The members of the Society comprise a fellowship of those interested in the very many diverse aspects of Morris’ life and artistic output – ranging from his famous wallpaper and tapestry designs, through his stained-glass and literary works, to his perhaps less-well known political activism. With something for everyone, we are a diverse membership – from across the UK and further afield.

We combine our broad and international appeal with a strong local presence in Hammersmith based on the contribution of Morris to the arts & crafts movement and grassroots politics during his time living at Kelmscott House – the Coach House of which is today run by the Society as a museum. We work with organisations across the London Borough of Hammersmith & Fulham, including the Council from whom we receive an annual grant.

A wide-ranging and rewarding role, the Director of The William Morris Society and Museum is responsible for leading the strategic direction, operational management, and financial sustainability of the charity. This involves overseeing museum operations, exhibitions, public programmes, membership services, and commercial activities, managing a small team of staff and volunteers. The postholder will be required to secure renewal of Museum Accreditation and, in consultation with the board, to develop and implement a new Strategic Plan.

Essential Criteria:

• Proven leadership experience in the museum or cultural sector or membership societies.
• Strong financial management and fundraising skills, including experience with budgeting, grant writing, and commercial activities.
• Experience in developing and delivering strategic plans and managing major projects.
• Demonstrated experience in managing teams, volunteers, and facilities.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
• Ability to manage risk and ensure compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.

Desirable Criteria:

• Experience managing historic buildings and conservation projects.
• Knowledge of William Morris and his legacy.

Senior Programmes Officer: Local First

The role

As Senior Programmes Officer you will closely with our peacebuilding partners to help deliver an ambitious new programme of work. 'Local First: Transforming the Peacebuilding System' will support local peacebuilders in Mali, Afghanistan, Sudan and eastern DRC to increase prospects for sustainable peace.

Through Local First, Peace Direct will work with policymakers and power holders, supporting them to understand the dysfunctions of the peacebuilding system, and find ways to better support locally-led peacebuilding.

This role is responsible for developing and managing partnerships within the four countries, with initial emphasis on Mali. You will work closely with our other SPOs who manage partnerships in the four countries, and create and manage opportunities to bring partners together to learn from one another. You will also support the development, coordination and delivery of Local First, working closely with the International Programmes Manager and Peace Direct’s Netherlands Office Representative.

• Coordinate and support partnerships with local peacebuilding actors based on mutual accountability and trust. This will require working proficiency in French as well as English.  
• Support the management, coordination and delivery of a complex, multi-country programme across four conflict-affected countries

• Contribute to organisational learning and the roll-out of our learning loop

Your Role: Membership, Programmes and Events Support Assistant (Fixed Term Contract)

Contract: Fixed Term for six months - November 2024 to April 2025. We are open to applications from a PhD student or Early Career Academic.

Hours: 21 (0.6FTE). The post holder will also be expected to attend and support the PSA25 Annual Conference taking place in Birmingham from 14 -16 April 2025. 

Salary:  0.6 FTE of £25k. The post holder will additionally be compensated for in-person attendance and providing support during the Annual Conference period.

Location: All roles are based at our offices in Camden London but the PSA currently supports its staff to work remotely. Post-holders will be required, however, to come into our offices regularly (normally once a week on a Wednesday). The Membership, Programmes and Events team is a friendly bunch who work closely together with responsibility for operations and output across a wide range of our activities. These include: membership, networks, specialist groups, programmes, communications, events including the Annual Lecture and PSA Annual Conference. We are looking for someone to join the team in the six-month run up to, and including attendance at, the PSA25 Annual Conference which is our major event of the year.

Your role and responsibilities:

In terms of the PSA Annual Conference these may include, but are not limited to:

· Responding to standard/general conference email enquiries

· Communicating information and instructions to all participants

· Supporting logistics, operations and communication of information to participants via Ex Ordo (abstract management system) and our virtual conference platform

· Monitoring Ex Ordo data - for example, identifying whether someone is a paper-giver or not and emailing participants for clarification where necessary

· Communicating information and instructions to all participants

· Supporting exhibitors by communicating deadlines and details for their conference space

· Organising catering requirements to cover the conference schedule

· Sourcing venues and menu choices for the Conference Dinner and Conference Drinks events

· Supporting the award of PSA academic prizes including production of certificates

· Monitoring the Prizes in-box and helping with the response to any enquiries

· Collating Academic Prizes nominations made via JotForm for trustees and prize judges

· Joining the team in Birmingham to manage the Annual Conference, including the one-day Undergraduate conference

· Supporting the reconciliation of membership data in readiness for our new database

 This is a new role at the DEC and developed as a key part of the DEC’s 2024-2029 strategy. The DEC has a wide range of established relationships with trusts and foundations, many of which give 6- and 7-figure sums to DEC appeals. The Trusts & Foundations Manager will be responsible for providing excellent stewardship to our portfolio of trusts and foundations. In addition, the role will also be responsible for cultivating new relationships for the DEC through thorough research, and through the prospect development cycle, to raise money for DEC appeals. In addition to appeal fundraising, the Trusts & Foundations Manager will be responsible for delivering on a new core cost fundraising strategy, in close partnership with the Head of Philanthropy & Partnerships.

Demonstrable, transferable trusts and foundations experience and knowledge, (preferably within the humanitarian & charity sector), will hold you in good stead for this exciting new role.

Key responsibilities include:

Strategic Development: Develop and manage the trusts and foundations portfolio and create compelling proposals for future appeals and core costs income. Showcase new ideas and innovative approaches for growing and developing a pipeline of new prospects. Develop engaging stewardship plans.  

Administrative Compliance: Lead and manage, robust and professional grant management, ensuring systems and processes are fit for purpose, streamlined and accessible. Remain compliant with grant terms and conditions, ensuring you are clearly communicating the unique contours of the DEC model whilst providing comprehensive and inspiring impact reporting.

Relationship Management: Maintain regular contact and collaboration with internal teams to collate a high-quality suite of communication materials and stewardship plans specific to a trust and foundation audience. Monitoring and Evaluation: Monitor, measure and evaluate progress against the DEC’s strategic goals and funds raised from trusts and foundations. About the role:

We have a new opportunity for a highly organised individual to join our Housing Services Team, as a Housing Services & Income Administrator. With proven skills and experience of using IT and databases related to administrative tasks such as producing letters and reports with a clear focus on organisation skills, you will play an essential role with supporting the Housing Services team and Manager, and our supported accommodation teams.

In your role, you will be responsible for

• Maximising rental income and minimising loss through bad debts through efficient application SHP Procedures.

You will work closely with the duty scheme team, especially the Duty Scheme Co-ordinator (DSC), to provide efficient and time-sensitive administrative support to the scheme. You will be a key first point of contact for our duty scheme, having daily direct contact with people seeking assistance, referring agencies, the AST court admin team, ASAP staff, duty scheme advocates (DSAs) and the Home Office.

Position

This role is part of a small team that forms the secretariat for two vibrant, dynamic networks of mission-driven asset owners: the Charities Responsible Investment Network (CRIN) and the Responsible Investment Network – Universities (RINU). We support members to align their investments with their social and environmental missions and values through a tailored programme of networking, advocacy and educational activities. The networks are unique spaces, enabling members to collaborate, share best practice and be leaders at the cutting edge of thinking around what it means to be a responsible investor.

You will make a significant contribution to our team by supporting the design and delivery of our annual workplan for CRIN and RINU and engaging members to participate in network activities. You will be key to ensuring the smooth running of the secretariat, including monitoring and evaluation to ensure that our work is as impactful as possible.

The secretariat sits in ShareAction’s Investor Engagement team, which engages with a range of actors to develop and drive up standards of responsible investment. You will work closely with the Senior Engagement Manager (Asset Owner Networks), who manages the work of the networks, and with the Senior Research Manager (Investors), who supports members to leverage research and analysis, and engage with their financial service providers, such as asset managers and consultants.

In this fast-paced role, on a day-to-day basis, you might be:

• Designing new projects (such as an educational workshop or advocacy initiative) for our annual workplan of activities.
• Responding to enquiries from and holding meetings with members or prospective members (foundations, trusts, operational charities, universities and colleges).
• Organising quarterly member meetings, as well as other workshops on topics such as participatory decision-making in investment, artificial intelligence and responsible investment, or divestment and the arms trade (scheduling, agenda drafting, note taking, facilitating discussions and coordinating follow-up actions).
• Writing case studies or articles to showcase the cutting-edge work of members.
• Conducting small research tasks and drafting discussion papers to inform members of responsible investment approaches and best practice.
• Sending emails to members informing them of relevant events, news and research.
• Designing and sending surveys to collect data on members and their impacts.
• Updating records, including information on members and their investments, their participation in network activities, and their payment of invoices.

This is a fixed-term role for 12 months where you will work full-time, or we would consider part-time hours of 0.4 FTE (4 days per week).

What you’ll bring to the team

We’re looking for someone with excellent organisational, communication and interpersonal skills. You’ll be confident in managing projects and events and comfortable in a fast-paced work environment, working across multiple different projects. You’ll be enthusiastic about movement building and working collaboratively as part of a network and able to develop good relationships with a range of internal and external stakeholders. You’ll have a proven ability to communicate well with a variety of different audiences.

While we hope we’ll find someone with the majority of the skills and experience on the person specification, we’re really keen to hear from you even if you don’t have them all. This is a varied role, and we’re looking for someone willing to get stuck in and learn: you’ll have the opportunity to develop and hone skills in network building, relationship management, project management and research.

We’re not looking for someone from a specific sector: you may have some experience in the charity or university sector, in environmental and/or social justice campaigning, or working on corporate or financial sector standards. You may be at an early stage in your career or someone with more experience who is looking for a change. Most importantly, you’ll have a real passion to make a positive difference for people and planet and be excited to shape the work of two networks at the cutting edge of thinking around what it means to be a responsible investor.

We are currently formalising our hybrid working policy; however, there is an expectation that you will be able to attend the London office or meetings at least four times a month. This role will require close collaboration with colleagues and network members, so it is important that the successful candidate can join us in person when required.
