Campaigner Jobs in Edinburgh
With 1 in 5 children struggling with their mental health, our surf therapy intervention is needed now more than ever. We transform the lives of children struggling with depression and anxiety. Through our 6 week course we help them to feel calm, confident, to have positive thoughts about themselves, to have higher self esteem and trust in others. We work with over 2000 children and young people across the UK every year and have reached over 14,000 over the past 14 years.
It is an exciting time to join the charity - we have a new CEO in post who has plans to take this charity to new heights - reaching even more children than ever before and we need an experienced fundraiser who can help us achieve that vision. Working as part of a small fundraising team you will have the ability to really make a substantial difference.
The role is advertised as 15 hours however there is the hope that this will end up being increased in the not too distant future. We will consider candidiates working remotely but for those based near HQ (Newquay, Cornwall) you will be able to join in with our pre work swims/paddles/coffee on the beach and our Bring and Share lunches! Headway is the UK-wide leading charity working to improve life after brain injury. We are passionate about helping people to rebuild their lives, relearn lost skills and regain independence.
We know that with the right help, at the right time, there can be life after brain injury. In addition to providing direct services to those affected by a brain injury and campaigning to raise awareness of this often-hidden disability, Headway UK supports a network of 119 local organisations who support people with brain injuries, their families and carers, within their local communities.
The services provided by each one of these independently run Headway groups and branches vary depending on local needs. They each provide a lifeline to brain injury survivors, carers and family members they support.
Safeguarding
At Headway we are committed to the safeguarding and welfare of vulnerable adults. We expect all our staff and volunteers to share this commitment. We follow best practice as set out within the Care Act 2014. All successful applicants will be subject to safer recruiting procedures and will be required to complete mandatory pre-employment checks including a DBS check and two satisfactory references.
Equality, diversity and inclusion
We recognise, value and champion diversity and inclusion. We want to ensure our staff population reflects the diverse service users that we support. For us diversity and inclusion is about building happy teams, full of people that want to learn and be inspired by each other, by our different experiences and backgrounds. Inclusion means providing the people we recruit with opportunities and valuing everyone’s contributions and perspectives.
We are also committed to removing barriers for applicants with a disability during our recruitment process, upon appointment and as an employee.
Please don’t hesitate to contact Marie Peacock, Head of Network if you need support with the application or you would like a chat about what it’s like to work with us.

About the Role
We are seeking to recruit a creative and ambitious Fundraising and Communications Officer.
As our reach and impact has increased significantly in recent years, so has our income, and this new role has been created in response to that demand. This is an exciting opportunity for a fundraiser who wants to widen, or consolidate, their knowledge and experience of fundraising, in an international context, as well as gain communications experience.
We are a very small team so the role will cover a breadth of funding streams, with a particular focus on Trusts and Foundations, High Value Donors, and Events, both special and community. It is therefore important that you have excellent writing and interpersonal skills, and solid experience of crafting successful funding applications. Alongside the Director of Fundraising and Communications, the post holder will be responsible for managing these relationships, including bespoke reporting for trusts and major donors and taking responsibility for their own portfolio of donors.
- Donor prospecting and new business: researching and generating new donor leads as well as acting on opportunities provided by our Board and others, converting prospects into supporters of our programmes.
- External communications: working alongside the Director of Fundraising and Communications, assisting in the creation of our quarterly e-newsletter and the Annual Report, managing our social media channels, in addition to other ad hoc external communications.
- Events: supporting our community and events fundraisers and assisting with the organisation of occasional special events, alongside Board members.
- Fundraising innovation: assisting in the development of creative campaigns to increase donations/recruit lapsed donors, developing products and offerings.
- Financial management and admin: maintaining our donor database and contributing to fundraising budgets and forecasts.
Person Specification
Experience of working in a smaller charity and team is beneficial as this is a very hands-on role, covering a wide range of responsibilities.
We are particularly interested to hear from candidates who demonstrate most/all of the following attributes:
- A proven, demonstrable track record of submitting successful funding applications.
- Experience in successfully fundraising from one or more of trusts, foundations, high value donors and corporates.
- Experience of community and events fundraising, including promoting events and supporting participants.
- Excellent communication writing skills.
- Personal or professional experience of a range of social media channels.
- Good IT Skills (Microsoft Office, Mailchimp, CRM systems (we use Donorfy))
- Self-motivated and able to work autonomously with a largely virtual team
