Combat Stress is the UK's leading mental health charity for veterans. For over a century we've been helping former service personnel deal with issues like post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), anxiety and depression. Today we provide specialist treatment and support for veterans from every service and conflict, focusing on those with complex mental health issues related to their military service. We provide a range of community, outpatient and residential mental health services to veterans with complex mental health problems. We provide services in-person, and via phone and online.
About the role:
We are looking for a motivated, vibrant and focussed Donations Assistant to join our busy Individual Giving Team. This position will be based at our head office in Leatherhead, but hybrid working is available.
As our Donations Assistant it's your responsibility to process all online charity donations and trading arm payments. You will also be taking donations over the phone, answering supporter queries and helping to process offline donations during our busy periods. Supporter Care is at the heart of all we do, and this role is pivotal in ensuring that all our supporters receive the best possible experience and feel part of the Combat Stress family.
The successful candidate will have a keen eye for detail and possess excellent organisational skills. You need to be approachable, responsive, work well within a team and be able to apply a common sense approach to solving day to day problems. An intermediate level of knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word is essential. Previous experience working with online donation sites like JustGiving, or a charity CRM like Raiser's Edge would be an advantage.

As Director of Services and Grants, you will be responsible for ensuring that our multi-channel services and grants programme serve and improve the lives of older people, reach those who are most likely to be in poverty, and have the maximum impact. You will help us grow our capacity, build our network of charity and commercial partnerships, develop our external training offer, and reach more people including those groups most likely to experience financial hardship.
Having operated at a senior level, ideally as part of a Senior Leadership Team, you will be an inspiring leader with a demonstrable passion for our cause. Experienced in successfully managing service transformation and development, including in a contact centre environment, you will also have an understanding of grants programmes, and of building strategic partnerships and national networks. With an understanding of demonstrating and reporting on impact, experience of supporting fundraising for services and bidding for contracts, you will ideally also have knowledge of developing an external training offer.

This is a full-time role, 35 hours per week, which you can choose to work over five days a week or a 9-day fortnight.

About the role
This is an important role within our legacy and journeys team, part of an established and successful individual giving operation. This role is responsible for the delivery of campaigns to promote legacy giving and to raise awareness of gifts in wills to both existing charity supporters and new audiences.
There’s huge potential to grow the charity’s income from legacy gifts. In this role, you’ll get the chance to work across an exciting and varied range of activity, including DRTV and our supporter newsletter. About you
You’ll have worked in a similar environment such as fundraising. You will have gained experience in running direct marketing activity to generate response, working with suppliers and in-house teams to reach target audiences.
You’re super organised with excellent communication skills, comfortable managing external suppliers and in-house stakeholders to deliver campaigns to plan and against budget.
Working across a range of channels, including direct mail, telemarketing, DRTV, legacy events and digital, you will understand the importance of good stewardship in developing loyalty to a cause.
