Key Responsibilities 

Oversee the Youth Voice programme

• Oversee the day to day running of The Mix’s Youth Voice programme, ensuring its alignment with
  The Mix’s strategy
• Lead the management of a database with 500+ young people, overseeing monthly reporting and
  data reviews
• Cultivate and maintain a safe, inclusive, and engaging environment for active youth participation
• Matrix manage a team of dedicated Youth Voice staff leads, providing guidance, support, and
  fostering collaboration
• Design and deliver Youth Voice training for all staff to equip everyone for meaningful involvement
  of young people in their work
• Advocate for the meaningful involvement of young people in all aspects of The Mix’s internal and
  partnership work from ideation through to evaluation
• Collaborate with internal teams and prominent brands and organisations to integrate youth insights
  into decision-making processes
• Lead Youth Voice projects, emphasising the amplification of young people’s voices while managing
• timelines and budgets effectively
• Ensure the effective implementation of safeguarding measures in the Youth Voice department,
  creating safe spaces for participation and maintaining compliance with safeguarding policy
  and procedure

Design engagement opportunities

• Design and implement a wide range of youth engagement opportunities, tailoring approaches to
  resonate with diverse groups of young people

  of our community strategy, offering training support and taking the lead in ensuring their success in
  these roles
• Quality assure all session plans and engagement activities across the organisation

Here at Action For Humanity (AFH), we are looking for an Advocacy & Policy Manager to join us. You will join us on a full-time basis and in return you will receive a competitive annual salary of £40,000 to £45,000. This role is remote but based in London.

AFH is an NGO that provides aid and assistance to people affected by natural and man-made disasters. Our vision is a world of crises-resilient communities. Our mission is to mobilise and respond to emergencies and critical needs through humanitarian, development and peace-building action, helping affected communities survive, recover and build a better future.

AFH has taken a leadership role on advocacy for the ongoing conflict in Gaza and has a long history of being a thought leader on the humanitarian crisis in Syria. In order to help achieve this goal, AFH is recruiting an Advocacy & Policy Manager, where the successful candidate will report directly to the Director of Communications, manage and strengthen AFH’s advocacy campaigns, and develop and build networks to support our advocacy efforts. The Advocacy & Policy Manager will also be the focal point between the organisation and policymakers, in the UK and beyond.  

The Advocacy & Policy Manager will advocate the humanitarian needs stemming from the crises in Gaza, Syria, Yemen and other contexts in which the organisation works. They will convey the voice from the ground, to various external audiences, and will build a presence there to promote the organisation’s work, which is rapidly evolving and is entering newer phases.

Your accountabilities as our Advocacy & Policy Manager will include the following:

Building external relations

• Lead on creating and executing an Advocacy strategy and relationship-building plan to ensure AFH is well connected and respected amongst key stakeholders including politicians, policy makers, governing bodies, other NGOs, etc. Regularly seek new opportunities to enhance external relations.
• Represent AFH in advocacy meetings, humanitarian coordination and other forums, conferences, events, and working groups, leading as many as possible.
• Build and maintain AFH’s relationships with influential people and authorities, including politicians and Governing bodies. Facilitate supporting regular and meaningful engagement with them.
• Build and maintain relationships with regional advocacy groups in and around Palestine, Syria, Yemen and other contexts.
• Position AFH as influential in public debates on Palestine, Syria, Yemen and other countries where AFH works, making AFH a resource for journalists and other key stakeholders covering related issues.
• Keep abreast of regional advocacy groups in and around Palestine, Syria, Yemen and other contexts.

Supporting internal stakeholders

• Guide and advise AFH’s head and field offices on advocacy issues and trends.
• Support our field offices with Advocacy capacity building and enhancing business development, partnerships, and institutional funding.
• Support the head office with enhancing business development, partnerships, and institutional funding, through targeted external stakeholder engagement and improving the technical branding of Action For Humanity in the eyes of potential partner institutions.
• Identify advocacy opportunities by working with the wider Communications and Marketing departments in the writing, editing, commissioning and disseminating of press-releases, op-eds, statements etc., to secure coverage of the organisation’s work across the media spectrum.
• Collaborate with the Marketing team to create interesting and engaging multimedia content to ensure the organisation’s marketing and brand strategies incorporates our advocacy position.
• Provide analysis to the CEO, Director of Communications and other stakeholders, including inputs and talking points for meetings, as required.
• Promote a principled approach to advocacy, policy and external relations among relevant internal stakeholders, and ensure that external messaging is evidence-based and driven by field realities.

General

• Closely monitor the evolving humanitarian and political context in the Middle East, Asia and Africa, particularly where AFH currently operates, and disseminate written and verbal updates and analysis in a timely manner to internal and external stakeholders.
• Produce high quality public and private policy and advocacy materials including letters, briefing notes, position papers, and advocacy reports.
• Build up AFH’s advocacy work in relation to domestic programmes.
• Promote the advocacy positions of the Syria Relief brand as well as the Action For Humanity brand.

What we are looking for in our Advocacy & Policy Manager:

Education

• Degree (or equivalent) in relevant field i.e., International Development, International Relations, Public Relations, Economics, Politics.
• Evidence of sector-specific continuous professional development.

Experience

• Strong experience and track record in an advocacy or similar role.
• Experience in building strong relations and networking with key staff within various UN agencies, especially I/NGO, Forums, UN, OCHA meetings and with local ones.
• Collaborating in multi-national organisational problem solving, operations in complex organisations.
• Active participation with I/NGO Forums desirable.
• Understanding of UK political and media landscape.

Duties and Responsibilities (to include but not limited to)

Leadership

· Strive to ensure that the charitable purposes of IPWSO are followed and that it delivers the public benefit set out in its governing document.

This is a senior role, reporting to the Head of Communications, Fundraising and Advocacy. It will involve contributing to our long-term fundraising strategy and identifying new funding opportunities, as well as delivering a range of initiatives including sponsored events, appeals, and legacy campaigns.

We are seeking someone with a positive and ambitious approach towards fundraising challenges, bringing creativity and energy.

The post will be part of our integrated Communications, Fundraising and Advocacy team. As well as working closely with every other member of the team, it will also involve collaborating with our wider staff team, to effectively understand our funding needs and convey these to potential donors.

We are therefore seeking someone with excellent teamwork skills, who will bring new experience and expertise, while working effectively with colleagues to strengthen our fundraising.

JRS UK places high value on encouraging refugee participation in our fundraising, and the Senior Fundraising Officer will play a key part in ensuring this.

We are seeking someone with a proven track-record in fundraising. Much of our fundraising involves engagement with the Catholic community including parishes and religious orders. A good understanding of this landscape is therefore essential.

A strong knowledge of wider trends in fundraising and relevant regulations including data protection is also important.

This is a new and exciting role in Refuge, and the post holder will be embedded within borough housing teams to facilitate the dual working that will ensure that survivors’ safety and housing needs are met. The post holder will be based within housing teams for three days a week, to help facilitate.

• Close working relationships with Housing colleagues
• Provision of specialist knowledge relating to DA for Housing Officers and Homelessness Teams to draw on
• Specialist support for survivors at the moment of crisis
• Provision of advocacy; supporting survivors to access safe accommodation
• Ongoing support from the IGVA from wider DA service, including access to group clinical supervision, casework management meetings, reflective practice sessions, one-to-one supervision from service manager

This recognises that many survivors will approach Housing at moments of crisis, when they are either considering fleeing, or have already fled.

The housing IGVA will carry a caseload of survivors and their children that require additional support. They will work closely with victims of domestic abuse from the point of crisis, to provide high quality independent advocacy and support to survivors of domestic abuse at the highest risk and their children.

They will empower survivors by providing them with emotional, practical and personal welfare support. They will ensure that survivors are provided with a safe, supportive and welcoming environment, enabling them to access their rights, make decisions and increase their life options.

The job involves informing survivors of the full range of civil, criminal and practical options that might increase their safety.

This post is restricted to women due to the nature of the role. The Occupational Requirement under Schedule 9 (part 1) of the Equality Act 2010 applies.

Overall purpose

This is a key role that will work closely with the Senior Communications Manager, Head of Public Engagement and Senior Digital Marketing Manager.

You will contribute to the implementation of our communications, engagement and fundraising strategies, ensuring that your work is anchored in our organisational and team strategic goals. You will also be closely involved in team planning, whether it’s inputting into our operational plan or sharing ideas for new campaigns. 

There are opportunities to get hands-on developing and delivering communications and fundraising campaigns to educate and inspire individuals, businesses, and other audiences. The aim of these campaigns is to help remove barriers to employment for refugees and bring about systemic change via our partnerships. Please note, we do not currently run political campaigns.

You will be responsible for creating and delivering day-to-day communications across our owned channels (social media, email newsletters, and some website content). You will also help colleagues create content for earned and paid communications that they’re leading on (press and media, digital marketing, engagement with influencers)

A team player, you will build strong relationships across Breaking Barriers so that you can source and develop content that:

• increases our visibility and influence
• showcases our impact
• inspires members of the public to help refugees build new lives in the UK
• engages and stewards our key audiences, including corporate partners, employees who advocate for refugees, individual donors, volunteers, and people of a refugee background.

You will support the Senior Communications Manager to maintain our strong brand, ensuring that all our content complies with our brand guidelines and is of a high standard.

With a good eye for detail, you will play a key role in our data management, including overseeing data on the storytelling section of our CRM, monitoring communications enquiries, and setting up and running reports. You will become a Salesforce Superuser (full training and support will be provided for this).

We are looking for a part time Information & Advocacy Community Support Worker in Scotland.  You will be home based living in the North of Scotland.

You will ensure that service users (children and adults) and their families, receive high quality support, from the point of diagnosis and throughout their journey, and will assist them to access funding, equipment and care and support that they are entitled to. You will join a team that makes a real difference to the lives of the people living with muscle-wasting conditions, and their families, in Scotland. The role will be primarily home based, but there will also be a requirement to attend outpatient clinics within the region, attend home visits where appropriate and to support responding to queries through the helpline and information inbox. Some travel will be required to attend meetings and events outside of Scotland. You will work with both statutory and voluntary organisations, clinicians, and health and social care professionals to ensure that people living with muscle wasting conditions get the care and support they need to live well and independently.

Who We’re Looking For

You have at least two years of experience in a policy or public affairs role, with a deep understanding of the UK political landscape and a commitment to gender equality. You are a creative problem-solver with the ability to quickly digest complex information, make persuasive arguments, and build relationships with diverse stakeholders. You thrive in a collaborative, fast-paced environment and have a proven ability to lead projects and campaigns.
