What is Families Out Loud (FOL)?
Families Out Loud is a small and growing charity, based in Wiltshire, which is run by a group of people who care about family addiction. We’re here to support those affected by other people’s addiction, by enabling people to speak out, without judgement. If you have lived experience of, or an interest in our cause, we’d love to hear from you!
About the Role
As a Families Out Loud Trustee, you will share our passion of supporting families affected by someone else’s drug or alcohol use. You will be committed to the Purpose, Vision and Values of Families Out Loud, working with the board to deliver the charity’s 5-year strategic plan. We’re committed to helping clients rebuild their lives, and to reducing stigma so they can feel confident to speak freely about their own experiences. As a Trustee, you will support this mission by reviewing the work we do on a regular basis, understanding that everything we do is for the public benefit, and within the charity’s purpose. You will work collaboratively with the other Trustees to effectively manage resources, and to ensure compliance with charity law and other legal requiremets.
This is a voluntary position, mainly working from home. You will be required to attend monthly Trustee meetings which are currently held virtually. Occasionally you may be required to attend in-person meetings in different locations across Wiltshire.
What are we looking?
For this position, we’re looking for someone based near Salisbury who can help us facilitate growth in our local area. Ideally, you’ll have a deep understanding of our community and its unique needs, bringing strong connections within the area. You’ll support the charity to leverage local networks and form lasting relationships, secure funding, and ultimately enhance our charity’s mission. Your reputation and familiarity with the Salisbury area will help build trust and strengthen our charity’s impact on the community. You’ll need strong written and verbal communication skills, and will be able to work as part of a team to make collective decisions. You should be able to think analytically, with a problem-solving approach. Alongside this, due to the nature of the role, you should be able to manage your own time effectively and be well organised.

The Pelvic Radiation Disease Association (PRDA) is looking for a Chair of Trustees to provide strategic leadership for the charity, working in partnership with our Operations Manager and supported by a committed team of Trustees.
Who we are
Pelvic Radiation Disease (PRD) is a long-term side-effect (‘late effect’) of pelvic radiotherapy treatment affecting an estimated 100,000 people in the UK. People affected by PRD often have a complex set of symptoms affecting the bowel, bladder, sexual function or other functions for many years after radiotherapy, sometimes only appearing several years after radiotherapy treatment
PRDA is a small UK charity whose objectives are to see that the effects of PRD are minimised, that people affected by PRD are given the best possible care and treatment, and that PRD is accepted as a serious problem and given the attention it deserves.
Duties of the Chair
In addition to the duties of a Trustee, the Chair will:
- Provide strategic leadership to the charity and the Board, ensuring that PRDA achieves its mission.
- Work in partnership with the Operations Manager and team to achieve our mission.
- Lead the board in ensuring that it fulfils its responsibilities for the governance of the organisation.
- Optimise the relationship between the board and PRDA’s staff and volunteers.
- Plan and chair the board meetings and the AGM, with others as appropriate.
- Act as a spokesperson and figurehead for PRDA.
What PRDA is looking for
Each trustee must have:
- a commitment to the vision and aims of the Pelvic Radiation Disease Association
- willingness to meet the minimum time requirement
- integrity

- good, independent judgement
- an ability to think creatively

- an understanding and acceptance of the legal duties, responsibilities and liabilities of trusteeship

- Understanding of the impact of Pelvic Radiation Disease on people’s lives either through personal or professional connections, or be willing to learn about this;
- Prior experience of committee/trustee work;
- Knowledge of the type of work undertaken by PRDA (helpline, support groups, online support, health professional engagement, awareness-raising) and/or fundraising for a small charity, and
- Leadership skills.

ABOUT THE ROLE
The Marie Curie Companion Service is a professional service provided by trained volunteers who offer one-to-one companionship and support to people with a terminal illness and their families. The service would not be able to reach those most in need if it was not for the commitment and hard work of the volunteers delivering the service.
Companion volunteers provide companionship and emotional support, practical support, short breaks for carers and help with signposting for information and support. These sessions can take place both in person and over the phone.
WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING.
Your role will include some of, but not be restricted to, the following tasks:
- Carry out weekly visits with the person(s) you’re supporting, as agreed with the Volunteer Co-ordinator. This could be in a variety of settings, e.g. family home, a care home or in the community.
- Provide one-to-one companionship and support. For example:
- Offering a listening ear and spending time engaging in every-day conversation, activities or hobbies with the person you are supporting.
- Driving clients to pre-arranged health or social care (e.g. to medical appointments) or taking short trips out.
- Helping with small, daily tasks, e.g. making tea or accessing the internet.
- Allowing carers to have a short break.
- You may be supporting your client’s family or carers before or
during bereavement. This may involve offering emotional
support, signposting to relevant local support services or finding out
information as requested
(This is only an outline as support will vary according to individual needs. Companion
volunteers do not provide nursing or personal care, or offer counselling or advice)
- Keep your manager informed of any changes to the situation, or any significant happenings in connection to the person you’re supporting and/or their family, either in person or by phone
- Submit regular visit reports to your manager and update relevant computer systems as required
- Be reliable and committed to regularly spending time with someone and offering support
- Attend individual sessions with your Volunteer Co-ordinator, training and group events as required
- Represent the Marie Curie Helper service positively to those using the service

We’re looking for an IT professional to join our Board and provide thought-leadership on our digital and IT strategy, including guiding us through Cyber Essentials accreditation. If you can help us use technology to improve our local advice service, we would love to hear from you.
As our digital and IT expert, you will work alongside the Chair, Chief Executive and the external IT support company we use to:

Time commitment
Our trustees are expected to attend six board meetings each year. These normally take place on a Monday evening, at our office in Esher. Reading preparation for each board meeting will take around one-two hours. All Citizens Advice trustees are required to complete a small number of e-learning courses each year.
In addition, as the IT lead, you will need to have time to participate in various IT discussions with our management team and with the IT support company we use. This work may average around 1-2 hours a week.

Family Thing Dance is a small but growing charity that provides inclusive dance classes for people with learning differences and diverse abilities. We are looking for Trustees to join our Board to offer governance and support to grow the charity.
The dance base is commercial dance and hip-hop. Family Thing's mission is to provide opportunities for empowerment, support and a sense of belonging using dance as a vehicle to reach these aims.
Family Thing is passionate about providing these dance opportunities for everyone. There are many reasons why. Mencap lists the main benefits of taking part in leisure activities as improving physical and mental health, personal social skills, self-worth and confidence, and social attitudes (Mencap, 2019). Yet despite these widely understood benefits, only 16.8% of people with a learning disability take part in a sport or physical activities at least once a week, compared with 39.9% of the general population (Sport England, 2018). Additionally, there is a great deal of evidence that inactivity is a major contributing factor of ill health in people with learning disabilities. Only 9% of participants in a 2016 review met the minimum recommended guidelines for physical activity (Dairo et al, 2016).
We know that organisations like Family Thing play a role in the well-being of people with learning disabilities by providing activities that promote good physical health as well as positive psychological and social stimulation, and offers a way to overcome situations such as loneliness and anxiety. We know that a positive impact of Family Thing is the increase in social engagement and improvements in physical and mental well-being for those who participate in our classes.
Activities: Family Thing offers free or subsidised, supportive, fun and creative dance classes to diverse groups of children, young people and adults. During each session, dancers are invited to create their own ‘dance hero persona’, and have opportunities to express themselves as individuals with the support of the group. There is a focus on strengthening their sense of community through the concept of “supporting your crew”. As defined by those who attend the groups, the overall aim is to create a “big family” that’ll dance altogether basically!
What are we looking for?
At this particular time we are keen to find people with a financial services background and someone who may be willing to take on the role of Treasurer in due course and/or someone with marketing skills, including digital marketing.
Experience
- Experience of the dance community (desirable but not essential)
- An understanding of equality, diversity and inclusion and a desire to support those with learning differences and diverse abilities
- Leadership experience (desirable but not essential)
- Experience of delivering strategic organisational change (desirable but not essential)
It is not necessary to have previous board experience as training and support can be given

M4RD is a UK charity that is advancing rare disease training for medical professionals. The aim of our work is to help reduce diagnostic delay and improve patient experience for those impacted by rare conditions.

Overview of the Branch Trustee opportunity

We are recruiting for a complementary mix of skills within our trustee board. Whilst a passion for animals is crucial, we are also looking for a diversity of skills such as general business management , finance, marketing, Legal, IT, HR and H&S etc, if this is you, we would love to hear from you.
Your role as a Trustee will require working in collaboration with your fellow trustees, staff and volunteers to ensure our branch continues to deliver our important animal welfare work.
As a minimum, trustees would normally be expected to attend a bi-monthly committee meeting lasting around 2 to 3 hours (virtual meetings are an option). However, the commitment may vary depending on your availability, and if you decide to take on additional duties.
Trustee do not need to live within the branch boundaries but occasional travel to Branch sites may be required from time to time.

About the RSPCA Preston & District Branch
Over 80% of the animal welfare work of the RSPCA is carried out through local Branches which are run by staff and volunteers, supported by the RSPCA National Society.
Preston & District Branch has been affiliated with the National RSPCA for 150 years!
A separately registered charity looking after animals in the local area and engaging with the local community.
Our mission is to seek out safe homes for abandoned, neglected or abused animals who are nursed back to health, rehabilitated and found forever loving homes.
Preston & District Branch is part of a network of 140 branches, and 1 of only 8 in the North of England with an animal centre.
The rehoming centre is within the Preston area (close to JCN 31 of the M6).
RSPCA Preston & District Branch is a well established Branch with approximately 20 members of staff and 75 volunteers across 4 locations and raises all its funds locally through supporters and other income streams.
To continue helping animals in need the Branch also operates 3 charity shops in Longridge, Chorley and Penwortham (within our specified branch area) which bring in a regular income to keep our animal centre open.
Primary responsibilities of the Branch Trustee
- Appreciate and support the aims and policies of the RSPCA.
- Work in conjunction with fellow trustees and branch officers and jointly act in making decisions for the best interest of the branch and the RSPCA.
- In conjunction with your fellow trustees, ensure the proper management and control of all activities and decisions relating to any premises held or staff employed by the branch if applicable.
- Work with national RSPCA staff to ensure that the branch meets all minimum animal welfare standards (MAWS).
- In conjunction with your fellow trustees and Branch Partnership Manager write, adopt, monitor, and review a development plan setting out the short and long term aims of your branch.
- Actively participate in branch committee meetings and to attend the branch annual general meeting.
- Be aware of the outcome of regional board meetings and support local initiatives.
- Actively promote and advertise the society in an ongoing programme to recruit new branch trustees and volunteers and welcome new members.
What we are looking for in a volunteer:
- Ideally you would have some level of knowledge in the following areas-
- Financial, Human Resources, Health & Safety backgrounds or legal; Marketing communication including social media, PR, website;
- Fundraising including corporate fundraising, trust fund and grant applications;
- Local community and supporter relationships; Project management, business development
- Awareness of employment and/or charity legislation
- General management or business administration
These all can be useful to help ensure we have a sound and robust business model and long term strategic development plan, however, they are not essential.
We are looking for people who are creative, innovative, who have experience of or are part of groups and communities we want to attract, who can bring new ideas, different experiences and fresh perspectives to the board and to help put those ideas into action.

Ultimately we are looking for someone who is committed to the RSPCA’s charitable objectives and shares our passion for animal welfare.
You will need to be able to work with people and have good interpersonal skills. You do not need to be an expert although commitment, common sense, and the ability to be objective are vital.

Practical considerations
- Please also note that to become a Trustee, you will need to be aged 18 or over and a member of our branch for three months before you are eligible to be elected at our AGM.
- Trustees are elected for a 12-month term each year.
- Reasonable expenses will be reimbursed.
- Trustees must sign a Trustee Declaration of Willingness to Act to clarify that they are not disqualified from being a trustee and read the Charity Commission’s guidance for individuals who cannot be a trustee or senior manager of a charity.
- References will also be required.

As a Trustee you must:
- Always act in the best interests of GMWSA exercising the same duty of care that a prudent person of business would in looking after the affairs of someone for whom they have responsibility.

Duties of a Trustee Board Member:
- Ensure that GMWSA complies with charity law, company law and any other relevant legislation or regulations
- Ensure that GMWSA pursues its objectives as defined in the Strategy and Business plans
- Ensure that GMWSA applies its resources wisely and applies ‘best value’ principles
- Contribute actively to the Board of Trustees' role in giving firm strategic direction to the CEO in setting overall policy, defining goals and setting targets and evaluating performance against agreed targets
- Contribute actively to Board Meetings and other appropriate events and activities
- Safeguard the reputation and values of GMWSA
- Ensure the financial stability of GMWSA
- Ensure that the accounts are audited in the manner prescribed by Charity Commission regulations, and any recommendations of the auditors implemented
- Ensure that GMWSA has an appropriate reserves policy
- Be assured that the financial resources of GMWSA meet its present and future needs
In addition to the above statutory duties, each Trustee should use any specific skills, knowledge or experience they have to help the Board of Trustees reach sound decisions. This may involve leading discussions, focusing on key issues, scrutinising board papers, providing advice and guidance on new initiatives, evaluation or other issues in which the Trustee has special expertise.
Person Specification-
Each Trustee must:
- Have commitment to the mission and values of GMWSA
- Show willingness to devote the necessary time and effort
- Act with integrity and have a willingness to speak their mind
- Employ a strategic vision
- Have an understanding and acceptance of the legal duties, responsibilities and liabilities of Trusteeship
- Have the ability to work effectively as a member of a team and to take decisions for the good of GMWSA.
Minimum time commitment:
- Trustees are expected to attend an induction meeting with the Chair of the Board and the CEO prior to attendance at their first Board meeting.
- Trustees are expected to attend all Board meetings, which are 6 time per year, online and in person.
