What will you be doing?
You will join a Board of Trustees who support the organisation in their governance role, through strategic planning support and as ‘critical friends’ to the leadership team. Trustees will be asked to commit to:
- Endeavouring to be available for up to 7 meetings per year with a requirement to attend at least 50%.
- Endeavouring to be available for the annual Board Away Day
- Be able to respond via email to discussion and potential issues between board meetings
- Complete a programme of mandatory training, proportionate to the role, renewed every three years
- Attend an annual review with the Chair

If I join Shared Lives South West as a trustee what can I expect?
You will help enrich the lives of people we support by becoming a part of this friendly charity known for providing high-quality support to people as recognised by our recent “Outstanding” CQC award. You stand to also enrich your own life through the empowering and satisfying sector of volunteering as well as having access to training and development opportunities through SLSW. This is a voluntary post and would be offered subject to satisfactory references and DBS check. Voluntary, with travel and other reasonable expenses payable.
You will be joining an enthusiastic and committed team of trustees. Induction and training for the role will be provided. The appointment will run for three years and be subject to an annual review with the Chair of the Board. Two further terms of three years may be agreed upon. You will be required to sign a confidentiality agreement, declare any relevant business interests and complete an insolvency check as well as a charity-related parties register prior to your first Board meeting. You will be required to declare, on an ongoing basis, any further relevant business interests and/or conflicts of interest that may arise.

Board meetings are held four times a year in Oldbury with two being longer ‘away day’ sessions and you may also be asked to join a Committee or time limited task group.

We are now seeking to recruit new trustees to the Board. We are seeking well motivated people who have an enthusiasm for our work and can offer a commitment to our charitable purpose, person-centred values and to co-production with the people we support. We require trustees who can demonstrate vision, knowledge, skills and relevant experience. Prior experience in a trustee or governance role is not essential as we will provide personalised training as required.
We are particularly keen to attract applicants who have senior operational management experience in social care. We are also pleased to receive applications from people from other professional backgrounds or with personal or family experience of using support services and we welcome applications from people with transferable skills and experience gained in the charitable, public or private sectors.
You will contribute to the effective governance and oversight of our organisation and to developing our strategic direction. This will involve attending at least 6 evening Board meetings per annum (held bi-monthly), the Annual General Meeting and occasional planning days.
You will be expected to contribute to a committee relevant to your area of interest and expertise (currently these are Finance & Audit, Housing, People & Performance and Quality & Practice Development). Committee Meetings are also held bi-monthly. Board meetings are held in our Head Office in Stockport, situated close to the mainline train station, whilst committee meetings currently take place on-line.

A bit about this role
Across the UK, many cats are cared for by volunteer fosterers who provide a stable, safe and loving environment in their homes or in purpose-built pens in their gardens.
They provide vital hands-on care and accommodation to stray or abandoned cats or cats whose owners could sadly no longer keep them, and are part of a dedicated team of volunteers committed to finding new homes for cats in need. Our fosterers carry out this role with support from their local branch or centre.
Most of our fosterers care for one or two cats at a time and enjoy providing lots of TLC to those cats, who have been pre-loved or have had a difficult start in life. Some of our fosterers look after new mums and kittens and provide round-the-clock care to newborns to give them the best start in life.

North Hertfordshire Cats Protection formed in the year 2000. We cover a wide area for cat welfare (postcodes SG1 to SG7 and some areas of SG8) and we aim to help as many felines as we possibly can.
We have a small team of fosterers, some with outdoor cat pens, others fostering indoors in a spare room or whole house foster if they have no other pets.
While they are with us, our cats and kittens are health-checked, vaccinated, microchipped and neutered (if they haven't been already).
We are looking for more fosterers, as well as volunteers to help in all sorts of areas.

Time expectation
Our volunteer fosterers usually spend one and a half hours per day on average (around 10 to 13 hours per week) in this role, but this might vary depending on the number of cats or kittens in care. In order to help you feel confident in your fosterer role we ask that prior to looking after your first foster cat you complete some online cat welfare learning modules.

At Sense we know that it's not easy being a young carer or sibling of a disabled child. Their wellbeing and happiness are just as important. That’s why Sense supports activities and sessions specifically for young people aged 5-18 who have a caring role for a parent, carer, or sibling.
We run a range of virtual and in person activities throughout the month. Our sessions are based on what the young people tell us they like doing, giving them a break, and also providing opportunities to meet and develop friendships with other young people in a similar situation.
Our Siblings and Young Carers in person activity group sessions take place once a month. Activities include picnics, bowling, arts and crafts and rock climbing, enabling the young people to spend time doing fun things with other siblings and young carers with similar experiences.
You do not need to have any previous experience working with siblings or young carers as we will provide you with training and ongoing support to equip you for your role.

Practical Considerations

An essential part of getting ready to volunteer is attending a training session where you'll learn more about your volunteer role, the specific needs of children and young carers and how to keep young people on the project safe.
Your travel expenses will be covered by Sense.
You must be 18 or over to volunteer. We collect two references for this role as well as complete a Child and Adult Enhanced DBS.

Time Commitment

Trustee Vacancy
Care Ashore is a charity with a proud history. Since the 1920s Care Ashore has offered independent living accommodation, respite breaks and support to seafarers in need. Uniquely situated on a 260-acre estate in Surrey, Care Ashore provides accommodation for merchant seafarers and former members of the Royal Navy, the Fleet Air Arm, those who have worked on British Fishing Fleets and others with a maritime link.
With around 60 current beneficiary residents, the charity offers accommodation in purpose-built properties and helps to fund the support provided to beneficiaries with the commercial activities of the estate.
Following a recent recapitalisation and the appointment of a new CEO, Care Ashore is well positioned to improve the quality of the accommodation offered, enhance services delivered to beneficiaries and expand on commercial opportunities on the estate.

Unfold is an organisation running mentoring programmes for young people aged 10-25yrs old. Our mentoring supports people to identify and achieve their goals, boost confidence and connect with the wider community to meet their needs for lasting change. Mentoring runs for 1-2 hrs a week, across 12-24 sessions, where sessions can take place in person, online or over the phone.
This year in collaboration with Westminster & Kensington and Chelsea council, Unfold will be co-designing and delivering a mentoring programme for young people who has experience in care. To better meet the needs of the young people who has experience in care, we’re looking for people with and without lived experience to support in co-designing the programme.
Co-design opportunity:
We’re looking for mentors aged 18+, most of whom have lived experience of the care system, to support us in reviewing our training, resources and become mentors on the programme. For individuals who may not have lived experience of being in care, we are particularly interested if you have a background in or currently studying psychology, social work or therapy/counselling.
You’ll help revise our Mentor Training so that we can tailor it for the specific requirements of a programme for people with experience in care. To do this, you’ll complete our existing Training package and participate in 2 workshops running in October.
1) You’ll complete our online Ascend training (3 hours)
2) Complete our live training (5 hours)
3) Attend 2 workshops, each around 2 hours, to give your feedback on our online and live training modules. The workshops will be held online or in our beautiful office space in Victoria, London.
The proposed dates for the workshops are below but not yet confirmed:
- Wednesday 2nd October 5.30-7.30pm – Ascend workshop
- Saturday 5th October 10am-4.30pm – Live training & workshop
You’ll also complete our full onboarding processes for volunteers including an interview, references and enhanced DBS check.
Mentoring:
From October 2024, you will be matched with young person between aged 10-25yrs, and hold weekly Mentoring sessions for 1 hour a week. Ideally we are looking for mentors who can meet in person in Westminster, Kensington or Chelsea, but there is the possibility of holding some sessions online or over the phone.
Throughout the mentoring journey, you will attend our online monthly Mentor Supervisions to share your experiences, learnings and connect with other mentors and services – you’ll become part of an incredible community and continuously learn!

What is the purpose of this role?
The Sybil Levin Day Service is a specialist SPECAL-Led day service supporting people with dementia and their carers using the SPECAL method.
What activities might you be involved in?
- Assisting centre attendees to engage in activities.
- Serving meals and drinks.
- Helping to set up and clear away activities.
- Engaging in conversation with centre attendees.
- Volunteering in line with the Charity’s policies and procedures and adhering to the Volunteer Code of Conduct
What are we looking for?
- People with a genuine interest in the wellbeing of people with dementia.
- A friendly, sensitive and kind approach.
- Being comfortable in small groups or on a one to one basis.
- People with a commitment to using the SPECAL method at all times whilst at the centre.
When would you be needed to volunteer?
The centre is open from Monday to Friday and would like volunteers to commit to a morning or afternoon at least once a week as a minimum.
What training will you be given?
You will be given all the training you need to enable you to carry out your role. This will include a thorough Charity induction and a departmental induction to provide further information about the role. You will also be given access to our online training library to complete the training modules that are mandatory for your role.
You will receive SPECAL training prior to commencing your role.

We help thousands of cats across the UK each year thanks to our network of dedicated volunteers, staff and supporters.
A bit about this role
Across the UK, many cats are cared for by volunteer fosterers who provide a stable, safe and loving environment in their homes or in purpose-built pens in their gardens. They provide vital hands-on care and accommodation to stray or abandoned cats or cats whose owners could sadly no longer keep them, and are part of a dedicated team of volunteers committed to finding new homes for cats in need. Our fosterers carry out this role with support from their local branch or centre.
Most of our fosterers care for one or two cats at a time and enjoy providing lots of TLC to those cats, who have been pre-loved or have had a difficult start in life. Some of our fosterers look after new mums and kittens and provide round-the-clock care to newborns to give them the best start in life.

- Cleaning and looking after the cats’ environment and equipment
- Feeding, grooming and administering medication
- Spending time enriching the cats’ experience in care including; play, exercise and stroking

Time expectation
Our volunteer fosterers usually spend one and a half hours per day on average (around 10 to 13 hours per week) in this role, but this might vary depending on the number of cats or kittens in care. In order to help you feel confident in your fosterer role we ask that prior to looking after your first foster cat you complete some online cat welfare learning modules.
