type: fixed term - up to 24 months.
• Location:  we really don’t mind, working anywhere in the UK from home would be fine.  There will be occasional travel to meetings in the UK (mainly in London and Bristol so you need to be able to travel there.) Depending on your location you may be able to work in a hybrid way in our Bristol or London office

About the role

This is an awesome role focussed on improving our ways of working and processes when it comes to those who support us. We want all of our supporters to have a first class experience when they decide to donate their time and/or money to supporting children and young people with cancer and their families. However we know that as an organisation we have more to do to make this happen and the time is now.

Working in Income Generation, this role will take a recently conducted diagnostic carried out by a business improvement consultant and not only work through the next steps but make change happen, prioritising the areas with the biggest wins. This role really will have a lasting legacy in the organisation.

We're not just looking for someone to map change, this person will lead operational design and process re-engineering that transforms the Income Generation directorate and it's workforce into high achievers. 

You’ll be based within the Project Management Office (PMO), a supportive team of professionals that lead transformational change across the organisation as well as corporate planning. You’ll also have close relationship with the Head of Planning and Strategy in Income Generation as well as the Associate Director Supporter Engagement.

What will I be doing?

No two days are the same at Young Lives vs Cancer. So, summarising your ‘day to day’ isn’t easy. Here are some of the main things you’ll be doing, but you’ll find more details in the job description.

• Building on the diagnostics carried out already within Income Generation directorate to optimise organisational design and scope improvements. 
• Using the diagnostics to identify pain areas, develop a sequenced plan to tackle these issues and then implement the plan to improve performance, processes and services i.e. “getting hands dirty”.
• Embedding a culture of improvement in the organisation and developing these capabilities within the workforce.
• All of these activities will involve facilitating workshops, engaging audiences with tailored communications, debating and negotiating ideas with leaders, managing governance, risks and dependencies, evaluating progress etc. 

What do I need? 

The key skills we’re looking for in this role are:

• Experience of delivering transformational change by using process improvement principles & methodologies such as TQM, Kaizen, Lean Six Sigma to design services and processes that deliver value, efficiency, higher quality, lower costs and better results
• Ability to do big picture thinking and drive the change that is needed, don’t sit back and react to the change that is happening.
• Challenging directly with assertive communication style balanced with caring deeply through consultative and listening skills. 
• Being curious,  looking beyond the obvious to get the real picture.
• Being proactive to get stuff done but in a flexible way, not being tied to a solution and having a healthy dose of pragmatism
• Strong analytical and evaluation skills.
• Creative thinker and ability to encourage innovation amongst colleagues
• Ability to deal with ambiguity and make smart decisions with limited information and changing priorities as well as support people to define issues.
