We are recruiting a Centre Manager for Malvern Cube.  This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced, enthusiastic and community aware person with excellent people skills to manage the Centre and lead our further development.

Malvern Cube is an exciting volunteer led community and arts centre run by Malvern Youth and Community Trust, a registered charity.  At Malvern Cube, our mission is to offer an inclusive environment for Malvern people where they can come together and share a feeling of community.  We do this by:

We hire rooms to individuals, groups and clubs for educational, social and therapeutic purposes and our clientele are aged from 0 - 104!  Our annual footfall is around 3,000 (and growing!), and we have over 50 classes and activities running each week.  Our theatre space is well used by a variety of both well-known and amateur performers and we have three resident theatre groups.  We are proud of our in-house cafe, The Garden Cafe, which prepares nutritious, affordable and delicious food fresh on site every weekday, using locally sourced ingredients.  And our sister charity, Cube Youth, provides regular youth club activities and a Youth Café.

As well as our Centre Manager, the staff team includes our Administration Manager, caretaker and cafe staff.  We also have a great team of volunteers, and a strong Board of Trustees responsible for the governance of the charity. We receive no external funding and operate largely from hire income and successful applications for grant funding.

The role

As Centre Manager, you’ll play a vital role in ensuring the smooth day-to-day running of this busy, vibrant community centre and engaging with the community and hirers to present a welcoming, friendly and inclusive atmosphere. Your role will include:

• promoting Malvern Cube and what it offers, developing and maintaining a strong community presence and ensuring that the facilities are well used and hire income is maximised.
• ensuring the effective robust financial management of Malvern Cube and providing regular financial reports to trustees.
• leading and developing the staff and volunteer teams
• contributing to the development of Malvern Cube's strategic plan and leading on key aspects of its implementation.
• day-to-day interface with centre users, hirers and the general public.

Reporting directly to the Head of Service, the Operational Manager will be responsible for leading the process management of Knowsley’s Integrated Youth Service (IYS) Offer. With a strong understanding of young people’s services and a commitment to quality youth work, the post holder will create and maintain effective systems linking face to face interventions with the capturing of robust and accurate outcome measurement data.

The successful candidate will manage all aspects of the Targeted 1-1 offer as part of the IYS offer in Knowsley including line management of designated staff, financial management, and networking with other key services.

The post holder will support all aspects of the wider IYS ensuring that MYA’s internal systems which govern finance, purchasing, recruitment and quality control are followed closely, while acting as a key figure in connecting Knowsley operations with Head Office and Support Services.

About the Role

We are recruiting a new Business Development Manager (BDM) to join our team. This is a mid-senior level position in the organisation, reporting to the Deputy Head of Business Development. The successful candidate will be responsible for the sustainable growth of our Equal Education (EE) and Green Economies and Infrastructure (GEI) Portfolios working closely with technical portfolio leads. We are seeking candidates with significant experience in a business development or sales role, ideally within the international development sector.

Remuneration Package:

This role is Band D with a salary range of £43,000 - £55,000. Salary upon appointment will be commensurate with experience and in line with team members in equivalent roles.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

This is a Business Development Manager role (please see person specification below) within a cutting edge and growing international social development organisation. As a Business Development manager, you will identify and win new opportunities for the company. You will ensure and facilitate efficient bid development processes working closely with technical team colleagues, as well as finance, HR and programmes teams, to produce high-quality bids in a timely manner.

Business Development – Portfolio Management

· BD Lead on specific technical portfolios, acting as a liaison between the BD team and the technical team to proactively identify, track and win work in that technical area.

· Maintain accurate reporting of all sales activity.

· Manage a pipeline of opportunities.

· Attend donor market meetings (e.g. Early Market Engagement meetings) for relevant bids, engage in donor consultation and network with others as appropriate.

· Convene decision makers to make swift and informed decisions whether to bid or not.

· Lead on pre-positioning work to identify partners, team members and develop our approach (in collaboration with other colleagues) for new opportunities.

· Negotiate consortium roles on bids and develop a teaming agreement to reflect that.

· Lead on our response (with input from relevant colleagues) to direct approaches from clients to provide consultancy and research services.

· Regularly meet existing partners/clients to develop and maintain relationships and to proactively identify opportunities for further joint working.

· Develop relationships with potential new partners and clients.

· Play an active role in building and maintaining relationships with SDDirect’s Associates and network of consultants.

· Own and develop marketing materials that showcase portfolio work.

Bid Production

· Lead on and be responsible for technical and commercial proposal development (including budget), working closely with colleagues from our technical, project management and finance teams. For large bids, the technical and commercial roles may be performed by two people, though the technical lead will retain responsibility for the whole process.

· Produce job descriptions/terms of reference for specific roles on new programmes.

· Use company resources and networks as well as own contacts to identify and contract consultants.

· Agree and document all terms in-line with BD process.

· Ensure compliance requirements for each bid are in place, e.g. data protection, due diligence etc.

· Capture and share learning from tenders under areas of responsibility.

· Review contracts for work won against the contract checklist.

· Deliver handover to the Programmes Team for seamless mobilisation.

Communications

· Contribute to internal action to strengthen SDDirect as an organisation through participation in meetings, working groups and other fora.

System and Process 

· Support the continuous improvement of BD Team performance.

· Actively participate in development of the BD Team annual workplan and objectives, taking a lead on agreed sections.

· Actively contribute to the development of BD Team systems and processes, proactively improving them where necessary.

· Record own time as required on Kimble, SDDirect’s time management system. 

Trusts and Foundations Manager

[Trialling hybrid working: 2 days in the office per month, which is subject to change]

 This is a new role at the DEC and developed as a key part of the DEC’s 2024-2029 strategy. The DEC has a wide range of established relationships with trusts and foundations, many of which give 6- and 7-figure sums to DEC appeals. The Trusts & Foundations Manager will be responsible for providing excellent stewardship to our portfolio of trusts and foundations. In addition, the role will also be responsible for cultivating new relationships for the DEC through thorough research, and through the prospect development cycle, to raise money for DEC appeals. In addition to appeal fundraising, the Trusts & Foundations Manager will be responsible for delivering on a new core cost fundraising strategy, in close partnership with the Head of Philanthropy & Partnerships.

Demonstrable, transferable trusts and foundations experience and knowledge, (preferably within the humanitarian & charity sector), will hold you in good stead for this exciting new role.

Key responsibilities include:

Strategic Development: Develop and manage the trusts and foundations portfolio and create compelling proposals for future appeals and core costs income. Showcase new ideas and innovative approaches for growing and developing a pipeline of new prospects. Develop engaging stewardship plans.  

Administrative Compliance: Lead and manage, robust and professional grant management, ensuring systems and processes are fit for purpose, streamlined and accessible. Remain compliant with grant terms and conditions, ensuring you are clearly communicating the unique contours of the DEC model whilst providing comprehensive and inspiring impact reporting.

Relationship Management: Maintain regular contact and collaboration with internal teams to collate a high-quality suite of communication materials and stewardship plans specific to a trust and foundation audience. Proactively reach out and build long-lasting relationships with funders to reach ambitious fundraising targets.

Monitoring and Evaluation: Monitor, measure and evaluate progress against the DEC’s strategic goals and funds raised from trusts and foundations. Prepare regular reports for senior management and trustees on the development, progress and future strategic actions for trusts and foundations at the DEC.

• Providing follow-up communications with donors as needed to clarify details or provide additional information.

Deliverables

• Develop standalone, reusable proposal that can be adapted for different funding opportunities, ensuring efficiency in future applications.

Requirements

The ideal candidate (individual or agency) should possess:

• Proven experience in writing successful grant applications and funding proposals for not-for-profits.
• Strong research skills, with the ability to identify suitable funding opportunities across different sectors.
• Exceptional writing and editing skills, with a track record of creating compelling narratives tailored to funders' requirements.
• Knowledge of the healthcare, blindness prevention, or international development sectors is highly desirable.
• Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple deadlines and submissions simultaneously.

Duration of the Assignment

This will be an ongoing consultancy contract, subject to periodic performance reviews. The duration will initially be six (6) months, with the possibility of extension based on performance and funding outcomes.

Fee Structure

The daily rate is negotiable, based on the experience and qualifications of the bid writer. Additionally, there is the possibility of a commission or performance-based incentive for successfully securing large grants. This will be agreed upon in the contract negotiations.
