Responsibilities

We are seeking a good planner with experience of helping people to identify and reach their chosen outcomes, whilst also contributing to the wider success of an established service with its inherent timeframes and capacities.

The post holder will become an active member of the Charitable Services team, promoting the delivery of life enhancing support options to people with dual sensory loss and/or their carers.  Service users will exhibit varying degrees of sensory loss, from the mild to the more profound.  We are committed to respecting and celebrating the unique personalities and aspirations of each individual service user as we work with them to identify the most empowering bespoke action plan for them.  

The officer will also have responsibility for overseeing the growth of an ongoing project to recruit and support a network of volunteers across the country, who can be co-ordinated to deliver localised marketing activities, such as attending public events on our behalf or dropping leaflets.

The main tasks delivered by the officer will be:

• To work with people with sensory loss to connect them to the services and support options that can best assist them;
• To build a friendly rapport with service users, to build trust so that they respond openly during the assessment conversations;
• To support individuals to engage with the agreed action plan and to help maintain momentum to complete the action plans
• To help individuals to celebrate their progress, to increase their knowledge and to expand their horizons.
• To develop a good understanding of the many internal and external support options available and their potential benefits;
• To develop and co-ordinate a team of volunteers to perform localised outreach activities on our behalf;
• To complete all necessary recording and reporting of service support, using our electronic systems;
• To contribute to the completion of funding reports, case stories, etc. as requested by the service manager;
• Occasionally to represent Deafblind UK at events, within online meetings and forums and to promote the service and generate service user referrals.
• To complete all training and input actively into team meetings, planning discussions and reviews.

Please note that prior experience of working with people with sensory loss is helpful but not essential for this role, as all relevant training will be provided.

Responsibilities

Strategic development and implementation

• Develop and oversee an effective PR communications strategy, including business/trade press and public affairs (EU and UN advocacy), based on ProVeg’s strategic principles, impact areas and global interventions.

Qualifications

Required:

• An excellent understanding of the plant-based and alternative protein sector and knowledge of food systems change.

• A successful track record (5+ years) in journalism (print or broadcast), marketing, or public affairs, developing and delivering strategic objectives across a range of communications channels.

• Strong track record in PR (including broadcast), marketing and/or organisational branding.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, English to native level (or C1).

• Excellent networking skills and experience in building productive relationships with key media stakeholders and influencers.

AFH has taken a leadership role on advocacy for the ongoing conflict in Gaza and has a long history of being a thought leader on the humanitarian crisis in Syria. In order to help achieve this goal, AFH is recruiting an Advocacy & Policy Manager, where the successful candidate will report directly to the Director of Communications, manage and strengthen AFH’s advocacy campaigns, and develop and build networks to support our advocacy efforts. Your accountabilities as our Advocacy & Policy Manager will include the following:

Building external relations

• Lead on creating and executing an Advocacy strategy and relationship-building plan to ensure AFH is well connected and respected amongst key stakeholders including politicians, policy makers, governing bodies, other NGOs, etc. Regularly seek new opportunities to enhance external relations.
• Represent AFH in advocacy meetings, humanitarian coordination and other forums, conferences, events, and working groups, leading as many as possible.

• Build and maintain relationships with regional advocacy groups in and around Palestine, Syria, Yemen and other contexts.

• Keep abreast of regional advocacy groups in and around Palestine, Syria, Yemen and other contexts.

• Guide and advise AFH’s head and field offices on advocacy issues and trends.
• Support our field offices with Advocacy capacity building and enhancing business development, partnerships, and institutional funding.
• Support the head office with enhancing business development, partnerships, and institutional funding, through targeted external stakeholder engagement and improving the technical branding of Action For Humanity in the eyes of potential partner institutions.

• Closely monitor the evolving humanitarian and political context in the Middle East, Asia and Africa, particularly where AFH currently operates, and disseminate written and verbal updates and analysis in a timely manner to internal and external stakeholders.
• Produce high quality public and private policy and advocacy materials including letters, briefing notes, position papers, and advocacy reports.
• Build up AFH’s advocacy work in relation to domestic programmes.
• Promote the advocacy positions of the Syria Relief brand as well as the Action For Humanity brand.

What we are looking for in our Advocacy & Policy Manager:

Education

• Degree (or equivalent) in relevant field i.e., International Development, International Relations, Public Relations, Economics, Politics.
• Evidence of sector-specific continuous professional development.

Experience

• Strong experience and track record in an advocacy or similar role.
• Experience in building strong relations and networking with key staff within various UN agencies, especially I/NGO, Forums, UN, OCHA meetings and with local ones.
• Collaborating in multi-national organisational problem solving, operations in complex organisations.
• Active participation with I/NGO Forums desirable.
• Understanding of UK political and media landscape.

You will prepare proposals, pitches, and reports based on key funding needs, and implement stewardship plans to retain support, maximising partnership value. 

• Community Fundraising: You’ll manage community-based fundraising efforts, including coordinating with other organisations. Develop new community fundraising initiatives and engage volunteers, working to maintain an established network of volunteers which support community fundraising activities.

• Events Fundraising: You will manage our fundraising events, including the London Marathon. This will include recruitment, resourcing, relationship-building and supporting our event participants in their fundraising efforts. We are also excited for you to develop and oversee other innovative and profitable one-off events. 

• Fundraising Management: You will monitor and report on fundraising activities, manage relevant website pages, and ensure effective administration and record-keeping. You’ll need to stay abreast of industry trends and react accordingly to maximize opportunities.

This role is perfect for someone progressing their corporate fundraising career, but not yet ready to specialise in account management or new business. A priority will be to ensure that we really support and value our existing partners, but you will also have the opportunity to research and develop new opportunities with the Head of New Business. Valuing the importance of the day-to-day routine of administration, data entry etc will also be central to this role and an important responsibility.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

· Work closely with the Committee and key stakeholders focusing on a shared vision, mission of Lewisham Giving and to successfully deliver the strategy.

· Produce an annual plan of work that sets out the key priorities and activities for Lewisham Giving and is approved by the Committee

· Proactively establish and nurture a network of businesses, residents, community organisations, and individuals who will contribute time, money, skills, opportunities and connections to ensure a sustainable Giving model for Lewisham.

· Commission or carry out research as necessary to understand unmet need and inform plans to maximise impact.

· Further develop the giving model for Lewisham through co-design with residents and other relevant agencies and monitor and report on their impact.

Reporting to our Corporate Partnerships Manager, but also working closely with our Business Development Manager, you’ll support them both to deliver our annual volunteer targets and maintain our strong partner retention rate (currently 88%).
