To be successful in this role, we seek the following qualifications and experience:

- Must be a strong communicator throughout the organisation.
- Any additional qualification in charity finance or leadership.
- A desirable and genuine interest in mental health and/or addressing racial disparities in the mental health field.

We are excited to be recruiting a Philanthropy Manager to join our Fundraising Team. This is a new role which will be instrumental in setting us up well to grow income from major donors over the coming years. We are looking for an experienced major donor fundraiser, who can bring their skills and expertise to take this strand of fundraising to the next level. Support the continued growth of the charity as it seeks to respond to the significant need in the Reading area for mentors for fatherless boys. In particular, through providing support for the Centralised programme.

Mentors

Develop and implement a strategy for recruiting new male mentors for the Centralised programme.

Assess and train volunteer male mentors.

What will your typical day involve?
You will ensure compliance with the Health and Social Care Act 2008 and the Essential Standards of Quality and Safety. Your role involves leading the assessment, planning, and delivery of high-quality care for Residents and their Families, managing Household Managers, and ensuring 24/7 access to specialist nursing support. You will also drive the development of dementia care skills, implement the Nightingale Hammerson’s care governance framework, and oversee clinical supervision and training programs.
Your duties will include delivering safe, effective care, managing staffing, performance, and budgets, and ensuring effective communication within Nightingale Hammerson and with external agencies. Respecting Jewish cultural practices and supporting care service development and strategic planning are key aspects of your role.
In terms of clinical responsibilities, you'll balance administrative and clinical duties, manage care practices, and oversee medication and safeguarding procedures. You’ll work with medical teams and foster effective communication and mentorship within the multidisciplinary team.
You will also support practice development and ensure compliance with training requirements, facilitate student placements, lead clinical supervision, and stay updated with advancements in dementia care. Who are we looking for?
The ideal candidate must be a Registered General Nurse or RMN with a recognised management qualification or degree. Essential experience includes at least three years managing nursing services in an NHS or social care setting, or two years as a registered manager. You should also have experience in staff training, quality process management, managing diseases among older people, budget management, and project management. Experience at H/I grade level in the NHS, clinical audit, and dementia service development is required.
You must have up-to-date knowledge of clinical and social care for older people, relevant legislation, and nurse registration requirements. Key skills include strategic thinking, staff motivation, effective communication with residents and colleagues, and the ability to manage workloads and policies. Proficiency in care planning and computer use is also required.

Reporting to the Chairman and Trustees, the appointed candidate will play a leading role in turning that aspiration into reality at this volunteer-staffed site.
Nantgarw China Works is where the world’s finest porcelain was made 200 years ago. Today it is an independent museum telling the history of ceramic production at the site, a working pottery where the lost recipe for making the historic porcelain has been successfully recreated, and an educational institution offering some 500 workshop sessions every year. The remains of the historic works are the best preserved in Wales and of UK importance.
Although the initial appointment is for 18 months, we hope that the appointee can be considered for a permanent position.

RESPONSIBILITIES
People (HR)
- Manage and maintain HR policies, procedures and practices including the employee handbook, ensuring they are up to date, recorded, filed and adhered to (i.e. personnel contracts, DBS, volunteers, holidays, sick leave)
- Develop and implement new systems, policies and processes that support anti-oppression, care and inclusion.
- Ensure that Wen is compliant, abiding by relevant legislation (including GDPR) and arrange training for staff as needed
- Oversee recruitment, onboarding, staff development and all other people processes
- Ensure appropriate support and supervision is in place for all staff, including overseeing training for all staff

Places (Office management and IT)
- Ensure smooth running of Wen’s main office to ensure it provides a welcoming, efficient and safe space to work in, ensuring health and safety procedures are implemented and maintained with help from the Operations Assistant.
- Utilise the Core Operations budget with help from the Operations Assistant to ensure Wen is maintaining photocopier, stationary supplies, liaising with our landlord about rent, maintaining phones, health and safety, fire procedures, utilities, rates and insurance.
- Oversee the IT Coordinator to ensure licenses are up to date, IT issues are solved promptly and IT developments and changes across our two sites and hybrid team are tracked
Finance
- Work with Finance Manager and Head of Organisational Development to establish strong financial processes and policies and ensure staff are aware of the relevant ones
- Liaising with our Finance Manager on day-to-day accounting as and when necessary
- Managing the Core Operations budget including approval of expenditure (as a signatory) and cashflow preparation for the coming financial year
- Checking and collation of monthly payroll information
People Support
- Managing the Operations Assistant and IT Co-ordinator.
- Supporting volunteers as required and oversee managing our volunteer database.
- Supporting Wen team with HR and other Operations-related matters.
Along with any other reasonable tasks and duties deemed relevant to the role.

ABOUT THE ROLE
We are looking for a community organiser with a strong project management background, or a project manager who has trained as a community organiser to help us grow a new project, The Help Desk, while overseeing our Open Collective service. Open Collective is a platform which enables groups to transparently and collaboratively manage their funds. We fiscally host around 600 groups using OC – they are supported by a Programmes Assistant, who would be managed by this role. This will give you oversight of the service and provide you valuable insights into the needs of groups.
The Help Desk is a new project in SCN which will support our growing community of grassroots groups and movements within our ecosystem. Over the next 4 years, we are planning to build a strong, vibrant and supportive community amongst our groups, with access to resources, training and mentorship/networking and fundraising opportunities. You will be responsible for project managing the build-out of the Help Desk and developing and organising the SCN community. This includes monitoring progress and reporting against the funding secured. While some plans and activities have already begun, you would be expected to further shape the vision of the Help Desk, pivoting in response to feedback and learnings.
You will work closely across the Delivery Team to ensure that the Help Desk is relevant to the different types of groups we host, as well as the Head of Programmes, who you will support in consolidating insights for sharing with partners. Together with the Business Development team, you will also be responsible for exploring the income streams required for the following 5 years. You will also be managing the overall project budget alongside managing mentors, staff, volunteers, interns, and leaders, where appropriate.
ABOUT YOU
The role would suit someone that understands the needs of community groups and the pressure and challenges they face as they scale their impact, while also having agile and creative project management skills. A large part of the role is getting to know the groups and to support both the development of network weaving across the groups and building out the resources they need. Because of this, you will enjoy connecting with people from different backgrounds, and have good problem-solving skills.
As you will have oversight of our Open Collective service, you will need to have some understanding of how community groups could use tech platforms to support their infrastructure and how this can relate to their impact. You will also be managing one member of staff and while you will be given training and support, some management experience is desirable.
The ideal candidate will have a positive attitude and be open to learning and growing with us as we build our programmes and services. On top of seeking out partnerships and opportunities that will help SCN better support its community groups, you will be regularly holding spaces for groups to connect and feeding back any relevant insights to the team. You should have a good understanding of the power dynamics and community trauma that exists at this level of organising and be able to act as a bridge between SCN and the social impact of the groups.
As a small team working directly with the groups and to a project plan, you will be outgoing, proactive, very organised and good at managing various tasks at the same time. You will be keen to make an impact in a small team and be hungry for searching out opportunities to develop yourself, the Help Desk and the business.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
As Programme and Community Development Lead, you will be responsible for supporting and building out the community of grassroots groups and movements across all of SCN. This may involve organising events, further developing our communications, seeking out and maintaining partnerships with relevant service providers. Note that this is a new and emerging role and you will also be expected to help input on its direction depending on the needs of the groups and the opportunities in the sector. The role will involve:
- Project Design, Planning & Reporting – 25%
- Be responsible for the build-out of the Help Desk (project plans, timelines, and budget etc.) and coordinate across SCN to ensure timely delivery
- Monitor the outreach and impact of the Help Desk
- Report back to internal stakeholders (primarily the Head of Programmes and the CEO) on progress, risks, and learnings
- Draft any financial and narrative reports required by grants funding the Help Desk, with the support of the Head of Programmes
- Work alongside the Business Development team to build SCN’s profile and raise awareness of the Help Desk, e.g., by presenting at relevant events

The main purpose of this role is to oversee the design, development and delivery of CSE’s grant making to community organisations and to ensure that good practices are applied across our grant making activities. The post holder will be responsible for overseeing CSE’s grant making schemes through a combination of direct scheme management and by supporting schemes managed by other CSE staff (for example, by providing templates, guidance, quality checks, advice and relationship management).
Pay and conditions
The role is full-time (37.5 hours per week).
The starting salary for the role will be £34,788. After your six-month probationary review, your salary may increase to between £35,934-£38,229 per annum.

Specific responsibilities
An applicant appointed to the role will be expected to:
- Designing and developing high-quality grant giving schemes for a range of stakeholders (e.g. community anchor organisations, voluntary community groups, individuals and larger organisations), that enable the realisation of CSE project and programme objectives.
- Make outbound calls to clients when required, such as booking home visits, and keeping client records up to date.
- Developing and implementing a clear set of practices, and making sure they are understood and adhered to, in order to identify, mitigate and monitor potential risks associated with our grant giving projects.
- Maintaining tailoring and adapting our standard documentation (for example, grant agreement template; application form; eligibility criteria; payment form) to different grant schemes, ensuring they meet the individual needs of each scheme and remain as accessible as possible.
- Ensuring efficient processes are in place for evidencing, instructing, and monitoring grant payments, administering payment processes (such as raising and/or checking grant payment requests with our finance team) and that you handle any personal data appropriately.
- Ensuring that high-quality and proportionate project management is in place across our portfolio of grant giving projects, that funders receive the updates and information they need, and grantees are well supported and able to deliver to their objectives efficiently.
- Support project teams with managing relationships directly with grant recipients, including by maintaining strong communications and acting as the main point of contact with CSE; collecting and collating monitoring data; celebrating successes; addressing concerns (for example with review meetings or action plans); escalating issues as appropriate.
- Facilitating learning, networking, and sharing between grantees, ensuring that effective monitoring, evaluation and learning practices are embedded within existing grant-making projects.
- Using learning and feedback to inform how CSE designs future grant programmes and ensure learning is shared effectively with funders with the aim of shaping the broader grant making sector.
- Staying up to date with developments in the grant making sector (including keeping abreast of legal obligations and Equity, Diversity and Inclusion practices), learning from others and continually improving and developing our systems and processes.
