Become a Trustee of Akshaya Patra UK
Akshaya Patra, the Indian-born charity which provides nutritious school meals to more than 2.2 million children every day, is recruiting two new Trustees for its UK organisation.
Akshaya Patra UK raises awareness and funds to help sustain and grow the organisation’s support to children living in poverty across India, whilst directly running Akshaya Patra’s first international kitchen in North London, from which 700,000 meals have been served to British beneficiaries since it opened in 2020.
The UK charity recently published its ambitious new strategic plan and is entering an exciting phase of development, as it seeks to grow its UK meals programme and thereby support many more disadvantaged children across Britain to both eat well and make the most of their education.
The Trustee role
Akshaya Patra UK’s vision is a world where no child is deprived of education because of hunger. And our mission is to build a movement of people who – working together with compassion, generosity and determination – will ensure a growing number of vulnerable children can realise their full potential free from poverty and malnutrition.
To help us navigate the next stages in our vital journey, we have the opportunity to welcome two new members to our volunteer Trustee Board.
Our Trustees – in close collaboration with our CEO and staff team – draw on their diverse mix of backgrounds and skillsets to guarantee Akshaya Patra UK’s good governance, set our strategic direction, carefully steward our resources, uphold our vision and values, and ensure we always act in the best interests of those children and communities we exist to serve.
Applications are invited from those with the knowledge and experience – perhaps gained from working at a senior level in the business, public or charity sectors – needed to provide strategic insight, sound advice and constructive challenge to both fellow Trustees and the staff team.
Through offering a blend of mission-centred scrutiny and skilled support, you can contribute to Akshaya Patra UK’s continued strong governance and the expansion of our hot and nutritious meals service to many more children and young people.
Though expressions of interest are invited from all qualified parties, applications are especially welcomed from those with a background in:
- The UK education sector.
- Fundraising.
The key time commitments involved in this non-remunerated Trustee role are:
- Attendance at a two-hour Board meeting once per quarter.
- Participation in an annual strategy day.
- Nominated membership of a Board sub-committee, meeting for an hour once per quarter.
Half of all Board meetings are generally held online, with Trustees invited to attend in-person meetings in central London for the other half (with support available for reasonable expenses).
Submit your application
Please apply for this Trustee role by submitting an up-to-date CV and a supporting letter (covering no longer than two sides of A4).
As a low-cost charity with limited resources, we will only be able to acknowledge those applications from candidates we wish to take forward to interview with the Chair and potentially other Trustees from the Board’s Nominations Committee.
Thank you for your interest in Akshaya Patra UK’s mission!

Pain Concern is a charity providing information and support to people with pain and those who care for them, whether family, friends or healthcare professionals. Visit our website to find out more about what we do, including our Airing Pain radio programme, Pain Matters magazine, information helpline, community pain education sessions and our research and campaigning work.
All pain is unpleasant, but for the 7.8 million people in the UK living with long-term pain it is a part of everyday life. It diminishes quality of life more than any other condition, leading often to loss of work, depression and disability. Anyone at any age can develop persistent pain and you will very probably know somebody affected. Although there is usually no cure, people who receive the appropriate treatment, information and support can manage their condition effectively with life-changing results

Previous experience or training is not necessary. We are looking for a willingness to learn and a commitment to help. Knowledge of chronic pain while useful, is not essential. Could you be Rosa’s new Chair? Rosa is the UK’s only grant making fund dedicated to supporting women’s and girls’ organisations helping to create a society in which women and girls are safe, healthy and equal at work, at home and in public life. Over the last six years, our organisation has gone from strength to strength: growing our staff team and Board to fulfil our vision of a society in which women and girls are safe, healthy and have equal opportunities at work, at home and in public life.
We are looking for a Chair who shares our ambition to ensure adequate and consistent funding for organisations that support women and girls. Our Board is comprised of twelve dedicated and skilled Trustees with a range expertise and backgrounds and we are now seeking a new passionate and committed Chair.
Founded in 2008, our work focuses on the key issues affecting women’s and girls’ lives including violence and sexual abuse, reproductive rights and health, poverty and economic inequality and mental health and recognises the connections between them. We have channelled funding to small charities and organisations working in the most deprived areas of the UK and responded to the specific challenges faced by Black and minoritised led women’s and girls’ organisations.
This is an exciting time to join the organisation. We are currently working on our new strategy which will begin in 2025. This strategy aims to meet the evolving needs of the UK women’s and girls’ sector, leveraging our influence for its benefit and attracting diverse funders to invest in the sector.
We are proud of our strong partnerships with funders and investors and with women’s and girls’ organisations. We have a dynamic Chief Executive who leads a small, professional team to develop and deliver targeted programmes to meet the needs of the women and girls’ sector across these issues and across the UK.
We are particularly keen on hearing from those with experience as a Chair or Committee Chair, possessing strong leadership skills, and the ability to build trust, drive governance, and guide strategic planning and stakeholder engagement optimally in a charitable, non-profit organisation, public body, or equivalent organisation.
Rosa takes its commitment to equality, diversity, and inclusion extremely seriously, recognising the value that this adds to our success. Rosa reaps the benefits of having a diverse board and welcomes applications from people of all backgrounds and life experiences. We are therefore particularly keen to hear from people from across the UK, people with a variety of educational backgrounds and experiences, people from Black and Asian communities and other racially minoritised ethnic groups, and disabled people.
It is estimated that the role will require the equivalent of approximately forty days per annum, (averaged out over the course of the year). Our board meetings (three online and one in person) are held quarterly in the early evenings. The Chair is also invited to join Board Committees.
The role is unremunerated, but we will reimburse all reasonable expenses.
The client requests no contact from agencies or media sales.
