We are looking for a Fundraising Trustee that can take our fundraising to the next level. The limb reconstruction process can be long, painful and challenging for patients' mental health. Rebuild has exciting plans to expand our psychological support for these patients but we need the help of an experienced fundraiser to do this.
Main responsibilities:
- Oversee fundraising and to make sure it is carried out in legal, honest and accountable ways.
- To identify funding opportunities.
- Contribute knowledge of fundraising techniques and strategies.
- To guide and advise the Trustees in the approval of the fundraising strategy and targets.
- To keep the Trustees informed about its duties and legal responsibilities in relation to fundraising and the Fundraising Regulator.
- To assess risks in new fundraising directions and alert the Board of any concerns.
- Be an active champion of the charity.
Background:
We are looking for a Trustee who has experience in any of the following areas: charity fund raising, marketing, finance, public relations, sales.
Qualities of a Fundraising Trustee
Essential:
- Fundraising/income generation knowledge or business development background.
- A good understanding of fundraising and the UK charity sector, Charity Commission, Companies House requirements, relevant legislation and statutory requirements.
- Excellent networking and communication skills.
- Sound, independent judgement and ability to think creatively.
- An ability to work effectively as a member of a team.
- Experience in the health sector.
Desirable:
- Knowledge of digital or social media.
- Experience of diverse fundraising practices, including statutory funds, corporate and philanthropic giving.
- An understanding of the challenges facing small UK charities in maximising income streams & donor cultivation.
- Experience in the charitable or voluntary sector.
Time commitment/location:
- The Trustee Board meets 4 times a year.
- Board meeings are usually held virtually.

- To work with the Trustees outside of the Board Meeting in developing a new fundraising strategy.

Orchard House is a move on service for adults with mental health needs.
We are looking for a gardening volunteer to develop and run sessions as our service users are really keen to make use of our fantastic garden space. We have a very large back garden with space for growing plants and vegetables.
We are looking for people who have a good knowledge of gardening, in particular growing and looking after plants and would like to pass on that knowledge. The gardening sessions will run on a weekly basis and our service users will be included in the decision making. Our service users love to go out walking and we’d like to set up a weekly walking group. We are looking for a volunteer to act as leader for the group, and map out interesting local routes to enjoy some fresh air around the parks of Salford and the surrounding area.
As part of your role, you will plan the route of the walk, ensuring comfort breaks are included. The Scunthorpe office is located close to the train station. We support adults with Learning Disabilities and Mental Health in our services around Scunthorpe.
We are setting up a fortnightly coffee morning at our office in Scunthorpe to be attended by our Services Users. We’re looking for volunteers to help our staff set up and run the coffee morning and help tidy away at the end of the session. ABOUT THE ROLE
The role of the Trustees is to develop Scouts in keeping with its charitable objectives and in the parameters of good governance. We are particularly looking for a Trustee to contribute their extensive senior level skills and experience in the area of Safeguarding and to Chair the Safeguarding Committee.
Main responsibilities
- To take part in formulating and regularly reviewing the strategic aims of the organisation, and in providing direction for its ongoing development, in accordance with the Bye Laws.
- To provide support as the Board’s safeguarding-focussed Trustee contributing specialist skills, experience and knowledge as required.
- With other Trustees, to ensure that the policy and practices of the Association are in keeping with its aims.
- With other Trustees, to exercise effective control, ensuring that the Association functions within the legal and financial requirements of a charitable organisation and strives to achieve best practice.
- With other Trustees, to fulfil all other duties as laid out by law and in accordance with the Bye Laws.
- To chair the Safeguarding Committee which is responsible for the strategic oversight and challenge to the organisation on the discharge of its safeguarding responsibilities.
Main duties
Developing and reviewing strategic aims
- Consider the Association’s strategic plans and make sure they reflect safeguarding legislation, relevant regulations, statutory guidance, and the safeguarding expectations of the Charities Commission
- Work with the senior staff and volunteers to regularly review whether the practice of the Association is creating a safer culture and keeping people safe.
- Check that the Association’s risk register reflects current safeguarding risks appropriately and has put in place effective risk mitigations.
- Abide by the principles laid down in the person specification (and code of conduct).
- Attend meetings of the Trustee Board and the reporting committees (frequency varies).
- Reflect the Scouts’ vision, strategy, major policies and values at all times.
- Contribute specific skills, experience and contacts in support of our activities.
Ensuring policies and practice are effective and in keeping with aims
Make sure there is an annual review of safeguarding policies and procedures and that this is reported to trustees.
- Scrutinise the performance of the Association relating to safeguarding to see whether policies and procedures are effective.
- Make sure there is a regular effective (internal and external) quality assurance framework using qualitative and quantitative data to monitor the effectiveness of safeguarding practice.
- Learn from case reviews locally and nationally, to improve the Association’s policies, procedures and practices.
- Reflect the Trustees’ policies and concerns in all interactions with the Movement.
- Assist in the implementation of the Association’s strategic goals.
Creating the right culture
- Champion safeguarding throughout the Association.
- Attend relevant safeguarding training events and conferences.
- Support the trustees in developing their individual and collective understanding of safeguarding.
- Attend meetings, activities, projects to engage with staff, volunteers and young people to understand safeguarding on the ground.
- Support regular safeguarding updates for staff, volunteers and young people.
- Make sure you have ways of gathering the views of staff and volunteers in relation to safeguarding and sharing these with the Board.
- Work effectively as a team member of the Trustee Board in exercising its responsibilities and functions.
- Protect the assets and integrity of the charity, with regard to best practice.
- Maintain good relations with Association staff.
- Fulfil such other duties and assignments as may be required from time to time by the Trustee Board.
- Engage with members of the Movement at other levels in the organisation.
THE PERSON
As a Trustee of the Board, you should be able to demonstrate and provide evidence of the following criteria listed under Part 1 within your written application. This will be tested further at the preliminary interview stage, along with the criteria listed under Part 2.
We are particularly interested in applications from candidates with strategic safeguarding experience in sectors such as Social Care (e.g. service manager to director role experience), Health (e.g. deputy or chief nurse experience), Police (e.g. Superintendent to Chief Constable experience) and Education (e.g. Head Teacher experience).
Part 1
- The successful candidate will be able to give evidence of:
- A record of proven and significant achievement and executive background in operational and strategic safeguarding.
- An understanding of the type of work undertaken by the Association and commitment to the values and ethos of The Scout Association.
- Successful experience of operating on a board or a major committee in a charitable, public sector or commercial organisation.
- Demonstrable experience of building and sustaining relationships with key stakeholders and colleagues to achieve organisational objectives.
- Confident and effective communication skills with a range of audiences, including Trustees, the Chief Executive, senior staff, senior volunteers and others, and the ability to challenge in a constructive way.
Part 2
- An understanding of how to motivate and enthuse volunteers.
- A proven track record of sound judgement and effective decision-making.
- An understanding of the respective roles of the Chair, Trustees, UK Chief Commissioner and Chief Executive.
- A track record of commitment to promoting inclusion, equality and diversity.
- Wider involvement with the voluntary sector and other networks.
- Enthusiasm, energy and time to commit to this role.
Other essential criteria
- Commitment to attend four Board of Trustee meetings each calendar year, one of those will be a two-day residential held over the weekend).
- Attendance at the Annual General Meeting of the Council (AGM) held in the first week of September each year (this will be on a Saturday).
- Availability to chair the Safeguarding Committee, who meet four times per year. Three of these meetings are virtual and outside 9-5 working hours – the fourth meeting will be a full-day face-to-face session.
APPOINTMENT TERM
Appointments are typically for an initial three-year term, with the possibility of a further term of three years subject to a satisfactory appraisal.
REMUNERATION AND EXPENSES
In common with other registered charities, there is no remuneration directly associated with the role, although the Association will reimburse fully for all reasonable and properly documented expenses incurred in performing duties.

About the Chair Role:
The incoming Chair will be taking on this vital role at a crucial time in Croydon Almshouses’ growth and development as an organisation. There is an understanding that this will require strong leadership from the CEO and Chair, with and the Chair playing a crucial role in ensuring strong governance and a supported staff team.
Purpose of the post:
* To ensure the proper governance and strategic oversight of the Charities
* To secure the delivery of the Charities’ agreed plans and objectives, in partnership with the CEO and staff.
* To support and, where appropriate, constructively challenge the CEO and hold them to account for their performance and hold them to account for delivery of the Charities’ plans in accordance with agreed KPIs.
Responsibilities will Include:
* To provide leadership to the Board and ensure that Directors fulfil their duties and responsibilities for the proper governance and strategic direction of the Charities.
* To safeguard the long-term future of the Charities by ensuring effective stewardship of the Charities’ resources.
* To uphold and promote the highest standards of corporate governance, in line with current best practice.
* To ensure the Board as a whole works in partnership with the CEO and staff, while respecting their responsibility for the operational management of the Charities.
Time Commitment:
Estimated at around 1.5 days a month
The expected time commitment is four Board meetings per year (face to face), one half strategy day and some ad hoc project work.
The Chair is also expected to:
* hold meetings (either by Teams, phone, or in-person) at least monthly with the CEO to plan the Board’s business and to manage their performance in the delivery of the Charities plans;
* meet each of the Directors at least annually to discuss and obtain feedback, and offer support;
* be available to act as a sounding board for, and advise, the CEO on the handling of particular issues; and
The almshouses are a community of Directors, staff and residents and attendance at at least two community events is expected.

Role Overview:
Are you passionate about social media and eager to make a difference? We’re seeking a dynamic Volunteer Social Media Coordinator to champion our online presence and drive our mission forward. You’ll be the creative force behind engaging content that promotes our educational awareness on medicinal plants rooted in science, promotes our programme of tours, workshops and courses, energises our fundraising campaigns, and boosts sales of our products to help us survive and become sustainable.
What You’ll Do:
- Ignite our education efforts: We provide information, you craft compelling posts and campaigns to spotlight our unique science based knowledge, workshops and educational programs, showcasing how our physic garden transforms lives through nature-based learning.
- Boost Our Fundraising Drive: Develop and execute innovative social media campaigns that captivate our audience and inspire them to support our cause.
- Elevate Product Sales: Design vibrant marketing strategies to promote and sell our sustainable products, helping us to thrive and grow.
- Engage and Connect: Foster a vibrant online community by interacting with followers, responding to inquiries, and building meaningful relationships.
- Analyse and Innovate: Track the success of our campaigns with insightful analytics, using data to continually refine and enhance our social media strategies.

Are you passionate about the power of the arts to bridge generations and create meaningful change? Do you want to play a vital role in guiding a charity at the heart of the East London community?
Magic Me is looking for new trustees to join our Board and help us continue our work creating connections between generations through creative arts. This is a voluntary role, and we welcome individuals from all walks of life, particularly those from racially minoritized backgrounds, people under 30 or over 50, and those with lived experience in East London.

- Be part of something bigger: Work alongside fellow trustees and staff to challenge ageism, promote creativity, and create lasting change through intergenerational projects.
No previous trustee experience is required, as we offer full support, training, and mentorship for first-time trustees through our ‘Board Buddy’ system.
We are looking for trustees with:
- Skills in project/programme management, fundraising or the creative arts: Whether you are a creative practitioner, artist, or have experience in managing projects or fundraising, your expertise can help us enhance our creative arts programmes and reach more communities.
- A passion for our vision: We need individuals who are committed to our values and our vision of creating a world without ageism, where everyone can enjoy their unique creativity and full potential.
As part of your responsibilities, we’ll be asking that you form a new Creative Strategy Committee to provide guidance and support for the development of our arts projects, ensuring that the voices of our participants are heard at the highest level of governance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Governance and oversight: Ensure Magic Me operates for public benefit and aligns with its charitable objectives.
- Financial stewardship: Help ensure our resources are used effectively and participate in discussions on budgets and financial statements.
- Ambassadorial role: Promote Magic Me’s work to external stakeholders, enhancing our public profile.
Time Commitment & Location:
- Time Commitment: Approximately half a day per month, including quarterly Board meetings and sub-committee participation.
- Location: Board meetings take place in person in Bethnal Green, London. Committee meetings are held online.
