Save the Children UK has an exciting opportunity for someone with experience of working on humanitarian or international development programme operations to join us as our Start Funds Operations Officer where you will provide operations support to Start Funds portfolio of programmes and awards.

About the role

As the Operations Officer you will provide dedicated support to the Start Funds' portfolio, currently comprising the global Start Fund, Start Fund Bangladesh, Start Fund Nepal and the Ukraine locally-led pooled fund. The role will contribute to ensuring that Start Funds' awards are efficiently and effectively managed, provide support to the financial management of the Start Fund programmes, implement the fund's approach to and management of risk and compliance, and assist with procurement.

In this role, you will: 

Operational and programme management:

• Support the Start Funds Operations Advisor in maintaining effective award management processes, in close coordination with SCUK as Grant Custodian to the Start Network
• Support in ensuring that Start Funds' programmes are fully compliant with grants and contracts and managed in-line with relevant SCUK and Start Network policies and practices
• In coordination with the Start Network Assurance team, provide inputs for the implementation of the Start Funds' approach to and management of risk and compliance
• Support the Start Funds Operations Advisor in the management of audits
• Administer serious incident reports (specifically those that are fraud-related) concerning Start Funds
• Play a supporting role in the financial management of the Start Fund programmes, liaising closely with budget holders, the Finance Business Partner and the Start Network finance team
• With support from the Start Funds Operations Advisor, provide operational advice to colleagues in relation to day-to-day tasks as well as when challenges arise
• Support the Start Funds Operations Advisor and relevant colleagues in managing procurement processes, ensuring that relevant policies are upheld. Support with contract management
• Support the maintenance and administration of Start Funds systems and processes
• Support the Start Funds Operations Advisor in the development of effective ways of working with colleagues in other teams (Start Programmes, SCUK and Start Network)
• Support the Start Funds team with the coordination of meetings and events. Assist in the development of annual business plan and work-plans, and associated annual and quarterly reporting to stakeholders with SCUK and Start Network.

About you

To be successful, it is important that you have:

• Proven experience in international development/humanitarian programme operations
• Familiarity with approaches to risk management in international development/humanitarian settings
• Familiarity with financial and budget management
• Excellent computer skills including the use of EXCEL spreadsheet, word processing, presentation and ability to maintain office and management information systems
• Experience in procurement, and the management of service contracts
• Experience in award management
• Experience of working with diverse and globally dispersed teams

Purpose of Role

This is a new role within the Strategy and Governance team, a team which supports delivery of the Ramblers’ strategy through business planning, project management and impact measurement, and oversees the management of governance matters.

The purpose of the Project Manager role is to:

• Manage project teams to drive delivery of key initiatives in the business plan using best practice project management approaches. (80% of time)

• Provide a Project Management Office (PMO) function, helping to raise standards and rigour in project management across the organisation. (20% of time)

Key responsibilities

• Oversee the end-to-end project lifecycle of key projects including:

- preparing a project mandate / business case and updating as required

- identifying and tracking a clear set of measurable outcomes / benefits

- establishing and overseeing appropriate project governance arrangements

- developing a project plan setting out activities, deliverables and milestones

- identifying and managing key risks, assumptions, issues and dependencies

- preparing and managing a project budget and a resourcing schedule 

- developing and implementing communications and engagement plans, working with the comms team

Theatres Trust, the national advisory body for theatres, is looking for a Theatres Adviser with knowledge and experience of theatre buildings and the wider theatre sector, to be part of its small team of Advisers. 

Working closely with the Architecture, Planning and Theatres at Risk Advisers, you will bring your expertise as a theatre industry professional at a senior level to provide advice, guidance and signposting to theatre operators, owners, local authorities, campaign groups, developers and other stakeholders to support the resilience and wellbeing of the UK’s theatres.

• To seek out, qualify and secure new foundations to build a sustainable high value new donor and sponsorship pipeline

About you

This role is for you, if you have fundraising experience with grants and foundations as well as corporate fundraising and/or new business acquisition experience. This means you will have experience in stewarding and securing new gifts from foundations as well as researching new opportunities to apply for funds.

You will also be skilled in understanding and translating complex information and turning it in to compelling written proposals, for grants, corporate partnerships and major donors.

You will be driven to ensure that projects are delivered to the highest possible standards and be a sophisticated communicator with the confidence to build relationships with and inspire colleagues and donors.

We do require someone who is proactive, hardworking and results-orientated.

Experience of Blackbaud’s Raiser’s Edge/NXT is desirable but not essential.

Benefits

Flexible working: As a mental health charity, staff wellbeing is of paramount importance. We operate a core hours policy (10-4) to encourage flexible working and staff are mainly home based with the requirement to come into the office two days per week. The Associate Director of Local Fundraising is a senior role within the Income, Innovation and Engagement directorate; a highly ambitious and professional team which is working to grow income and strengthen the organisation’s voice across the UK as the leading end of life care charity in the UK. Marie Curie has ambitious financial growth targets and needs to drive net contribution, engagement and awareness if they are to achieve their fundraising ambitions and subsequently their service growth goals.

The primary focus of the role is to maximise the net contribution from local fundraising but also to  drive community awareness and engagement with Marie Curie.  This is a key role for Marie Curie, responsible for managing a team of over 100 people and having responsibility for over £20 million Income, the recruitment of legacy prospects, the delivery of fundraising events and the strategic approach of supporter facing volunteers.

The Fundraising teams based in communities across the UK are responsible for raising money, driving legacy sign ups, building event participation and profit and growing awareness and engagement of the need for and impact of the charity’s work amongst supporters and people who have the potential to support Marie Curie.  With all local relationships managed by this role’s teams, the post will ensure that supporters have a connected, seamless experience.

The ideal candidate will have senior leadership experience in a fundraising environment with a successful track record in increasing voluntary income or revenue. They will also have experience in developing both annual operational and three-year strategic plans, developing creative and innovative solutions and digital marketing and in working with working with volunteers and engaging local communities. This will be combined with a proven track record in managing large high-performing, geographically dispersed teams.

Key duties:
