Our aim is to reverse the decline in freshwater biodiversity. We work to achieve this through practical conservation, scientific research, community engagement and by influencing policy. As an evidence-based organisation, we target our practical delivery work where it will make a real difference. We have projects in many parts of the UK, focused on restoring and protecting high quality habitats for freshwater wildlife.
Now, we want to enhance the current Board and bring a range of backgrounds and experiences reflective of the people we currently serve and those we would like to be serving in the future.

Now-u is a non-profit website and app, launched in July 2020 with a mission to inform, involve and inspire people to help tackle some of the world's most pressing environmental and social problems related to i) human rights and welfare, ii) protecting the world around us, and iii) preserving our species and the planet.
Through promotion we also engage with users of our app and website. By giving people actionable opportunities to help further the cause of our chosen campaigns (i.e. donating to certain charities, writing to your local MP, links to sign petitions), we work to create an engaging space whereby anyone can help contribute and tackle some of the challenges we face today.
The role
We are looking for a Researcher to join our Campaigns team. The role will involve researching a range of important social, economic, and environmental issues, and then writing up your findings in a way that’s informative yet engaging. Supporting both the Head of Campaigns and Campaign Manager, our Researchers are essential to the creation of all content within the now-u app.
What you will be doing
Our Campaigns span every issue imaginable – from LGBTQ+ rights to anti-racism, from saving our oceans to promoting sustainable transport, and from helping those in poverty to protecting refugees. As one of our Researchers, you will be charged with not only providing information on these global issues, but also connecting our users with charities across the UK so that they might help make a difference. This could entail finding volunteering opportunities, reliable donation points, or petitions that need signing – the possibilities are endless.
Once the research is done, you will need to curate your findings into what we call a ‘Campaign’ and produce copywriting that sets out the Campaign’s purpose in a way that will affect our users and inspire them to get involved – and then to return to the app again and again!
We also have a news section within the app, sharing articles on the most important issues. We are looking, therefore, for someone that keeps an eye on the various media platforms, knows what’s happening, and is able to be reactive to the latest stories for publishing.
Other responsibilities may include working with our partnerships and social media teams to ensure that our partner charities are being effectively supported and that key Campaigns are being shared across our channels.

What you will need
To be successful in the role as a Researcher, you will ideally have experience working in content – either as a writer or researcher – or working for a non-profit organisation. As a team made up entirely of volunteers, we are self-motivated and proactive about getting our work done with a shared passion for the app’s potential to have a real impact. You are creative with a flair for language, but simultaneously analytical and strategic about your approach to a task.
Our working hours are flexible, usually 3-5 hours a week, and the Campaigns team likes to get together once a fortnight to discuss what we’re working on and any upcoming priorities.

London Canal Museum is seeking volunteers to help maintain and innovate the museum’s publicity and marketing activities.
The museum is active on Time Out, London Planner, various Newsletters, What’s On websites, travel blogs, etc – as well as social media, but lacks a dedicated resources to keep these communications up-to-date and pro-active.
The objective is to ensure What’s-On sites and tourism publications, local organisations, bloggers, press and the general public are kept aware of what’s happening at the museum, and of course, with the aim to sustain and increase visitor numbers throughout the year.
In addition, the museum would like to research the ‘blogosphere’ to create a new contact lists and grow relationships with influencers in the travel/entertainment and ‘things to do in London’ sector.
Applicants are welcome from prospective volunteers with a sales, publicity, PR or marketing background who are either self-starting or work efficiently and effectively under direction.
Experience in consumer-facing or entertainment/cultural/visitor attraction businesses is preferred, but not essential. A working knowledge of Canva would also be an advantage.
Task requirements will likely be variable, but the equivalent of 1-2 days per month availability would be ideal – typically remotely, but with occasional visits and meetings as required at the museum. Initial engagement with the role and familiarisation with the museum and its objectives will be done at the museum.
The London Canal Museum is dedicated to educating and inspiring our visitors with the history of London’s canals – how they’ve shaped London’s development, the ordinary people that lived and worked on them, as well as the entrepreneurs, engineers and navvies who built them. We want to pass on the heritage of the canals so that future generations can learn about their impact on London’s industrial and social past, as well as today’s leisure activities and waterways infrastructure and environment. The museum’s newly acquired trip boat ‘Long Tom’ also operates guided trips on the Regent’s Canal and through the historic Islington Tunnel, widening our appeal to the general leisure market.
As a volunteer run organisation we rely on a dedicated team of volunteers to manage all areas of the museum where you will learn about the history of London’s canals, the people who lived and worked on them, and their place in the industrial revolution and London’s history, as well as the Victorian ice trade and the unique history of our building.

We are a charity that matches people who need free legal help with barristers who are willing to donate their time and expertise for those who cannot obtain legal aid and cannot afford to pay.
We are the only pro bono charity to provide access to legal assistance in all areas of law, in all courts and tribunals across England and Wales.

About the role
We are looking for two people to join the recently created management committee of BIC at a key stage in our development as we look to further expand the initiative, with a particular focus on engaging more charities and more volunteers.
We want to recruit two candidates with a commitment to volunteering and the work of BIC. We are looking for people with the following background:
1. Marketing and engagement: At present, the most important goals for Bar in the Community are to engage charities to ensure a steady stream of interesting opportunities and to engage volunteers to take on these opportunities. It is therefore essential for the management committee to be able to advise on how to promote opportunities and engage people and organisations.

- Email content: Develop our communication & marketing content calendar, write compelling regular email content, including calls for donations & support, that is relevant and has clear a call-to-action and high click through rates;
- Email content (membership): Create a regular email newsletter for our membership scheme

This is a telephone-based role that you can do from home. You will need access to a landline and/or mobile phone We ask you to commit to covering up to 3 groups per week, although this will vary on a week by week basis. Each group you cover will last for one hour.
*Listening to group conversations, ensuring they flow and are appropriate. Making appropriate contributions. Creating friendly & welcoming atmosphere. Being link between the group & Talk & Support team. Reporting safeguarding concerns.
*Effective listening skills; Good verbal communication skills; Work with wide range of people.
*Understanding Sight Loss Pack; Expenses; Supervision and help from your Manager; Training as appropriate.
